SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Celebrated on the second Sunday of each month at 2 pm. In order to participate in this celebration, parents
must register at the Rectory Office for our pre-baptism program.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Couples planning to marry should contact the Rectory Office before visiting a reception hall. The preparation
process is nine months before your proposed wedding date. Call the Rectory Office for further information.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION: Children in the seventh and eight grades are prepared to celebrate this Sacrament through the
Religious Education Program. Adults prepare for this Sacrament through the RCIA process. Call the Rectory Office for further information.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (Confession/Penance): Available Tuesday morning following Novena, Friday morning immediately after
the 8:00 am Mass and Saturdays from 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm and any time at the Rectory by appointment with a priest.
SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: In the case of serious, unexpected illness, please contact the Rectory Office to arrange
for a priest to pray with the ill person. For those about to enter the hospital, anointing of the Sick is held on the first Saturday of the month
following the 8:30 am Mass.
SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS: Anyone interested in exploring the vocation to the priesthood or the diaconate should call the Rectory
Office. Those interested in living their lives as Religious Sisters or Brothers, should call the Rectory.

Fr. Rene’s Letter
Dear Parishioners,
This Sunday’s Lucan Gospel is a parable. A shocking story. But, it gives us a picture drawn from life by our Lord
who truly knows what happens in people’s lives and what is going on in their hearts. It also gives us a glimpse into
what lies at the end of the road when we meet death, the door to eternity, the appearance of our Lord at his chosen
time.
Evidently, our present life contains innumerable “Lazaruses” and “Diveses”. The Lazaruses are lying before our
eyes, weak, full of sores, hungry, starving, waiting for crumbs to fall on them. Others are less visible in their
deprivations: the lonely, the forgotten, the spiritually and morally destitute, those with increasing material need,
those in need of understanding, mercy, forgiveness and love. Behind their doors are the Diveses, the “rich people”.
Things go well for them, and they enjoy having things go well. They are generous and openhearted with their
friends. But somehow they become blind: they no longer see the Lazaruses in front of their doors. A great danger.
Our failings and our omissions can even be worse. This is our Lord’s daily concern; ours, too. For after death, once
over there, there is no more repentance. Once we are over there, that unbridgeable abyss between paradise and
the place of torment cannot be crossed.
Our Lord gives this parable to shake us up. Our present life which contains our future and our consolation is the
place to do something now. After death, it’s too late. Now is the time. Open those doors and be aware of the
Lazaruses. Let their wants, their afflictions go to our hearts. Relieve them with your bread. In the next life, they will
be our real friends, and their testimony will provide you and I a resting place. In spirit and attitude, are we still
willing to do this, now?
The number of young disciples who are going through our catechetical program is still growing. As of now, we have
more than two hundred fifty. Let’s keep on praying for them and for our dedicated parish catechists.
This year, the RCIA classes will be held here in our parish. Four candidates have signified to go through the
journey which will start on the first week of next month. We thank God for our volunteer catechists and presenters:
John Hyland, Pat Rooney, Gabriel Chieco, Marianne Berke, Fr. Rene, and Deacon Choi who is heading the
ministry.
New choir members, both for the English and Spanish Choirs, are needed. If you enjoy singing or playing musical
instruments and would like to sing and play only for and always for Christ, kindly consider this invitation
prayerfully….and join and minister.
Renovation work in the old School kitchen has been steadily going on. Hopefully, by next month, we will be able to
start holding our parish monthly fellowship. Special and great thanks to the Temple Bethel Brotherhood for
donating the new stove. Thank you guys! Many thanks as well to Mr. Michael Lamoretti, President of Great Neck
Soccer Club, and to Mr. Stuart Lubert, of Temple Bethel Brotherhood, for sponsoring the soccer uniforms of 12
happy children whose families are served through our Interfaith Food Pantry.
There are an increasing number of parishioners who are coming to the two-hour Eucharistic Adoration in the
Church, from 5:00 to 7:00pm, every Friday. A great blessing indeed to have people praying for all things going in
the parish! Again, come freely and lovingly, when the Holy Spirit moves you.
Finally, next door to an elderly lady lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations. He would shout,
“There ain’t no Lord!” When hard times set in on the lady, she prayed to God to send her some assistance. She
stood on her porch and shouted “Praise the Lord. God, I need food! I’m having a hard time. Please Lord, send me
some groceries!” The next morning, the lady went out on her porch and noted a large bag of groceries and
shouted, “Praise the Lord.” Her neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, “Aha! I told you there was no Lord. I
bought those groceries, God didn’t.” The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and said,
“Praise the Lord. He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them. Praise the Lord.”

St. Vincent de Paul Society - Outreach Office
Next Food Pantry: October 8th 9:30AM-11AM
On September 27, the Church celebrates the feast of St.
Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring
good news to the poor.” Together with your gifts, the members
of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and
mission in our parish.
In the month of September, through your gifts, the Society
of St. Vincent de Paul was able to “bring good news to the
poor,” by assisting at over 90 visits to the Pantry, providing
food and clothing.
Next weekend is the monthly food collection.
Cereal, canned fruit and toothbrushes are
needed.

Monday evening we will hold a mandatory
meeting for parents of First Communicants.
At least one parent must attend (the children
do not have to come) at 7PM in the Social Hall
of our Parish Center.
This would include all students enrolled in our
2nd grade Religious Education classes as well as
several other, older children in assorted
different grade levels.
First Communion will take place on Saturday,
April 29th at 10:30AM.
First Penance will take place on Saturday,
March 11th at 10 AM in our church.

This week in Religious Education class the
students took home our annual fund raiser - a
catalog of interesting items which will be
deliver the week after Thanksgiving.
This year we have added a bonus: The student/
family that has the greatest sales total will
receive $100.00 in tuition credit for the 201617 Religious Education year !!
First runner up will receive $50.00 in tuition
credit. The children are asked NOT to go door
to door but to simply show the catalog to their
family, friends or coworkers.
If you happen to see a catalog and participate,

BLESSING OF OUR ANIMALS & PETS IN HONOR OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI
It is a tradition to bless all our animals in honor of this great Saint. Please bring any of the
animals that you love for a special blessing in thanksgiving for the love and loyalty they offer us all.
The Blessing will be held on the front steps of the Church on Saturday, October 1 st at 11:00AM.
