KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Practice placements successfully undertaken:
Adoption Services
 Gained an understanding of the statutory requirements and legislation
regarding adoption.
 Experienced carrying out assessments of prospective adopters to
assess their suitability and needs in becoming adoptive parents.
 Worked with children for whom adoption was the only option by
working openly and honestly, ensuring that the young person remained
central to the process.
 Able to construct Child Permanence Report to present to panel.
 Given opportunity to be involved in an “exchange” where information is
exchanged between adoption agencies to try and locate and secure
placements for prospective adopters and also children awaiting
permanent families.
 Attended additional training sessions throughout time spent with the
agency.
Southampton City Community Involvement Team
 Gained an understanding of the range of services provided. Ensuring
that communities, groups and local people are empowered and have
the opportunity to have some influence on any decisions that affect
their quality of life.
 Had a lead role in compiling a community profile and resource directory
with contact numbers and addresses for all the organisations within the
north neighbourhood partnership.
 I had the opportunity of being involved in the development of a new
Sure Start Centre and the planning and preparation for its opening.
 Supported another worker during a consultation exercise regarding the
relocation of a play area on a social housing estate with high levels of
anti-social behaviour. Encouraging local residents by expressing their
views.
 Worked with a range of professionals and agencies to develop the
professional network for the benefit of the north neighbourhood
partnership.
 Identifying the need to balance risks and rights within the community in
relation to community safety issues, ASBOs ABCs etc.
 Acquired a good knowledge and understanding of the agencies policies
and procedures.
