Mark Your Calendar for the 12th Annual
“Brighten the Days of Our Strays” Dinner and Auction!
Join us on Sunday evening, August 21st for Open Door’s
largest annual fundraiser: “Brighten the Days of Our
Strays” presented by Carol House Furniture! We have a new
venue this year: The DoubleTree Hilton in Chesterfield. It
will be our biggest and best event ever! The evening includes
an elegant seated dinner, our huge silent auction, an awesome
presentation on the stories from Open Door's rescues in the
past year, and an overall good time with an animal loving
crowd! Thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Carol House
Furniture; our Gold Sponsor, Ceva Animal Health; our Silver
Sponsor, Rebecca Leinenbach; and our Bronze Sponsors
4-Legged Kids and Benz Press Werks!
If you or your business has an item(s) or gift certificate we
may be able to use for our auction, please let us know. Your
donation will be recognized at the event. And, we are also
soliciting additional corporate sponsors. Corporate sponsorship is a great way to ADVERTISE your business! By
partnering with Open Door as a sponsor, your company's
support will be evident to our thousands of constituents from
the greater St. Louis area through being featured as a sponsor
on our website, on our Facebook page, in our mailed and
emailed newsletters, on the invitation and in the event
program. Your company's sponsorship investment in Open
Door will be returned with key marketing exposure to our
donors, adopters, volunteers, and event participants! Please
contact Carrie Warren for more details about sponsor levels
and benefits at:

BECOME AN ADOPTION AMBASSADOR
Open Door is one of a select number of shelters to receive an
ASPCA grant to implement an innovative approach to integrate
cat placement through the ASPCA Adoption Ambassadors
model. The Adoption Ambassadors program is foster care taken
to the next level. The Adoption Ambassadors home-to-home
program gives dogs and cats a better chance at finding homes by
expanding your reach and engaging volunteers as adoption
counselors, talent agents and foster parents at the same time. It
lets adopters get more detailed information about an animal’s
behavior in a home environment and improves quality of life
while awaiting adoption. The Adoption Ambassadors are
responsible for every step of the adoption process from finding
potential adopters, performing home check, completing paperwork and collecting payment.
Open Door plans to implement the Adoption Ambassadors
model for both dogs and cats. However, while getting dogs into
the community to meet potential adopters is fairly straight
forward (i.e. adopt me vest, Ambassador takes the dog for
walks, to the pet store, dog park, etc.) integrating cats into this
model provides a unique opportunity to be very creative.
Open Door will provide each cat Ambassador with a Kittywalk
Stroller that is “decorated” to indicate that the passenger is
available for adoption. Open Door has one of these strollers that
we use for events and the lucky cat passenger in the stroller gets
A LOT of attention.
Qualities that Open Door will look for in a cat Adoption
Ambassador include but are not limited to:
• Live in a community that is favorable to have a large
population of cat owners or potential cat owners. One
example would be pet friendly apartment complexes.
• Are social and like to meet new people.
o Frequently invite others to their home,
where friends and family will be introduced
to their foster cat.
o Willing to take their foster cat out with them
in the community in the Kittywalk stroller,
including walks, pet friendly cafes, pet
stores, etc.
• Creative and willing to think outside the box when it
comes to promoting their foster cat for adoption.
If you are interested in being an adoption Ambassador
for one of our cats please contact
Amanda Duncan at amanda@odas.org or at 636-671-3643.
