Depart Sydney for Kuala Lumpur & a
connecting service to Kota Kinabalu.

100 feet above ground level, through the
rainforest treetops. The world’s largest
flower, the elusive Rafflesia, may be seen
in this area, if you are in luck.
After a buffet lunch you may wish to
indulge in the hot springs or swim in
refreshing cold pools.

Lunch today is a grand affair at the
English Teahouse, overlooking Sandakan
Bay. Visit Sandakan War Memorial on the
site of the POW camp where thousands
of Australian and British POW’s died in
WW2.

A late start to the day with the famous
Sunday Gaya street fair, where you can
buy anything from snakes & puppies to
plants, herbal potions, clothes & cheap
trinkets. We will follow this with a city
orientation tour & welcome lunch at
a local restaurant. Late afternoon &
evening free.

Travel overland to Sukau, a small village
on the Kinabatangan River. Relax at
the lodge & in the late afternoon take
a river cruise along the river in search
of wildlife.

Traverse the picturesque Crocker Range
to Kinabalu Park. Walk a rainforest trail,
visit the Mountain Garden & enjoy lunch
at the Park restaurant. At Kundasang we
will visit the Australian War Memorial,
with beautiful gardens & stunning views
of the mountain. Dinner will be at the
resort.

Cruise through the lowland rainforest
along the Kinabantangan River. See

Travel by boat downstream to Abai
Village. This afternoon we participate in a
re-forestation exercise with the villagers.
In the evening we will go out in search
of frogs & fireflies.

The living crop museum showcases many
commercial plants such as hemp, cotton,
sugar cane, nutmeg, coffee, cloves,
tamarind & ylang ylang.

This morning visit the Sepilok Orangutan
Centre to view the 10am feeding, & learn
about the rehabilitation of orphaned
orangutans. In the afternoon we will
spend time at the Rainforest Discovery
Centre where we may be fortunate to
see rare birds & flying squirrels.

Day 10 - mon 17 jun 13 Sandakan - Kota Kinabalu (B/L)
Return by air to Kota Kinabalu. Visit a
private garden at Kingfisher Park. There
will be time for shopping this afternoon.
The evening is at leisure. The hotel has
a pool and is near the waterfront where
there are cafes and many food stalls.
