Saturday 11th September 2010 ERE ROVERS M N A TR V N W TO YEOVIL Kick off: 3.00pm In August 2009, Terry Skiverton got his first full season in management under way with a 2-0 victory against John Barnes Tranmere Rovers. The manager in the opposition dugout may well have changed, but Yeovil will be hoping for a similar result when the men from the Wirral come to town. A Dean Bowditch header and a penalty from Gavin Tomlin were enough to secure the three points for the Glovers on a warm Somerset day on that occasion, but Yeovil could face a much sterner test this time around. Under the leadership of former physio Les Parry, Rovers staged a late fightback to secure their League One future last season, and will be looking for a more comfortable time this season. These two sides have often proven to be closely matches over the past few years, and that looks set to continue this time around. With both sides looking to make their mark early in the League One table, this is a match which both sides will be highlighting as a ‘can win’ game, which should make for an exciting match between two sides going for the three points. Saturday 18th September 2010 LOUNGE K C TO S C LE A T H IG COMEDY N Starts: 8.30pm Huish Park Leisure and Just fair laughs have teamed up to bring you a night of comedy as the comedy all stars visit in the first of a trio of comedy nights this year. Performing stand-up between some genre-defying songs, the Chortle Awards Best Newcomer nominee interweaves these two strands of his comedy. ‘Gareth Richards comes across as an effortlessly assured act…exceptionally inspired and truly memorable.’ - Chortle ‘You are thrilled to be made part of this fantastic comedy... They can call me a witch again any time for theirs is the best show I have seen on the Free Fringe.’ - Three Weeks ‘The first act to raise some belly laughs was Gareth Richards, whose quick-fire gags really picked up the pace. Saturday 25th September 2010 XETER CITY YEOVIL TOWN V E Kick off: 3.00pm Last season, Yeovil Town took on Exeter for the first time ever in League competition. Both matches proved to be very tight, tense affairs with a 1-1 draw in Devon being followed by a 2-1 success for Yeovil at Huish Park. This victory proved to be of vital importance to Terry Skivertons men as they not only secured three points which put them a step closer to safety, but dented the visitors hopes of League One survival. Former Yeovil midfielder Paul Tisdale, now in change of Exeter, managed to keep the Grecians in the League, and has now built a side capable of pushing up the table. With derbies always proving to be tight, exciting occasions, the next instalment of the Yeovil v Exeter story should be one to savour. Tuesday 28th September 2010 UTHAMPTON O S V N W TO IL V O YE Kick off: 7.45pm Just a few years ago, Southampton were playing their football alongside some of the biggest clubs in world football. Financial problems off the pitch and poor performances on it have seen them fall from grace, though, and they now face their second season in League One. Things could be looking up for the men from St Marys, however, with top scorer Rickie Lambert in their ranks, they will fancy their chances of securing promotion this season. They will however face many tough tests along the way and as they showed last season, Yeovil are more than capable of providing just that. Last season it took a 94th minute winner for Alan Pardews men to secure a 1-0 victory at Huish Park. The Glovers will be looking to better that result this season, and prove that despite the different in stature of the two clubs, they deserve to be playing alongside clubs such as Southampton. It promises to be a dramatic, hard fought evening at Huish Park, as Yeovil look to prove a point against one of the bookies title favourites. Thursday 14th October 2010 C STOCK LOUNGE LE A N O D IN K E EV ST ER AFTER DINNER SPEAK Starts: 7.30pm £35 per ticket or table of 8 for £240. Includes a 3 course meal One of the genuine “characters” of football, Steve Kindon is a great raconteur whose contribution to any dinner is guaranteed to have the audience rolling with laughter. Stephen Michael “Steve” Kindon (born December 17, 1950 in Warrington) was a former professional footballer who played mainly on the left wing where his speed was an asset, but also played at centre forward. After starring in Burnley’s FA Youth Cup run of 1967-68, Steve Kindon became the first member of the Clarets victorious Youth Cup side