What ever happened to the lazy days of summer? It’s been anything but lazy!
And after a busy but successful 40th Rod Run, I am sure you are all feeling
the same way. First, our Prez is pretty busy this month and said he will have
a Prez Sez for next month’s newsletter. Second, my apologies for a late
newsletter this month. On top of a very busy summer, I had some technical
difficulties with submitting this month’s newsletter. I am pretty sure it was
user error, and honestly I was so mad I had to walk away from the computer
a bit. Finally, I know you all have been attending car shows, parades and
taking cruises! Where are your pictures and stories????? Please submit for
me to share, we all want to see what kind of car fun you’ve been up to this
summer! You can email them to Mindyj@smwireless.net, text them to 509797-5207, mail them to PO Box 1536, Mattawa 99349 or give them to me or
John at a meeting. I’m not picky how I receive them, I’ll just be happy to
get something. Hope you all are having a wonderful summer!

July Meeting Minutes
Stef Apperson, Vintiques Club Secretary, contributed the following for this
month’s newsletter:
I wanted to share the highlights from our July 3rd club meeting for all to see.
The club welcomed new members Randy Carter and Al Brown. In addition, the
club welcomed Lisa Wallace from Voices for Children.
Brian Maybee brought mugs and John Uceny brought shirts commemorating our
40th Rod Run to the meeting. Each item costs $10.00. Famous Daves has provided
door prizes. If you need sponsor paperwork please get a hold of Scott. Brian
happily reported that we have 295 preregistered cars and many vendors so far.
Make sure you attend the July Rod Run meeting!
The Charitable Donations Committee presented an appreciative Lisa Wallace with
a check to help the Voices for Children organization. In addition, the committee
reported on the recent Cruise for Wishes. There were 66 total vehicles, and
Vintiques had the most cars (19) of all the clubs. Our club was also the biggest
contributor and Gene’s patrol car won an award. The local TV news covered the
event and showed Paul’s Coupe. They gave kudos to us!
Flowers were sent to Dave Stahl after he had a stroke. He is currently at Parkside
in Union Gap.
Scott Pool told us about the Sun Fair Parade on September 20th.
The Sponsor Dinner will be November 15th at the Yakima Valley Hotel and
Convention Center. Vintiques room rates are $66.00 and going fast. Call 509-2487850 to make your reservation before all the rooms get booked.
Cruise night was a big success and well attended. In addition Vintiques members
Don McIntire and Dick & Maria Elliot won trophies at the recent Toppenish show.
John Uceny has some older merchandise and questioned if could sell it for
charitable donations.
Congratulations to Scott Pool for winning the $28.00 50/50 raffle!

Road trip review, Colorado or Bust!

On Monday morning, June 23rd a group of us met at a gas station in Sunnyside and set out
for a 2 week power road tour to the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Pueblo, Colorado. Mike
and Kim Morris with their ’37 Ford, Ralph and Judy Mizell with their ‘47 Pick up, Tom
Bilyeu with his ’32 Ford and John and I in our ‘30 Ford headed south towards Pendleton,
Oregon. Dennis & Shelly Cornish in their ’38 Chevy were already on their way and
meeting up with us in Boise.
First stop was an early lunch in Pendleton, Oregon at Elvis’s Bar and Grill owned by
Vintiques members Elvis and Ron Llamar. If you are looking for a place to take a little
cruise one day and enjoy a delicious lunch, this is the place to go. With décor that car
enthusiasts love, good food and great service, you will not be disappointed.
After a yummy lunch and a fun visit, we were on the road again traveling south on I-84
towards Nampa, Idaho. It is a fun drive when your view is a sweet ’37 Ford.
We made it to the final stop of the day at Charlie Hutton’s Color Studio in Nampa, Idaho.
Charlie Hutton is well known for his work on custom street rods. He has won 2 Ridler
awards, several awards for Street Rod of the Year and Custom Rod of the Year. He is also
known for his work with the late Boyd Coddington and was part of Boyd’s American Hot
Rod show on the Discovery Channel among other TV shows such as Over Haulin’ and Hot
Rod TV. Charlie was very hospitable visiting, answering questions and taking
photographs with us. His shop was immaculate and his crew of 4 was small but hard
working and friendly. We were able to see his current Ridler project in the works,
unfortunately due to the rules of submitting a project, photographs are not permitted.
Somehow it kind of made us feel a little extra special getting to witness this secret work in
progress. Some of the projects in his shop were an original Shelby Cobra which was the
first Cobra sold to the public and raced by Carol Shelby himself. Also a 1965 Ferrari
restoration project owned by the same person. Charlie is a really down to earth guy who
loves what he does. One of his quotes to us was, “I am just a car guy, I suck at business.”
After our tour we had dinner at a little 50’s diner. Then it was off to our hotel to rest up for
another day of touring rod shops and cruising.
Goody Bag Stuffing and Barbecue –

Jenny Davenport reported they had 45 people show up to
stuff goodie bags and would like to give a really big
thank you to all who came and helped. She also gives a
big thank you to Joel from state farm for the fans.
They were a great hit and a big thank you to Famous
Daves. They gave us 750 individual goodie bags with
coupons, menus, their list of beers and every bag had a
can koozie, key chain or beach ball. They also donated
6 big gift baskets for door prizes!

T-Bucket
Regionals
The T-Bucket Regional's will be in Yakima this year. Their host motel is Best Western in
Union Gap, and they are having a car show at Sea Galley on Saturday, August 23rd from 2
to 4 PM. They are having a poker run to the wineries in the Zillah area and have asked if
we could man the poker stops. We will need to have someone with a hot rod or classic car
at each stop so the participants will know who to look for to draw a card.

Harleys and Wednesday Night Cruise Ins! How about another
Vintiques Night at Hot Rods and Harleys on August 29th? Lets
make it simple and meet up there!
Upcoming Activities:
Next month Shane & Angie Zerr will host our post rod run
barbecue. Details will be included in next month’s newsletter and
meeting. Also, as car shows are winding down a bit, we will be
having some more club activities. Please attend out meetings for
updates and to help those out who are working to organize all the
fun stuff we are trying to do. As always, if you have an idea that
you think will be lots of fun, please share!
