RaceXpert Bank Builder
RaceXpert Bank Builder Automated Betting Software User Guide 16 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 Introduction RaceXpert Bank Builder (RBB) is a multi-functional Excel based application that facilitates the automated staking and backing of selections derived using the core RaceXpert ratings “Summary Box Selections” and the new RX top rated rating. A combination of proprietary filters combined with live market prices are used to identify a maximum of one selection in each suitable race using the RaceXpert Ratings Selection Box feature or the new RX rating. This selection can then be backed to win in the Betfair Win Market and also (optional) to place. The user can also choose to mix the selection sources using the Selection box for the win market and the RX top rated for the place market. These selections are then staked using an inbuilt staking strategy which has been designed to maximise the systems profitability in an extremely efficient and risk adverse manner. The staking strategy comprises a fixed user defined starting stake and a number of variable smaller stakes which are applied to a sequence of bets with the sole objective of achieving a net profit. Once this profit is reached the betting cycle is completed and a new one is commenced. A betting cycle can be as short as just one bet if it is a winner or (under normal circumstances) a maximum of eleven bets, after which, even if the cycle is showing a net loss, the cycle is ended and a new one is begun. The default system configuration (excluding the new enhanced staking strategy) which was used to generate the period of test results can be achieved by doing a full reset using the “Reset” macro button. RBB uses the Gruss Betting Assistant to source live Betfair prices and subsequently place bets on the Betfair Exchange. RBB Operating Environment To use the RBB system, the following operating environment is required. A funded Betfair account A copy of Gruss Betting Assistant Version 1.3.0.18 or later. To begin, run the Gruss Betting Assistant and select “Excel” from the Gruss menu and then click on the “Log Multiple Sheets Quick Link” option as shown below. The following dialog box will open, this has all the options you need to correctly setup up RBB and once completed and saved it does not generally need to be configured again. This box has a range of drop down menu options and tick boxes that will be used to connect the RBB spreadsheet to both the Betfair Win and Place markets. Initially the box may only open with one row but a second row will open automatically as the first one is being completed. You need to complete the options in two rows, one for the Betfair Win market and the other for the Betfair Place market. This is a simple process and with the exception of just a couple of options, the selected options are identical in both rows. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 4 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 Step 1 – Complete Row 1 for the Betfair Win Market Select the options as follows: Workbook – Follow the options to locate, select and open the Bank Builder Excel file. This will be called “BankBuilderActive.xlsm” and should be on your desktop. Worksheet – Select “Win Market” from the drop down list. Origin Cell – Ensure this is always set to “A1”. Quick Pick Markets – Click on the “0 items” box and select the All Betfair UK Win and All IRE Win options on the list of Betfair markets. Results Sheet – Click on this option and select the “Win Results” from the drop down menu. Please ensure you make the right selection for this option. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN THE SAME SELECTION BEING BACKED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE SAME RACE. Remaining Tick Box Options These should be all completed as shown in the above image. Step 2 – Complete Row 2 for the Betfair Place Market During the above process, a second row will automatically appear. This is used to connect to the Betfair Place markets and all options are identical to the above with the following exceptions. 1. For the “Worksheet” option, select “Place Market” rather than “Win Market” 2. Quick Pick Markets – Select “All UK Place” and “All IRE Place” markets. 3. Results Sheets – Select “Place Result”. The full completed set of options are shown in the two images below. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 7 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 When completed click on the “Save and Close” option, this will close the main dialog box and save all your options. Launching the Bank Builder Spreadsheet To run the RBB each day, first make sure that Bank Builder is NOT running then just open Gruss Betting Assistant. When Gruss has opened fully please open the “Log Multiple Sheets Options” from Excel on the main menu. When the dialog box opens, just click on the “Start Logging” box at the bottom of the main options box, this will automatically open and connect your RBB spreadsheet. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 8 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 RBB Display The RBB system has two visible worksheet tabs, “Win Market” and “Results History”. Main Display and Settings – Win Market Tab The main display and settings screen (Win Market tab) is divided into three main areas. 1. Control Panel & Information Displays 2. Active Betting Cycle Display 3. Completed Betting Cycles Display Section 1: Control Panel & Information Displays This displays is divided into eight separate subsections as outlined below. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 9 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 1. Main Filter Status This displays the status of the main six sub filters which if any fails will result in a bet not being placed. 