to establish himself in the First Division. He scored on his Turf Moor debut in a 3-1 victory over West Ham Utd, and after winning Youth international honours, he was everpresent in Burnley’s First Division side of 1969-70, top-scoring with 17 goals. After the Lancashire club were relegated in 1971, he joined Wolves for a fee of £100,000 in the summer of 1972 and scored on his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Utd on the opening day of the 1972-73 season. However, it took him a while to settle down in the Midlands and he only appeared briefly in the club’s successful League Cup run in 1973-74, missing out on the final when Wolves beat Man City 2-1. Though the club were relegated at the end of the 1975-76 season, they bounced straight back as Second Division Champions the following season with Kindon playing his part. He had scored 31 goals in 167 games for Wolves when he returned to Burnley in November 1977 for £80,000. He spent two more seasons at Turf Moor taking his goal tally to 58 in 225 games before joining Huddersfield Town where he was part of a minor piece of football history, being one of three goalkeepers used in an FA Cup Tie v Shrewsbury Town in 1981. Regular goalkeeper Andy Rankin was injured and Steve took his place, only to be injured himself, his place in turn being taken by Mark Lillis. Each of them conceded a goal, and this remains an English record for the number of keepers used in one game. Injury then ended his career in 1982. Steve was an England Youth, Under-23 and “B” international. Nowadays, “Kindo” - as he is affectionately known - prefers to take a more leisurely pace, though travelling the length and breadth of the country where his humorous reminiscences always leave the audience wanting more. 10 WWW.YTFC.NET Saturday 16th October 2010 EDNESDAY W LD IE FF E H S V N YEOVIL TOW Kick off: 3.00pm Following in the footsteps of the likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday have become the next former Premier League side to find themselves in League One. Relegated after a final day defeat against Crystal Palace, it has been a tough few months for supporters of The Owls, who have also seen their club beset by financial problems. The Yorkshire men will be looking to bounce straight back, however, but are likely to find life tough at this level. They are likely to find out exactly how tough League One can be when they make the trip to Huish Park to take on Yeovil Town. Famed for raising their game against the so-called ‘big teams’, Terry Skiverton will be confident that his new crop of players can do just that against a Wednesday side packed full of higher League experience. It will be an excellent test for the Glovers, and a chance to record another famous Huish Park win. Saturday 23rd October 2010 TOCK LOUNGE CS COMEDY NIGHT - ALE Starts: 8.30pm Huish Park Leisure and Just fair laughs team up again to bring you the second in a trio of comedy nights, as the comedy all stars visit for the second comedy night of the year. Oakley is an accomplished guitarist, drummer and harmonica player, but his biggest talent is his relentless bonhomie, making for an engagingly inane performance.’ - Chortle Andy Watson Abuzz with nervy energy, Andy has an irresistible, infectious style that has the audience rapt from the start. ‘he grasped the crowd's attention and left them in hysterics.’ - City Life Paul Kerensa ITV’s ‘Take The Mike’ Award Winner ‘f**king funny’ - Ricky Gervais ‘Paul’s material is cleverly written and at times borders on the ingenious... Some near to the knuckle material that belies his laidback manner’ - Grinreaper.co.uk Ben Vandervelde (MC) ‘left the audience beaming from ear to ear with satirical quips & hilariously sinister tales’ - BBC3 ‘exquisite comic timing... wonderfully clownish physical comedy’ - British Theatre Guide Tickets Only £8 (pre-booked) £10 on the door Huish Park, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 8YF WWW.YTFC.NET 12 Saturday 23rd October 2010 ALMOST PINK - THE VENUE Starts: 8.30pm The woman behind ‘Almost Pink’ is Sheffield born singer songwriter Kyla. WWW.YTFC.NET 13 14 WWW.YTFC.NET Saturday 30th October 2010 ON TOWN D IN W S V N W TO YEOVIL Kick off: 3.00pm Last season, Swindon Town proved themselves to be the surprise package in League One reaching the League One Play-Off Final at Webbley. Along the way Danny Wilsons side did the double over Yeovil. The Glovers were defeated 1-0 at Huish Park after a Terrell Forbes own