Bike Program - To encourage healthy activities for our students, the Epping Middle
School is offering a spring mountain bike program. The program will be held after school
on Wednesdays throughout the month of May. The program is open to all middle school
grades but is limited to 10 students. Attached is a list of specific information on the
activity. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments. - Mr. DeGruttola.
Honor Roll – Enclosed, on a separate sheet, is the quarter 3 Honor Roll for Epping
Middle School. Some changes were made, so this is the revised Honor Roll.
Epping Middle School to Celebrate Get Caught Reading Month - May is Get
Caught Reading month across the country. Epping Middle School has many activities
planned for the week of May 7-11, 2012, to encourage reading.
The Scholastic Book Fair Luau will be held from Monday to Friday. The family sale will
take place on Thursday, May 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Unified
Arts Learning in Motion Presentation and the Fifth Grade Parents' Information Night.
Students will be able to find many books suitable for summer reading. "One For Books Turning Dollars and Coins into Books and Smiles" will also take place throughout the
week. When students drop change or bills into the One For Books box, they will receive
a ticket to enter a drawing. On Friday, a name will be drawn. The winner will win half
the money collected to spend on books at the fair; the remainder of the money will be
used to purchase books for classrooms.
In keeping with the Hawaiian theme, students will combine a spirit week with the Get
Caught Reading activities. Monday will be sunglasses day; Tuesday will be flip flops
day; Wednesday will be whacky hat day; and Thursday will be tie-dyed tee-shirt day.
Any student "caught reading" from Monday to Thursday, will be given a ticket which will
allow him/her to earn an "I Got Caught Reading at Epping Middle School" tee-shirt.
Students will be asked to proudly wear their tee-shirts on Friday. Also on Friday,
faculty/student volleyball games will be held at the end of the day to cap off the week's
activities.
On Thursday, students will have the opportunity to take part in a webcast event with
number one best-selling author James Patterson at 1:00 p.m. Patterson will be using the
webcast to launch his new book, Middle School: Get Me Out of Here, the much-awaited
sequel to his best seller, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.
Book talks on some of the books available at the Book Fair were presented to students
today. Next week's events were explained as well. We encourage all students to
participate in what should be a week of fun activities!
Learning in Motion - You are invited to come and see what happens in the Unified
Arts classes. Students will be teaching or demonstrating what takes place in our classes
and share their accomplishments with you. Please plan on attending and see the fun
and education that occurs every day. We call it “Learning in Motion”. May 10th 7:008:00 pm.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Next week (the week of May 7th) is National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. The
EMS Volunteers would like to thank the middle school teachers and staff by hosting a
breakfast for them on Wednesday, May 9th at 7:00am in the middle school. We are
asking for donations from any parents/guardians to help make this breakfast a success.
All are welcome to be a part of helping with the breakfast.
If your last name begins with:
A-D:
Juice, Water, Breakfast Drinks
E-M:
Pastry, Breakfast Breads, Bagels
N-Z:
Fruit or Yogurt
If you are able to help donate food, please drop it off at the EMS office the day before on
May 8th or before 7am on Wednesday, May 9.
Please label the dish/food "EMS Appreciation Breakfast". If a donation of food is not
possible, and and you would like to help in some way, you can send in a $5.00 money
donation (please put in envelope addressed to Stephanie Sturzo) to be used to defray the
cost of the breakfast extras that will need to be purchased.
If you are able to help in any way, please email Amy Randall at rasm@comcast.net so we
can make sure we have enough food. Thank you very much!!