2. Staking Details There are three entry fields that are used to enter the Stake, Stop profit and Stop Loss amounts. It is important to note that the Stop Loss is calculated as the total of the max loss plus the value of the next stake. For example, if the stop loss is set at -£100 and the net loss is currently -£95 with the next stake value at £6, no bet will be placed as the combined total should the bet lose would be -£101. The minimum Stop loss is -£10 and the default value is -£50. The minimum Profit Stop is £0.01 and the default value is £10. 3. System Status Display This shows the number of betting cycles won and lost. The total amount staked is also displayed together with the present ROI (return on investment) on this amount. The bet trigger becomes active approximately 30 seconds prior to the official off for a race and up to this time it will be displayed as a “waiting” status. The system status is show as either “Running” or “Stopped” and when stopped, no bets can be placed. 4. Tick Boxes and List Boxes There are three tick box options and two drop down list box options. These are used to configure the default operational status of the system plus afford the user some flexibility in designing their own proprietary configurations. O/R Results – The default status of this is ticked. It is used to activate a proprietary staking algorithm that adjusts the stake to allow bets to be made when there are outstanding results. Under normal circumstances the staking strategy must know the result of all previous bets in order to calculate the next stake. By ticking this option, the user can ensure that a bet is placed in all races where there is a selection. If left unticked bets will only be placed once the outcome of all previous races are known which in turn can result in a lot of selections being missed as the system waits for all results to be posted. When considering this option, it is also worth noting that that when ticked, the system may place bets with potential cumulative losses on stakes that exceed the system stop loss parameter set. Again this is due to the system only being able to calculate the true profit or loss once all results are known. Place Mkt – The default status of this is un-ticked. When ticked it is used to activate the placing of bets in the place market. Bets placed in the place market are also subject to the staking strategy and vary in stake size based on the place price available and the size of the stake being placed in the win market. A bet in the place market will never be larger than twice the corresponding win stake but it can be considerably lower. The objective of place market bets is RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 10 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 to try and recover the associated win stake (or as much as possible) should the win market selection fail to win but achieve a place. Lvl Stk – The default status of this option is un-ticked. When ticked the inbuilt staking strategy is switched off and level stakes equal to the amount enter as the Stake will be placed on all selections in the win and (if selected) the place markets. Min Pr – The default value of this option is 1.10. It is used to control the minimum price filter for all system selections. If the minimum price cannot be achieved on a selection, then no bet will be placed. The minimum and maximum setting for this filter is 1.10 and 2.50 (6/4) respectively. Max Rnr – The default value of this option is 50. It is used to control the maximum number of runners in a race for a bet to qualify. The minimum and maximum settings for this option are 7 and 50 respectively. By adjusting the minimum selection price and the maximum number of runners in a race, the user can fine tune any of the system’s three core selection methods (Ratings Selection Box, RX1 Rating or Mixture of both) to be more selective thus potentially obtaining a better return than the core default operation of the system. 5. Race Identification – This displays the current race being processed by the system plus a countdown timer to the time of the official off for the race. Once the timer reaches 30 seconds the bet trigger for the race becomes active and will remain in this state for another 25 seconds. If there is a selection in this race then a bet will be placed provide the system is running (turned on) and all the 6 sub filters (ref point 1 above), are being passed. When the timer reaches zero, the next race in timed order will be automatically loaded into the system. 6. Selection Details – The selections for both the win and place markets are displayed in this area together with their current live prices and the pending stake to be placed. 7. Date and System ID – The current date and system revision number are displayed in this area. When reporting a potential fault or contacting support please always quote this revision number. 8. System Macros - There are ten user selectable macros that control various aspects of the system. START – Click this macro button to start the system running, the operational status can be viewed in the System Status Display (re point 3 above). Although the countdown timer and live prices may be operational no bets will be placed while the system is not running. It is important to ensure the system is always in running mode for bets to be placed. STOP – Click this macro button to stop the system running and bets from being placed. Once stopped the system will continue to countdown and change races but no bets will be placed. To reactivate the system just click the START button. LOAD – Click this button and follow the instructions to locate and load the daily data update file. This file is generally available by 8pm the evening before racing. