Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcasting service, started more than 50 years ago as a radio broadcaster and has since grown into a multimedia enterprise that embraces the latest digital technologies. DW-TV, DW-RADIO and the online service DW-WORLD.DE produce globally accessible information programming in 30 different languages provided by a skilled staff of some 1,500 people from more than 60 countries. DW-TV programming is broadcast world-wide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in German, English, Spanish and Arabic. It serves the world with news and current affairs from Germany, Europe and the world. With its objective and modern reports as well as magazine shows, DW-TV offers insights into politics and business, sports and the arts, science, lifestyle and travel, which makes for compelling viewing. For DW-TV background information belongs in the foreground, thus helping viewers to make sense of events. DW-TV programming is beamed across five continents via a global satellite network. Cable services and other broadcasters provide further distribution. It addresses an international audience, focussing on people with an interest in Germany and Europe, particularly opinion-shapers and decision-makers, as well as people interested in the German language and Germans living abroad. These programmes are shown in cooperation with Germany’s two other public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF. DW-TV ASIEN and ASIEN+ These channels have been broadcast since March 2009.
