Theatre is an integral part of our arts scene and vital to strengthening our province’s creative culture. Now in its 28th year, the Toronto Fringe Festival has established itself as a place for emerging and established artists to have the opportunity to produce their work with artistic freedom, while also engaging members of the community by making the productions as affordable and accessible as possible. I applaud the staff and volunteers with the Toronto Fringe Festival for supporting the ongoing growth and development of independent theatre — and for providing companies with the opportunity to hone their craft and to see their productions achieve new levels of acclaim. Please accept my best wishes for a successful and enjoyable festival — an event that does much to enhance our province’s reputation as centre of culture and artistic innovation. It is my pleasure to extend greetings and a warm welcome to everyone attending the 2016 Fringe Festival presented by The Toronto Fringe Festival. The performing arts are integral to the social and economic fabric of our city and are a platform that enriches and enhances the lives of many who love this genre of art. Now in its 28th year, the Fringe Festival will feature more than 150 indie productions in over 30 venues throughout the downtown core. The Fringe Festival provides an opportunity to celebrate under-represented voices and those on the margins of the performing arts scene. I wish to welcome everyone to our city and encourage you to enjoy Toronto at this time of year as well as learn about our vibrant neighbourhoods. On behalf of Toronto City Council, I thank the organizers of this event and offer my best wishes for a memorable festival and continued success. Yours truly, In a world of global chaos, we need the happy chaos of the Fringe, to tie us to our community and remind us that everything is all right in the world. In November 2016, the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals plays host to the Fringe World Congress in Montreal. This event, created by the Edinburgh Fringe, is a meeting for Fringe producers from around the world. Typically held in Edinburgh, as part of the Edinburgh Fringe, this year’s event comes to Canada to see what makes us tick. The Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals has created a unique but simple recipe for Fringe success – even the Mother of all Fringe Festivals, Edinburgh, wants to know what’s in the special sauce. If you’re a regular participant at a CAFF Festival in Canada or the U.S., you know that we don’t keep our ingredients secret: we pull the artists out of a hat, we give them all the money (except taxes and fees), we keep the tickets cheap and we tie the whole thing up in a great big party! Easy. We are looking forward to sharing with the world and showing off for Mama Fringe! Think global, Fringe local. Fringefully yours, Kathleen Wynne Premier 4 BUY TICKETS AT FRINGETORONTO.COM AND 416.966.1062 David Jordan President of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals WELCOME WELCOME TO THE 28TH ANNUAL TORONTO FRINGE FESTIVAL!