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 11 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 To obtain the file just login to the website and click on the download button and save it to your desktop or other suitable location where it can be easily accessed. The load button process should be run daily before the start of racing. RESET – Click Reset to partially or fully reset the system. A partial reset clears down current configuration variables and all bets within the current betting cycle but does not erase the completed betting history. A full reset clears down everything and restores the “factory” default settings. To operate click the button and follow the options provided. CLEAR – The “Clear” button should only be used to reset an open Betting Cycle if the “Reset” function fails to do so. This can be necessary if an incorrect setup or disconnection with Gruss Betting assistant causes a problem with the display of the bets in the Current Betting Cycle. S BOX – Use this button to configure the Win and Place markets to use the core RaceXpert Selection Box feature as the source of all selections. This is the default setting for the system and is also automatically selected when using the “Reset” function. The Selection Box is the method used to generate the system results achieved during the testing. When using the Selection Box selections, the source identification displays above the win and place market bets are coloured green. RX1 – Use this button to configure the Win and Place markets to use the new RX1 top rated selection. This is a powerful winner finding rating that delivers winners across a wide spectrum of starting prices. When using RX1 as the selection source the source identification displays above the win and place market bets are coloured light blue. MIX – Use this button to configure the Win market to use the Selection Box as the source of selections and the Place market to use the RX1 top rated selection. When using this mode of operation, it is important to note that different selections may be made for both the win and place markets. EOD – The “EOD” button (End Of Day) is used when racing is finished and there is an unfinished betting cycle showing a loss. The EOD will clear down the open cycle bets and post them to the results history tab and also register the associated loss in the Completed Betting Cycles table. A new betting cycle will then be started automatically with the first race the following day. There is NO NEED to run the EOD process if the result of the last race puts the betting cycle into profit. In this case the EOD is carried out automatically as part of the cycle reset process. Before running the EOD process please ensure the system is still connected to Gruss Betting Assistant and that there are no results outstanding. SAVE – Use this button as a quick and easy way to save your Bank Builder system using it’s current file name. It is the recommended way to save your system. To operate and use any of the above macro functions, just left click once on the associated button when Bank Builder is active. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 12 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 Section 2: Active Betting Cycle This displays all bets in the win and place markets and their results within the current betting cycle. The number of bets within a betting cycle is controlled by the staking strategy and this is cover in greater detail later in this document. 1. Selection Source ID – This displays the selection source being used by the system. There are only two sources, Selection Box and RX1 Top Rated. If using the Selection Box, the display is coloured green and light blue when using the RX1 rating. 2. Market Net Profit and Loss – Displays the net profit or loss (PNL) of all bets within the current betting cycle. A separate figure is shown for the win and place markets. 3. Bet Information – Displays the name of each selection backed together with the stake, the price matched and the amount won or lost. When the net sum of the PNL of both win and place markets shows a profit, the betting cycle is deemed to be completed and the associated profit or loss is posted to the Completed Betting Cycle display. In addition, the list of all bets in that particular cycle are transferred to the Results History tab and a new betting cycle is commenced. The betting cycle will also be reset after a minimum of eleven bets even if the net position is a loss. This process is necessary to limit a losing sequence of bets during a bad period of results. Please note that all results must be “in” before a betting cycle can be reset. A reset cannot happen when there are any outstanding results. There can be a number of outstanding results when running the system with the O/R Results (Override Results) option selected and this in turn can lead to a current betting cycle in excess of the eleven race minimum. Section 3: Completed Betting Cycles Display This displays the details of all completed betting cycles including the time and date of completion and the associated profit or loss of the cycle. The total PNL of all completed betting cycles is shown above the display. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 13 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 Results History A full history of all bets from completed betting cycles in both the win and place markets can be viewed by clicking on the Results History tab. Bank Builder Staking Strategy The staking strategy is proprietary and designed to maximise the profit potential of RBB in an efficient and risk adverse manner. The strategy operates using an initial bet equal to the value of the stake entered and a further period of up to ten bets at variable lower stakes. Once a profit has been achieved or the maximum number of bets has been reached, then the betting cycle is reset and any associated profit or loss posted to the completed betting display and historic results. All bets by default are placed in the Betfair Win market of the race being processed but if required bets can also be placed in the place market. The maximum stake used in the win market will never exceed the value of the staking amount entered into the system although the maximum stake in the place market can be up to twice the stake entered but never greater and quite frequently less. This represents an extremely efficient and risk adverse staking mechanism as it will ensure stakes are minimised during a run of losing bets but maximised during a run of consecutive winners. By default, the core operation of the staking plan requires that all previous results are known before a new stake