All persons attending the sale under the conduct of the Auctioneers shall be deemed to be on the land and premises entirely at their own risk and shall have no claim against the Auctioneers in respect of cancellation/ postponement of a sale or any loss, accident or injury, however occasioned. 2. All bids made should be treated as offers made upon these conditions of sale and all persons present are admitted to attend a sale on the basis that they have notice of these conditions. All persons intending to bid must register at the registration desk before the sale starts. 3. The buyer shall be the person making the highest bid which is acceptable to the Auctioneers as signified by the fall of the hammer. In the case of a dispute, it shall be settled by the Auctioneers, whose decision shall be final. 4. The Auctioneers have sole discretion (a) to refuse any bid, (b) to advance the bidding as they may decide, (c) to withdraw or divide any Lot or combine one Lot with another, (d) to exclude any person from the auction room. 5. Lots put up for sale are subject (a) to any reserve imposed by the seller, and (b) the right of the Auctioneers to bid on behalf of the seller up to the amount of the reserve, but the seller shall not bid personally on any of his own Lots. 6. The Buyer shall during or at the end of the sale, pay the full purchase price plus 10% Buyers Premium either in cash or by cheque (in all cases by a valid cheque card, unless prior arrangement has been made). Cheques in excess of recognised limits will not be accepted from Buyers unknown to the Auctioneers, unless prior arrangements have been made with them, or Bank or other suitable references have been supplied. Noncompliance with this condition may delay the release of lots pending the clearance of cheques. 7. The Auctioneers will at the request of the Buyer store larger items at their premises at the Buyer’s risk. Items can be collected by prior arrangement. 8. The Auctioneers will execute commission bids, written or telephoned, free of charge. Postal bidders should use the form at the back of this catalogue. Commission bids will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to any reserve and other postal bids or bids in the room. The auctioneers shall not, however, be responsible for any neglect or default in executing or failing to execute any commission bid. 9. Subject to condition 12, (a) Lots are sold with all faults and imperfections and neither the Seller nor the Auctioneer is responsible for any defects whatsoever; (b) no warranty is given or authorised to be given by the Seller or the Auctioneer with regard to any Lot other than that the Seller had the right to sell it; (c) any express or implied conditions or warranties, whether relating to description or quality, are hereby excluded. 10. Ample opportunity is given for viewing and the Buyer by making a bid, acknowledges that he has satisfied himself fully before bidding, by inspection or otherwise, as to its condition. This includes the physical and the description including, but not restricted to, whether the Lot is damaged or has been repaired. 11. The Auctioneers undertake that care has been taken to see that the catalogue descriptions, including rarity, origin and condition, are accurate and reliable, taking into account all the information available when the catalogue was prepared, but these are necessarily matters of opinion only and shall not be taken to be statements of fact. 12. Notwithstanding Conditions 9, 10 and 11, if the Auctioneers receive notice in writing from the Buyer within 7 days of the sale that in his opinion a Lot is a forgery, and on giving such notification the Lot in question is returned to the Auctioneers at their premises, in the same condition as when bought, then if on considering such evidence as the Buyer supplies to prove his assertion, the Auctioneers decide that the Lot is a forgery the sale of the Lot will be rescinded and the purchase price repaid to the Buyer. 13. The Buyer shall not become the owner of any Lot, and the Auctioneers shall have a lien thereon, until the Buyer has discharged the purchase price, plus the 10% Buyers Premium charge. 