“Experience” and “innovation” are
not only abstract concepts in Coges,
but they are among the company’s
values which guide and urge the design and realization of a product, the
organization of the technical support
and the approach to the market.
Starting from this point of view,
the “virtual” presence of the company
in Internet adopts a new look.
As in the past the renewal is not

Vending Paris
Products and Projects
The “Vending Paris” exhibition was held in Paris from
October 29 to November 1, 2008.
The event has reached its tenth edition and, to celebrate this anniversary, the organisers enriched the customary
gala evening with an enjoyable and amusing cabaret which
delighted all the participants.
The exhibition, apart from having had a name change,
has tried to present a new identity that would match the
dynamic image of the whole Vending industry.
As regards this, three itineraries were created for the
visitors: “Environment expert”, in which the companies that
wanted to highlight their environmental commitments took
part; “Stores and small experts”, for visitors with smaller
businesses, looking for solutions tailored to their needs;
“Nomading experts”, created to satisfy the requirements
of those seeking Take Away solutions to supplement their
business, thus offering a clear picture of the fast-food and
take-away catering market. Coges belonged to the latter
itinerary.
Approximately 13,000 visitors attended the exhibition,
and besides France, the main countries taking part in the
event were Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain and Holland.
In fact, even at the Coges stand, the stream of foreign
visitors coming from Countries other than France was surprising.
After Venditalia, also Vending Paris most certainly confirms itself as being an international event from every point
of view and strongly underlines the fact that the Vending
sector belongs to an increasingly global market.
The Coges stand was greatly appreciated both from the
aesthetic viewpoint in general, and for the way the products
were displayed.
During the event, apart from the PROFIT coin mechanism, prominence was given to the new Platinum, Titanium
and Iridium systems; furthermore, the automatic vending
machine installed on the stand met with great interest, providing an insight into the project which Coges is conducting
together with Telecom, dealing with payment by means of
cellular phones.
The Coges team that took part in the exhibition event
declared itself unanimously very satisfied, with the new
contacts created and because of the enjoyable visits received from their already consolidated clients. At times, in fact,
apart from being the perfect moment for doing business,
the event proved to be an opportunity for making contact
with one’s own clients
from a more personal
point of view, providing
added value to the whole
experience. Once again,
interaction with the most
important
European
operators and manufacturers has certainly provided the company with
great ideas and new incentives for working towards continuous improvement.
Telecom Project
COGES s.p.a., a leading company at European level in
the designing and production of payment systems, has presented a new revolutionary payment system by means of
mobile phones.
The product presented in pre-release at VENDITALIA
2008 is still at designing stage and derives from the cooperation with TELECOM ITALIA LAB, the well established
TELECOM ITALIA research centre located in Turin.
The project is based on a new transmission system
which allows communication between cellular phones and
automatic vending machines with proximity technology (it
is unnecessary for the mobile phone to actually rest on the
vending machine, being near is enough).
Thanks to this innovative technology, mobile phones
can identify vending machines present in the vicinity and
inform the user through simple messages displayed on the
mobile phone: after having selected the automatic vending
machine of his choice, the user can proceed to make a purchase.
Use of the mobile terminal, furthermore, allows the
user to access information services on the products available from the automatic vending machine. This new way
of making payment, complementing the possibilities already existing on COGES systems, such as cash payment and
cashless keys/cards, allows even greater flexibility for the
management of automatic vending machines in satisfying
the requirements of all possible users.

