Sabah Wildlife and Rainforests Borneo’s natural wonders are amongst some of the most unique and captivating anywhere on the planet. This incredible wildlife adventure takes you on a journey through some of its most iconic and mesmerising landscapes, where you can swim in turtle rich waters and watch orang-utans feeding in the rainforest, before trekking through some of the most unspoiled and pristine wilderness in Malaysia. The adventure begins in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah’s bustling capital, from where you fly to the ‘Turtle Island’ of Selingan, famed for its green and hawksbill turtles. After a chance to swim in the clear waters and watch these remarkable mammals laying their eggs in the soft sands, you then head to the jungles of Sepilok to visit an orang-utan sanctuary. A speed boat then takes you on to the mangrove forests of the Kinabatangan Sanctuary, where you will take afternoon and morning boat rides in search of wildlife, before continuing into the protected landscapes of the Danum Valley to trek amongst the largest protected lowland forest in Sabah. Private basis Private driver and vehicle Speedboats and longboats Sightseeing programme including all entrance fees Private guided transfers to and from all airports Please note the prices shown above are based on two persons sharing a twin or double room Itinerary Day 1: Kota Kinabalu Arriving in Kota Kinabalu you transfer to your hotel, after which you have a free afternoon to enjoy the delights of Sabah's bustling capital. Day 2: Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan - Selingan Island This morning you fly out to Sandakan and then travel by boat out to Selingan Island. Known locally as 'Turtle Island', this idyllic haven is famed for its green and hawksbill turtles and provides an ideal spot for some stunning snorkelling this afternoon. This evening you will be joined by one of the national park rangers to witness the sheer magic of watching one of these remarkable marine creatures laying their eggs in the soft warm sands. (B,L,D) Day 3: Selingan Island - Sepilok Travelling back to Sandakan this morning you visit the Rainforest Discovery Centre en route to the hotel in Sepilok. This afternoon then affords an opportunity to visit the nearby Orang-utan Sanctuary, where you can observe them at their feeding stations and enjoy a short presentation on the Orang-utan Rehabilitation Programme. (B,L) Day 4: Sepilok - Kinabatangan A morning's speed boat ride brings you to the Kinabatangan Sanctuary and the pristine mangrove forests of the Kinabatangan River Delta. After lunch there will be an opportunity to explore something of the local area, before an afternoon's cruise along the river in search of some of the local wildlife. After dinner this evening you can return to the river to enjoy the glittering spectacle of millions of fireflies lighting up the mangroves. (B,L,D) Day 5: Kinabatangan An early morning boat ride takes you around the nearby Ox Bow Lake, for a chance to search out some of the abundant bird and animal life in the area. Returning to the lodge for breakfast, you then pay a visit to the Abai village, before an afternoon at leisure. (B,L,D) Day 6: Kinabatangan - Lahad Dadu - Danum Valley Heading back by boat to Kinabatangan this morning, you then continue by road onto the famous protected forest of the Danum Valley Conservation Area. The largest protected area of lowland forest in Sabah, this is home to an astonishing diversity of life, including over 270 species of birds. On arrival you will enjoy a guided orientation walk through the area and, weather permitting, this evening you will take a night drive out into the forest to look for some of the nocturnal animals that make this preserve their home. (B,L,D) Day 7: Danum Valley After breakfast you will take the short hike out to an ancient Kadazan-Dusun burial site, a 3 kilometre return journey that follows the 'Coffin Trail' and involves a 40 minute climb up to a stunning lookout point. Returning to the hotel for lunch, this afternoon then sees you heading out again, following the Segama Trail and East Trail in search of local wildlife. Day's end involves one more foray out from the lodge, departing after dinner to seek out some of the area's nocturnal creatures. (B,L,D) Day 8: Danum Valley Following an early morning walk and breakfast, you then head out with a local guide to trek up to the Fairy Falls and the Serpent Falls and the afternoon is afternoon is at leisure. (B,L,D) Day 9: Danum Valley - Lahad Dadu - Kota Kinabalu After breakfast drive overland to Lahad Dadu for your afternoon flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival in Kota Kinabalu you will met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. (B,L) Day 10: Kota Kinabalu After a free morning in Kota Kinabalu you will transfer to the airport where your tour will end.