14. If the Buyer fails to pay for or remove any Lot bought by him or in any other material respect fails to comply with these Conditions, the Auctioneers shall have the right (a) to resell the Lot by public auction or otherwise without notice to the Buyer, and if any deficiency arises on such resale after deducting the full costs and expenses of the Auctioneers, the Buyer shall be responsible to the Seller and Auctioneers (but any surplus to be the Seller’s) or alternatively, (b) to store the Lot at the premises of the Auctioneers or elsewhere and to release the Lot to the Buyer only after payment in full of all reasonable storage and removal expenses incurred (in addition to the purchase price). 15. Persons handling Lots do so at their own risk and shall make good all loss or damage however sustained, such estimate of cost to be assessed by the Auctioneers whose decision shall be final. Please visit our NEW website - www.crewerailwayana.co.uk MAIN AUCTION The main Auction will be in the Exhibition Hall and viewing will be from 7.30 a.m. The sale will start at 10.30 a.m. There will be a lunch break at Lot 300 for 30 minutes. Car parking on the site is restricted but there are a number of car parks within a short walking distance of the Centre. ALPHA LOTS There will be a large Alpha lot section on the day. This will be held in the Viewing Room at the Crewe North Signal Box. Viewing for this sale will be from 8.00 a.m. till 11.30 a.m. Bids to be in by 11.30 a.m. Lots will be sold to the highest bidder as determined by the Auctioneers on receipt of the special “Alpha Lot Bidding Slips” handed in by 11.00 a.m. on the day. The results of this Auction will be available at 2.00 p.m. and an announcement will be made in the Main Hall. All lots must be removed by 3.30 p.m. unless prior arrangements are made. We regret that Alpha lots are not available to poster bidders. BUYERS PREMIUM Please note there is a 10% Buyers Premium to be added to the Hammer Price in the main auction and the highest bid price in the Alpha Lot Auction. FREE BUS There will be a Free Vintage Routemaster Bus running to and from Crewe Railway Station and the Heritage Centre starting from 7.40am approx every 20 minutes for the duration of the day. The bus will break for lunch approx 40 mins at 12.40 to 1.10. REFRESHMENTS There will be Homemade refreshments available all day in the North Signal Box. CAR PARKING The parking at the Heritage Centre will be for staff, Disabled Badge Holders and Trade Stands only on the day. Size 20 ¼” x 5 ¼”. 3 A cast iron Shedplate 70G Newport (Isle of Wight) September 1954 to November 1957. The plate is in totally ex loco condition. 4 A cast iron Wagonplate “FOR REPAIRS ADVISE BOLTON RAILWAY WAGON CO. LD”. The plate is in face restored only condition. 5 A London & North Eastern Railway enamel Station Lamp Tablet “ST. BOSWELLS” f/f rectangular in shape, brown on cream with a couple of face chips repaired but otherwise in very good condition. A Station on the former Waverley route. Size 16” x 5”. 6 A brass Locomotive Worksplate “NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD GLASGOW No.27435 – 1956” ex BR 0-4-0 Diesel Hydraulic, built February 1956 as 11707 later becoming D2707. Depots include St. Margaret’s Edinburgh & then Dunfermline, it was withdrawn in March 1967 and cut up by the Slag Reduction Co. Iokles Aug 1967. Lightly polished otherwise in ex loco condition. 7 A Great Western Railway official Jigsaw “THE NIGHT MAIL” in very good condition, complete with box and made up on a board to view. 8 A framed & glazed Carriage Print “THE FORTH BRIDGE” by Kenneth Steele. In good condition with original style frame. 9 A North British Railway Stephens pattern Signal Finial. These are a smaller version of the Caledonian type and much rarer. In very good restored condition. 10 A Lion & Wheel Presentation Piece made at Crewe Works mounted on a circular wooden board in Rail Blue with Silver colour Lion & Wheel. Size approx 18” x 18”. An attractive item! 10A A Great western Railway brass Lever Lead “No.88 FROM DOWN MAIN TO L&N.W LOOP START’G 64, 65”. In good ex box condition. 11 An enamel Advertising sign “BARRS’ TEA ASK YOUR GROCER FOR MOST DELICIOUS IN ENGLAND” brown/blue on white with some edge repairs otherwise good deep colour & shine. The plate is in totally ex loco condition. 