SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Celebrated on the second Sunday of each month at 2 pm. In order to participate in this celebration, parents
must register at the Rectory Office for our pre-baptism program.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Couples planning to marry should contact the Rectory Office before visiting a reception hall. The preparation
process is nine months before your proposed wedding date. Call the Rectory Office for further information.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION: Children in the seventh and eight grades are prepared to celebrate this Sacrament through the
Religious Education Program. Adults prepare for this Sacrament through the RCIA process. Call the Rectory Office for further information.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (Confession/Penance): Available Tuesday morning following Novena, Friday morning immediately after
the 8:00 am Mass and Saturdays from 4:00 pm - 4:45 pm and any time at the Rectory by appointment with a priest.
SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: In the case of serious, unexpected illness, please contact the Rectory Office to arrange
for a priest to pray with the ill person. For those about to enter the hospital, anointing of the Sick is held on the first Saturday of the month
following the 8:30 am Mass.
SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS: Anyone interested in exploring the vocation to the priesthood or the diaconate should call the Rectory
Office. Those interested in living their lives as Religious Sisters or Brothers, should call the Rectory.

Fr. Rene’s Letter
Dear Parishioners,
How do we stand before God—you and I, ….and our parish? Today’s Sunday Gospel invites us to look at the mirror of the
parable of two men praying. Our Lord Jesus calls us to look into it and asks in which of these two men do we recognize
ourselves. One, a Pharisee, who was inside the church, boasted to God of all his good qualities…..fasted twice a
week…..gave tithes. His list carefully included all his good deeds. Convinced that he was zealous and upright, “okay”
before and the world, he thought God would like him. The other, who was outside the church, simply asked for God’s
mercy. Not regarding himself as upright and “okay”, knowing that a lot of not good things had accrued in his life,
relationship and work, and not making excuses about other people and the society, circumstances, and institutions, he
humbly admitted his guilt. His one petition: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Even now, our Lord continues to hold the
mirror to us. Do we stand before God like the other man standing afar off who knows his misery and poverty or like the first
man standing affront who is misled by his self-righteousness?
Evidently, today’s simple straightforward gospel story shows not only God’s closeness to the man standing afar off, but
also the fact that the man who only can see himself standing affront is a long way from God. Well, God loves each of us not
because you and I are upright and “okay”, but because you and I need mercy. It must be disturbing and disquieting to see
a display of piety like the man inside the church, standing affront, that bears contempt for other people and fails to
recognize their goodness and gifts.
It’s World Mission Sunday. Today, in our prayers and sacrifices, we turn to God for all our missionaries and all mission
areas throughout the world. Let’s take hold of the words of Pope Francis, “Let us not close our hearts within our own
particular concern, but let us open them to all of humanity”. Let’s our missionary spirit be alive and active.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, our young disciples, from kindergarten to the Confirmation Class, with their catechists, had
a wonderful experience praying the entire Rosary in the gymnasium. Looking at the figure of Mary and holding fast to the
images of Christ that passed by, they allowed themselves to be carried away by the calm repetition and steady rhythm of
the Hail Mary, the Our Father, the Glory be, and the Fatima prayer. Their oozing confidence, excitement, as well as their
willingness to lead the prayers was a blessing. The Holy Spirit has been doing an amazing job!
A special thanks to Eric and Adeline Fok and family for their donation ($500.00) to our kitchen renovation work. May God
supply you in all your needs. Regarding work in the kitchen, I was informed that the inspectors are coming on October 25 th
to do the inspection, and, hopefully, give their approval.
I’ll be in Los Angeles this weekend to celebrate Mass for a big group of former parishioners from the Philippines. I will be
back on Sunday evening. Please pray for me.
Finally, someone prays. “Dear Lord, so far today, I am doing all right. I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy,
grumpy, nasty, selfish, or self-indulgent. I have not whined, complained, cursed, or eaten any chocolate. I have charged
nothing on my credit card. But I will be getting out of bed in a minute, and I think that I will really need your help then!

In this Sunday’s Gospel, the tax collector’s prayer allows
God to be God and so allows God to pour mercy into his
heart. When we pray and give alms to the poor, we allow
God’s mercy to be poured into their hearts.
Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de

who is hungry, hopeless, alone and frightened.

All Saints Day,
a Holy Day of Obligation,
is on Tuesday, November 1st.
Masses will be held at 8AM,
12 Noon and 7:30PM.
This week the Confirmation students should be handing in
their first 5 hours of community service. The total due is
20 hours and they are encouraged to stick to the due
dates that were given out at the mandatory meeting in
September.
The "November Calendar" will be sent home with all
children this week at the end of class. If a child is absent,
the calendar will be mailed home. When children are
absent, we ask that the family call the office to let us
know. The number to call is 482-5660. This simple phone
call saves us a lot of time contacting those who are out
that week.
Coming up:
NO CLASS for all students (K-8) on November 1st and 2nd.
In lieu of attending class this week, the children and
families are asked to attend the 7:30PM Mass on Tuesday,
November 1st. It is All Saints Day, a Holy Day of
Obligation. We hope to see many of our children at the
Mass that evening. We will be looking for you.
YES, we WILL have class on Tuesday, November 8th. It is
Election Day and the public schools are closed, however,
we WILL have class that day.
The monthly Religious Ed. Mass will take place on
Saturday, November 19th. All students in grades K - 8 are
encouraged to attend this Mass with their families. The
children will NOT be dismissed that evening. Fr. Rene will
gear his homily to the children during that Mass. We hope
to see you there.
On November 22nd and 23rd we will have a "Fellowship
Assembly" in the gym during class time. This assembly will
be led by Fr. Rene.
Advent begins on November 26th/27th and our prayer
tables will reflect the arrival of this Liturgical Season
with the color purple and the presence of the Advent
Wreath.
On December 6th and 7th we will have an "Advent/Liturgical
Year Assembly" in the gym led by Fr. Rene.
December 17th will be the Pre-Kindergarten Christmas
pageant as well as the monthly Religious Ed. Mass at 5PM.
December 20th and 21st we will have Christmas parties for
the Religious Ed. students.
Our program is busy, exciting and filled with love. St.
Aloysius is the best!!