goal, while Gavin Tomlins goal proved scant consolation for a 3-1 defeat at the County Ground. This season, however, sees Swindon face the tough challenge of following up such a successful season and they are likely to find the going much more difficult. Terry Skiverton is one man who knows how hard it can be the season after losing a Play-Off Final, as he was part of the Yeovil squad who faced a relegation scrap just 12 months after losing to Blackpool at Wembley in 2007. Yeovil have every reason to believe, therefore, that they can gain some revenge for last seasons results, and they will be looking to do just that as they host the Robins at Huish Park. Swindon will prove a tough test for a new look Yeovil side keen to prove themselves as the surprise package this coming season. The opposition, no matter where they are from will be after the same glory that Yeovil Town have experienced in the past in the FA Cup and will therefore provide a fantastic occasion full of cup heroes. Saturday 13th November 2010 REDBRIDGE D N A M A H N E G A D YEOVIL TOWN V Kick off: 3.00pm Dagenham & Redbridge will be a familiar name to many Yeovil fans, as the two sides did battle during both clubs non-league days. Now the sides meet at a much higher level, and both still with very lofty dreams. Yeovil were promoted from the Conference in 2003, while the Daggers were left to fight an ultimately unsuccessful battle in the play-offs. The Glovers pushed on to League One two years later, while Dagenham finally made it in to League football themselves. This season, following a dramatic Play-Off Final victory against Rotherham United, the Londoners will once again line up in a league alongside the Glovers, and that promises to produce some more memorable meetings between the sides. There has been no lack of goals in matches between these sides before, with a 3-3 draw at Huish Park in 2002 and a 4-0 Yeovil win in Essex in 2003 being the highlights. With both squads now hosting many young, attacking players, there is every chance that this League One encounter see another high scoring meeting. Saturday 4th December 2010 OUGH UNITED R O B R TE E P V N W YEOVIL TO Kick off: 3.00pm In 2003, then-Yeovil captain Terry Skiverton stood alongside his manager Gary Johnson and lifted the Conference title trophy above their heads to bring to realisation a 108 year dream for the club. Now the two are set to go head to head in the dugouts as Johnson brings his Peterborough side to Huish Park. The Posh made a meteoric rise from League Two to the Championship, but found life in the second tier too big an ask last season. Relegation sees them once again facing a season in League One, but they will be confident they have the man at the helm to steer them back in the right direction. The last time these sides met, however, Yeovil proved they can be more than a match for them. Goals from Paul Warne, Aaron Brown and Shaun MacDonald gave the Glovers a 3-1 win at London Road, and revenge for a 1-0 Huish Park defeat earlier in the season. With the master taking on the apprentice, this match should be a fascinating meeting of managerial minds, and Yeovil will be hoping it is Terry Skiverton who comes out on top, and sees his side pick up a crucial victory. Last season, a first half brace from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Ryan Mason set Yeovil on their way to a 3-1 victory, and Terry Skiverton will be hoping for more of the same this time around. However, an Adam Clayton goal won the match for Carlisle in the return game so it will be no easy task as the visitors look to repeat what they produced on that Tuesday night at Brunton Park. With Ryan Mason having now departed Huish Park, Skiverton will be looking for someone else to step in to those shoes and help fire his side to victory in Yeovils final pre-Christmas match. Friday 26th December 2010 RENTFORD YEOVIL TOWN V B Kick off: 3.00pm One of the most impressive victories last season came against Brentford, where goals from Craig Alcock and Andy Welsh secured a 2-0 win. It is a result which Terry Skiverton will be hoping his new look team can repeat in the 2010-11 season, but with matches between the sides usually being tight, hard fought affairs, it will be another tough test for the Glovers. With many people tipping these two sides to be fighting it out for positions come the business end of the season, this is an opportunity to gain an advantage on their opposition which neither side will want to miss.