14 A Great Central Railway Station Platform Lamp Post Top with two glass name panels “ELSHAM” in good restored condition. A location on the GCR line between Barnetby & Appleby. 15 A BR(S) enamel Totem “BRACKNELL” f/f with one chip to the ‘C’ touched in otherwise good deep colour & shine. A Station on the LSWR route between Staines ascot and Reading. 15A An original mounted Coat Of Arms Transfer “North Staffordshire Railway Company” in good condition. Size 18” x 18”. 16 A London & North Western Railway Fletchers Permissive Block Instrument, ivorine plated “GOODS LINES” and “BLACK BROOK JCN”. In very good ex box condition. 17 An alloy Key Token “ANDOVERSFORD JUNCTION – FOSSE CROSS”. A section on the M&SWJ Railway line between Andoversford and Swindon Town. In very good ex box condition. 18 A BR(E) enamel Station sign “TO THE TRAINS” with left facing arrow. A little edge rusting otherwise in excellent condition with good deep colour & shine. Size 24” x 24”. 19 A cast iron sign “GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY NOTICE NO UNAUTHORISED PERSON ALLOWED IN THIS BOX BY ORDER” in unrestored ex box condition, the back marked ‘Ex Dawlish Signalbox’. 20 An original mounted Coat Of Arms Transfer “LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY” in superb condition. Size 20 ½” x 13”. 21 A BR(M) enamel Station sign “PASSENGERS MUST CROSS THE LINE BY THE BRIDGE” f/f in very good condition. Size 24” x 18”. 22 A brass electric Headlamp from a Southern Railway Bullied Pacific Locomotive, complete with it’s electrical fittings and switch, mounting bracket and bulls eye lens. In very good condition. This was acquired from a loco on its way to Barry Scrap Yard! 5 Railway October 2014.indd 5 24/09/2014 22:16:32 23 A Locomotive Smokebox plate “40008” ex LMS Fowler 2-6-2 Tank new Derby Works April 1930 as LMS 15507 and BR No.40008 in December 1949. The Locomotive was allocated to Shrewsbury and Chester and finally ending it’s days at Llandudno Junction being withdrawn there in November 1959 and cut up at Crewe works in February 1960. The plate is in ex loco condition. 24 A (Hull & Barnsley Railway) cast iron Gate Notice “SHUT THIS GATE”. The plate has been attractively restored on the front the back is in ex gate condition. A Scarce sign! 25 A pair of G Scale Garden Railway Steam Locomotives, Blue 0-4-0 and a black 0-6-0. Both in good, little used condition. 25A A London & South Western Railway Cart Saddle Horse Brass “L&SWR” in good condition with all fixing pins to the rear. 26 A brass Locomotive Worksplate “ANDREW BARCLAY SONS & CO. LIMITED CALEDONIA WORKS KILMARNOCK No.2012 - 1935” ex 0-6-0 ST named Jubilee new to Earl of Dudley’s Round Oak Works. The plate is in face restored only condition. 27 A Waterlow Station Ticket Dating Machine, the top brass plate “WATERLOW & SONS LIMITED MANUFACTURERS LONDON No. “ together with a box of Type which also bears a brass Waterlows plate. Both are in very good condition. 28 A Great Western Railway steel Key Token “LLANYMYNECH – FOUR CROSSES” together with it’s alloy Token Hoop which is marked “G.W.R. 1010”. Both items are in good unrestored condition. 29 A cast iron Bridgeplate (Great Central Railway) “GCR 547” in totally unrestored condition. 30 A small wooden, double sided Carriage Board “CHESTER” on one side with “WREXHAM” on the other side. In maroon & straw and in good ex service condition. Size 32” x 3 ¼”. 31 A Pictorial enamel Advertising sign “ROSS’S IDEAL MILK JUSTICE TO BOTH” with Cow, Bottle of Milk and a Baby. In brown on white with some touched in edge rusting otherwise in excellent condition. Size 21 ½” x 15 ¼”. 32 A London & North Western Railway Handlamp clearly stamped “LNWR P.WAY DEPT LANCASTER No.24947”. In good restored condition. 33 A cast iron Shedplate 72B Salisbury 1950 to December 1962. From the Cambrian Coast line between Dovey Junction and Towyn. 35A An LMS Seahorse pattern china Milk Jug with blue Seahorse to the side and base marked “LM&S HOTELS ROYAL CAULDON ENGLAND”. This pattern was used at the companies Hotels at Kyle & Morecambe. In very good condition. 