The new payment systems
Platinum, Titanium, Iridium
E.C.S. Platinum
The payment system to satisfy every need.
Highlights
The E.C.S. Platinum Key - Card system represents the
latest advance in electronic payment systems and can be installed on vending machines operating with Executive, BDV,
MDB protocol and electromechanical versions by means of
a special interface (optional). It has been designed to assure maximum flexibility thanks also to the integrated cash
and cashless handling system, by means of connection to
coin and bill validators and change giver coin mechanism.
With the Platinum system it is possible to programme
100 sale prices in price-holding, cost by price configuration or manage sale prices directly at the vending machine. There is a practical programming wizard for setting the
operating parameters, which can then be set in other systems using the advanced management Program-Key. Platinum also provides the opportunity for integrating various
functions aimed at assuring maximum user satisfaction
and fidelity, such as discounts, bonuses and promotions,
which may also vary according to key category or time of
day. The system can also be used to operate calorie control (a function patented by Coges) in order to cater for the
most advanced European health standards. Utilisation is
made more efficient by the user key autocode function and
automatic deposit management, while accounting data readings, in EVA-DTS format, can also be made using either
the integrated IR interface in the Card reader or the optional IR PORT Module.
The Key and Card readers have two LED’s to help the
user when making a purchase while the client can customise the colours of the light illuminating the top of the readers. Both the system itself and the key and card readers
are made of self-extinguishing material.
04
E.C.S. Titanium
All the advantages of cashless, without having to give
up cash.
E.C.S. Titanium Key - Card is a key and card payment
system. It is ideal when you need to combine the advantages of cashless with the possibility of simultaneous connection with a coin validator and a bill validator.
The Titanium system is available in Executive or MDB
versions.
The system permits the programming of 15 items for
sale in price holding configuration (in the Executive version
only), cost by price or alternatively, the management of the
sales prices directly by the vending machine. What is more,
with the Titanium system simultaneous management of a
bill validator and a coin validator is also possible.
There is a practical programming wizard for setting
the operating parameters, which can then be set in other
systems using the advanced management Program-Key.
System utilisation is simplified by the user key autocode
function and automatic deposit management, while accounting data readings, available in both extended mode
and EVA-DTS format, can also be made using either the integrated IR interface in the Card reader or the optional IR
PORT Module.
The Key and Card readers have two LED’s to help the
user when making a purchase while the client can customise the colours of the light illuminating the top of the readers. Both the system itself and the key and card readers
are made of self-extinguishing material.

E.C.S. Iridium
Small dimensions for a great cashless system.
E.C.S. Iridium Key – Card is a key and card payment system, created for those who need high performance combined with ease of use.
The Iridium system can be connected to a vending machine operating with the MDB protocol.
With this system it is possible to programme 10 sale
prices in cost-by-price configuration or to manage sale prices directly in the vending machine.
Iridium supports MyKey keys, MyCard cards and all Coges service keys for programming, updating firmware and
reading accounting data.
There is a practical programming wizard for setting the
operating parameters, which can then be set in other systems using the advanced management Program-Key.
System utilisation is simplified by the user key autocode function and automatic deposit management, while
accounting data readings, available in both extended mode
and EVA-DTS format, can also be made using either the integrated IR interface in the Card reader or the optional IR
PORT Module.
The Key and Card readers have two LED’s to help the
user when making a purchase while the client can customise the colours of the light illuminating the top of the readers.
Both the system itself and the key and card readers are
made of self-extinguishing material.
Presenting PROFIT No. 10,000!

Congresses, exhibitions and meetings
From India to Malaya, from Czech Republic to Hungary
In Padua and Vicenza, during the last week of October,
two conventions relative to the Indian and Malaysian markets were held. At these venues, import-export characteristics were outlined and opportunities for Italian companies defined. The convention regarding the Indian market,
organised by the Antonveneta-Monte dei Paschi bank and
by Finlife Corporate Finance and Gianni, Orogoni, Grippo &
Partners, was held in Padua at the bank premises. All these organisations are active in research and consultations
for companies that intend dealing with markets in the Far
East. Title of the convention: INDIA: new horizons for new
investments from and in India. Experts exchanging experiences. A welcoming address was also delivered by Sarvajit Chakravarti, India’s consul general in Italy.
From the congress it has become evident that, at this moment in time, it is almost an obligation for Italian companies
intending to expand abroad to look towards markets such
as the Chinese and the Indian, to make good the losses/
deficiencies that could derive from other markets and to
face future challenges with a renewed and optimistic spirit,
considering globalisation as an opportunity rather than a
menace. Investments are certainly rather difficult right now
but, on the other hand, favourable as far as India is concerned, with its strong political stability and great sense of democracy leading its people to being among those with the
most developed sense for commerce. Obviously India must
not be viewed simply as a market for low cost production,
but rather as a reality in which to produce, but also sell. Several entrepreneurs currently operating in India were also
present at the convention. These companies feel that it is
essential to be present now in the Indian market for a mainCoges Open Day
On October 22, 2008, Coges and MIXA Vending, official
distributor for the Czech Republic, organised the first Coges Open day in the Czech Republic. The event, reserved for
the sector specialists, was organised with the aim of presenting Coges and its complete range of products. Going by
the massive presence of operators, both Czech and Slovak,
market response was excellent. We once again recorded
great interest for the cashless solutions, above all from the
direct testimony of MIXA, which attained a marked increase in sales and some obvious benefits in the management
and collection of accounting data from the adoption of the
ECS systems and our TS coin mechanisms. Furthermore,
the event has allowed Coges and Mixa to further strengthen their cooperation in planning the main commercial
and marketing actions for 2009. The success obtained with
the public has moreover convinced us to already repeat the
event on November 27, in Bratislava.