is calculated and to operate in this manner the override option should be un-ticked. However, the recommended method of using the system is to run it with the results override mode ticked as this will ensure a bet is made on each selection irrespective of there being any outstanding results or not. In this mode however the operation of the staking plan is slightly different and the level of each stake is adjusted using a proprietary algorithm which is designed to take advantage of the associated strike rate of the system’s selection strategy. Some Important Notes on Staking Saturdays are notorious for high volume competitive racing with races generally timed to go off within minutes of each other. This in the past has proven to be difficult for Bank Builder to operate within due to the associated large number of undeclared results that can be outstanding at any RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 14 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 time. Having a large number of outstanding results does not lend itself well to the inherent staking strategy in the system and as a result Bank Builder can considerably “Over stake” in these situations. This is an even greater issue with the current version (rev 3050) which extends the staking and betting capability to the place market. Under normal circumstances the maximum stake when using the additional place betting option within this version can be up to three times the entered staking amount. As a result, we would strongly advise that when using the place betting component of the system the staking amount entered should not be greater than 1% of your planned operating bank. This advice should also be adhered to on all days (not just Saturdays) as despite excellent selection capability within the system, horses, even at small prices can fail to place and as a result loses can build up quite quickly in these situations. In addition, and as a general recommendation for busy days we would suggest that you consider the following settings that can be used to be more selective on busy racing days. 1. Untick the results override box so that bets will not be made when any results are outstanding – thus allowing the staking strategy to work as originally designed. 2. Increase the min price filter of selections (default is 1.10). This can be used to stop bets on selections as high as 2.5 (6/4) 3. Reduce the maximum runner filter (default is 50 runners). This can be lowered down to as low as 7 but a setting of between 12 and 16 would be good at filtering out a lot of large competitive races. In summary the above can also be applied to any day’s racing to suit your own personal risk profile however the key advice is that if using the place component of the system your base enter stake should not be greater than 1% of your bank. If not using the place component (win bets only) our original advice of a base stake between 2% and 5% is still appropriate but on busy days it may be prudent to reduce this to 3%. At all times please only stake well within your financial capabilities and always look to achieve long term growth in your betting bank. At the end of Racing At the end of the days racing the End of Day process (EOD) must be run if there is an unfinished current betting cycle. When the EOD process has finished, disconnect from Gruss Betting Assistant then save and close your Bank Builder spreadsheet. The correct way to disconnect from Gruss is to go the Gruss main screen and use the “Excel / Disconnect Log Current Prices” option for both the Win and Place market tabs. When saving and closing the Bank Builder Spreadsheet use the SAVE macro button or the Excel “Save...” facility then close down the spreadsheet. Do not use the Excel “Save As....” facility. As this can rename the bank builder sheet and you will not be able to connect properly the following morning. RBB User Guide 01/10/2016 – Rev 3050 Page 15 RaceXpert Bank Builder 2016 Daily Update Files Each day we produce an update file for the following day’s racing. This file is generally available via the download link on the website from 8pm the night before racing. To download the daily update file just login to the website and click on the download link. For convenience you should save the update file to your desktop. The best time (but not essential) to load this data into your Bank Builder system is on the morning of the new days racing when all the markets have been formed and are available in Betfair. To do this first ensure Bank builder and/or Excel is NOT running, launch the Gruss Betting Assistant and then click on the “Start Logging” button in the log Multiple Sheets Quick Link facility. This will launch the spreadsheet for you. Once the Bank Builder spreadsheet is running use the “LOAD” macro button to locate, load and install the update. Check that the Bank Builder spreadsheet has been opened and that the countdown timer is operational and there are no N/A errors on the screen. Click the LOAD button and follow the instructions to locate and load the daily update file (ref: point 1 above). Choose your selection source, Selection Box (S BOX), RX Ratings (RX1) or mixture of both (MIX). If you want to run the system in the default mode, just press RESET. The default mode only places bets in the win market using the Selection Box as source and is the basic method deployed in earlier releases of the system. It also configures the system with the settings that were used to generate the profits achieved during the testing period. Check your stake, take profit and stop loss are all at the desired amounts. Decide if you want to place bets in the place market and tick this option if so required. Click the START button At the end of racing and BEFORE disconnecting the bank builder spreadsheet from Gruss Betting Assistant, run the EOD feature to terminate any non-finished current betting cycles Click the STOP button Disconnect bank builder from Gruss by going to the Gruss main screen and use the “Excel / Disconnect Log Current Prices” option for both the Win and Place market tabs.