36 A Great Western Railway wooden cased, lower quadrant Shelf mounted Signal Repeater, ivorine plated no. “27” in good ex box condition. 37 A cast iron Goods Shed Crane plate “L&NW & L&Y 2050”. In good unrestored condition. 38 An LMS Fowler pattern brass Locomotive Whistle & Valve, mounted on a wooden base. In very good polished condition. 39 A Caledonian Railway Stevens pattern Signal Finial in good unrestored condition. 40 A Locomotive Smokebox plate “8408” ex BR (WR) 94xx Hawksworth 0-6-0 Panier Tank new from Bagnalls Stafford in January 1950. it was first allocated to Danygraig then spent it’s life at Swansea East Dock and was withdrawn at Swindon Works in October 1959, it was then sent to Truro as a Stationary Boiler until July 1964 when it was despatched to Cohen’s at Swansea and cut up during August 1964. The plate is in restored condition. 41 An enamel Pictorial Advertising sign “MILLERS GREEN LABEL TEA EVERY GENUINE PACKET BEARS THESE SIGNATURES” etc. In green on white/maroon/black with some edge rusting otherwise in good condition. Size 11 ½” x 8 ½”. 42 A London Midland & Scottish Railway cast iron Kettle clearly embossed “L.M.S.” and engraved with makers name “SWAIN” and in good restored condition. 43 A cast iron Shedplate 34E Neasden 1950 to February 1958 then New England July 1958 to February 1965. The plate is in totally ex loco condition. 44 A (London & North Western Railway) cast iron Signalbox Backboard plate “FAST TO MOLD HOME” from one of the Chester area Signalboxes. Size 18” x 6”. 46 An alloy Diesel Worksplate “BRITISH RAILWAYS CREWE BUILT 1961 POWER EQUIPMENT BY SULZER AND CROMPTON PARKINSON LTD” from a Peak Class 45 Locomotive. In unrestored ex loco Rail Blue paint. 47 A Webb & Thompson large Staff “WEXFORD NTH – ENNISCORTHY” with Annett’s Key. In Good ex service condition. A section on the Dublin, Wicklow & Wexford Line and still open today. 48 A Great Western Railway brass Pressure Gauge with brass engraved face “GWR”. The case is also marked “GWR” and dated “16/2/28”. In very good polished condition. 49 A cast iron sign “TAFF VALE RAILWAY” Bridge weight Restriction Notice dated “March 1st 1881”. This sign is in unrestored condition with some lettering picked out. 50 A Great Western Railway cast iron Cabside “6621” ex GWR Collett 0602 Tank new Swindon works January 1928 to Cathay’s, it spent many years at Aberbeeg and was withdrawn at Radyr in December 1964. It was sent to Woodams, Barry and cut up here in March 1965. The plate is in unrestored condition. 50A A Midland Railway silver plated Marrow Scoop “ADELPHI HOTEL LIVERPOOL” by “Elkington & Co. In very good condition. A Scarce Survivor! 51 A BR(M) enamel Station sign “TICKETS PARCELS AND LEFT LUGGAGE” with right facing arrow, double sided with hanging hooks. Some small face chips otherwise good deep colour & shine. Ex Nantwich Station. Size 24” x 18”. 52 An LMS (LNWR pattern) small Inspectors Handlamp, the side clearly embossed “L.M.S.”. In very good unrestored condition. 53 A cast iron Shedplate 70E Reading SR 1950 to December 1962. The plate is in totally ex loco condition. 54 A BR(M) enamel Station sign “PLEASE SHOW TICKETS” f/f with some minor chipping repaired, otherwise in good condition. 55 A brass Locomotive Worksplate “THE VULCAN FOUNDRY No.5502 – 1947 LIMITED NEWTON-LEWILLOWS LANCASHIRE” ex LNER Thompson 4-6-0 B1 Class new as LNER 1144 to Stratford and later Immingham, renumbered to 61144 in February 1949. It was withdrawn at Immingham in April 1964 and was cut up in October 1965. In good ex service condition. 56 A Great Western Railway Single Spagnoletti Receiving Block Instrument, the top clearly numbered “356” in very good ex box condition. 57 A Great Western Railway cast iron Doorplate “WAITING ROOM” in post grouping style with flat border. In very good unrestored chocolate & cream paintwork. Size 24” x 3 ½”. 58 An early wooden Signalbox Telephone with separate mouth piece and trumpet ear piece, also brass bell. In very good ex box condition. 59 A cast iron sign “CAMBRIAN RAILWAY NOTICE ANY PERSONS FOUND TRESPASSING ON THIS RAILWAY WILL BE PROSECUTED BY ORDER”. The back is marked “Ellesmere”, a Station on the Whitchurch to Oswestry line. In totally unrestored condition. 