ly strategic reason, to
be on the spot when
the market starts to
grow at an even greater pace than it is now
doing. As regards the
convention on the Malaysian market, this
took place in Vicenza
at the Vicenza Industrial Association headquarters. Title of
the convention: Malaysia: the ASEAN tiger. From this venue
some very positive impressions were also gained regarding
the Malaysian market. Malaysia is the 19th most important
commercial country in the world; it boasts a GDP that has
an annual growth of 5% (the first quarter of 2008 recorded
a +7.1%), a good infrastructure level, an economy open to
direct and indirect foreign investments and a low “country risk” rate (category 2, OCSE). Particularly interesting is
the fact that, as member of ASEAN (S-E Asia organisation
of nations), Malaysia is one of the signatories of AFTA, an
agreement that will do away with custom duties between
member countries as from 2010. It is to be noted that Malaysia has 28 million inhabitants, while the grouped ASEAN
member countries amount to 500 million. In fact, at macroeconomic level, Malaysia would seem to be an interesting
market as well as support for the S-E Asian markets. In the
light of all this it would seem a moral obligation to continue
to monitor the situation of these Countries and of all the
others that belong to the same geographical area, in order
to always be at the forefront of the world market’s economic evolution.
Automata EXPO Vending 2008
Coges, with its Hungarian distributor ESMA, took part
in the Automata Vending 2008 exhibition, which was held in
Budapest from November 6 to 8.
The event, at its third edition, has become a veritable
cornerstone-appointment for all players in the Hungarian
automatic vending machine distribution market. In a focussed and competitive market such as the one in Hungary,
the use of cashless solutions is in constant growth, above
all owing to increased sales and to accounting data collection.
This, therefore, explains the remarkable success and
interest in the E.C.S. payment systems and for TS coin mechanisms with the integrated cashless feature, which for
the operator is tantamount to a veritable investment capable of maximising the profitability of the automatic vending
machine and optimising the activities of data management
and collection.
News from
the world
Multi-medial features in vending machines
In the past, automatic vending machines dispensed only
coffee or snacks. But this was only up to the day before yesterday, and not in England.
Jointly, Sony and Universal have in fact announced the
PoP Entertainment Vending Machine, an automatic dispenser of Films, music and videogames for Ps3.
The goods can be purchased on a traditional digital
support (Dvd, cd or Blue-ray without distinction) or can be
saved on a USB key, SD card or MP3 reader.
Among other features the machine has a really cool
look: touch screen and large intuitive interfaces for selecting, and paying for the items.
This is certainly an excellent idea.
Above all for the various embargoes which are
punctually broken with the
approval of complaisant
shopkeepers. In this case,
if it is stated that “Gears Of
War 2” is to hit the scene
on November 7, then it is
enough to set the machine so that it will issue the game
only on the stroke of midnight: this way, everyone is happy,
both the publisher and the marketing people.
Videogame players, perhaps a little less…..
At last, what is actually behind, or rather, inside automatic vending machines, has now been revealed.