60 A Locomotive Smokebox plate “6107” GWR Collett 2-6-2 Passenger Tank new Swindon works May 1931 to Southall, other sheds include Slough, Bath Road and finally Reading. It was withdrawn from here and cut up at Buttigiegs, Newport March 1965. In face restored only condition. 61 An enamel Advertising sign “CADBURY’S COCOA ABSOLUTELY PURE REFRESHING SUSTAINING” white on blue with some minor face chipping & edge rusting otherwise in good condition. Size 32” x 5 ½”. An Early Sign! 62 A North British Railway Handlamp clearly stamped “NBR” and “7345-5-COWDENBEATH” and plated “BULPITT & SONS BIRMINGHAM 1917”. In good unrestored condition with LNER pattern Reservoir. 63 A cast iron Shedplate 2A Rugby 1950 to September 1963 and then Tyseley to 7/1/66. In unrestored ex loco condition. 64 A London & North Western Railway 12” Fuse’ Wall Clock, with the original face lettered “J.B.JOYCE & Co. LTD WHITCHURCH” and retains it’s original LNWR enamel Numberplate “2704” in good working order complete with Key & pendulum. 65 A collection of three brass Signalbox Shelf Repeaters including S.Rly Home Signal Repeater, (LMS) Distant signal On/Off and (LMS) Bar/Clear indicator with ivorine plate No.1 and mounting bracket. All three are in good condition. 65A A Great Western & London & North Eastern Railway Joint Cart Horse Bridle Brass “GW & L.N.E. RLYS”. In totally ex loco condition. In totally ex loco condition. 67 A BR(M) wooden Station Finger Board lettered “LEICESTER, BEDFORD AND LONDON” with feathered arrow, double sided in maroon & straw. In good ex Station condition. 68 An LMS enamel sign “LONDON MIDLAND & SCOTTISH RAILWAY PRIVATE ROAD AND/OR FOOTPATH” white on black with minor edge chipping otherwise a very good example of this Scarce sign! 69 A cast iron sign (Furness Railway) “BEWARE OF THE TRAINS” in very good unrestored condition. 70 A Southern Railway enamel Station Target sign “ASHFORD” (Kent) on it’s original backing board with some edge chipping repaired and some face chips, otherwise in good condition. A Scarce example from this Station. Note: this is Ashford Kent as these have the six holes whereas the other Southern Region Ashford has eight holes. 70A An alloy Key Token “MACHYNLLETH – CEMMES RD”. In good ex box condition. 71 A BR(S) double side enamel Station sign “TRAINS TO WOOLWICH CHATHAM AND KENT COAST” with “WAY OUT” on the other side. There is some minor face & edge chips otherwise in very good condition with good deep colour & shine. Size 24” x 18”. 72 A BR(W) (GWR pattern) Locomotive Headlamp complete and in restored condition. 73 A cast iron Shedplate 41G Barnsley July 1958 to January 1960. The plate is in totally ex loco condition. 74 A cast iron Wagon Axle Box Cover W&LRY” & “1904” Welshpool and Llanfair Railway. In ex Wagon condition. A Scarce survivor from this Welsh Narrow Gauge Railway! 75 An alloy Locomotive Presentation Nameplate “CREWE BASFORD HALL” as fitted to Class 90 “90 135” named by Pete Waterman at the Basford Hall open day on the 21/8/94. The plate is un carried and is displayed on a wooden mount. Size 73 ¾” x 9 ¾”. 75A A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway nickel Cap Badge “LYR GUARD” in very good condition. 76 A North British Railway Tapper Block Bell, the inside marked “NB RY No.797”. In very good ex Station condition. Size 20” x 6 ¼”. 78 A Smiths Steam Locomotive Speedometer, the dial lettered “SMITHS B.R. MPH 0 – 100”. This example is in unused, ex stores condition and was acquired from Crewe Works at the end of steam. 79 A cast iron Boundry Post (Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire) “MS&L”. In very good restored condition. 80 A BR (Sc) enamel Station Direction sign “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) HILLINGTON WEST STATION” with left facing arrow. Some repaired edge chips and some mottling otherwise in good condition. Size 28” x 13”. 80A A G Scale Garden Railway 2-6-2 Steam Locomotive in green. In good used condition. 81 An enamel Advertising sign “WATSONS MATCHLESS CLEANSER IS THE SOAP FOR ALL PURPOSES” blue/white with makers name to the bottom edge “FALKIRK IRON Co.”. Some minor edge chipping otherwise in very good condition. These were found on the back of Chairs to Advertise the product.
