Below are some of the opportunities we’ve created: Annual Convention Student Track At our 101st Annual Convention we are excited to offer a veterinary student track. This track offers CE courses and labs tailored to veterinary students that builds their knowledge and develops their skills as they become veterinarian. (Sponsorship Available) Student Networking Dinner - March 9, 2016 in Oregon, WI Veterinary students spend an evening at a local veterinary clinic to network with staff veterinarians. This gives students a great forum to ask questions about procedures, culture and products. (Sponsorship Available) Student Day (Off-Campus Event) Veterinary Student Day is an off-campus event hosted by the WVMA, in spring 2016, which cover an array of scientific and non-scientific topics that students want to understand as continue to work toward starting their career. Each topic is guided by an expert in their field. This is a great opportunity to educate student about products and services you offer. (Sponsorship Available) Student Resume Book Student resumes are compiled in one concise book that details students’ experience and the opportunities they are seeking. ($500) Vets to Vet School The WVMA hosts talks each semester at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School of Medicine where a local veterinarian gives guidance and educates veterinary students on topics in and outside the classroom. (Sponsorship Available) We welcome ideas that you, our sponsor, may have as we continue to develop educational opportunities. 7 INTEGRITY. COMPASSION. Food Armor® HACCP Program and Training In 2009, Wisconsin had the nation’s highest level of violative tissue residues in dairy cull cattle. Dairy producers and veterinarians were targeted as the primary source of the problem, and there was a call for increased state regulation to deal with the issue. However, the WVMA chose to approach the problem differently and created the WVMA Residue Task Force, a group of veterinarians focused on developing a non-regulatory solution to the dairy beef residue issue. In the years since, the WVMA has trained veterinarians and producers how to implement Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans for proper drug use on dairy farms across the nation. ® The original HACCP plan for proper drug use has evolved into a farm certification program called Food Armor®. The following goals were set for the new program: 1) Develop a non-regulatory risk management tool that facilitates implementation of HACCP plans for proper drug use on farms. 2) Support local veterinarians’ on-farm efforts in the area of proper drug use. 3) Maintain and grow consumer and regulatory confidence in the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). In the Food Armor® program, farms voluntarily participate to minimize drug risks and may be certified when they can demonstrate full implementation and maintenance of a six-section HACCP plan for proper drug use. The only individuals that may grant Food Armor® certification to farms are Food Armor® Accredited Veterinarians, those that have completed Phase I and Phase II training workshops provided by the WVMA Food Armor® program. Becoming accredited in the Food Armor® program will empower veterinarians to work with farms to minimize drug risks, implement treatment protocols, and improve record-keeping. The WVMA has added a Food Armor® Outreach Specialist Veterinarian to help support and continue to grow the Food Armor® Program. Under her direction, the program has trained 475 veterinarians and conducted Phase I and Phase II trainings in 19 states including California, New York and Pennsylvania. This year, so far, four more states are seeking Food Armor® training. The WVMA needs your support to continue the success of Food Armor® and continue to improve drug use on farms. Help us build more than just a program. If you feel as strongly as we do about impacting the future of veterinary medicine and proper drug use, support Food Armor®’s vision by being a sponsor. Become a partner. Food Armor® Sponsorship Support the Food Armor® program by becoming a sponsor and help to achieve the goals set forth. (Sponsorship Available) Veterinary Student Food Armor® Program Sponsorship This program brings Food Armor® Phase I training directly to the future of veterinary medicine. Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Foundation 2016 Sponsorship Opportunites WISCONSIN VETERINARY MEDICAL FOUNDATION helping animals through people 9 COMMUNITY. WELL-BEING. WISCONSIN VETERINARY MEDICAL Foundation Opportunities FOUNDATION helping animals through people In its third year, the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax deductible organization, continues to develop new programs and events to follow its mission of ensuring the health and safety of animals through people. We look to provide settings and platforms where veterinarians, veterinary students and the general public can come together to learn and grow. Helping animals through people. Connecting with Students, Youth and General Public One focus is to grow youth programs that allow veterinarians and veterinary students to engage in teaching opportunities with Wisconsin’s youth and potential future veterinarians. In empowering our membership comes the opportunity to provide funding for educational mission projects. Endowments are a great way to start building tomorrow today. We ask that you consider a long term investment for the future of veterinary medicine and consider an endowment. Students of veterinary medicine are the immediate future, but they are also mentors to future generations. Their ideas carry great weight and their ambition holds that weight. The foundation is a great incubator for those youthful, community driven ideas. As a sponsor, your support can help bring those ideas into action. (Sponsorship Available) Disaster Planning We also focus on crisis preparedness. Disaster planning is crucial to Wisconsin and the nation. We strive to develop strategies and tools to help our local veterinarians, producers and local fire and police departments. We need to build better stronger strategies and tool kits for local stakeholders and your help as a foundation sponsor will make this possible. We believe that the state of Wisconsin should be prepared and equipped appropriately at all times for disasters. Your support can help herds, producers, pets and families minimize the impact a disaster can have on a community. If you believe strongly in disaster planning and crisis management, contact the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Foundation. (Sponsorship Available) Pet Hall of Fame In its 22nd year, the Wisconsin Pet Hall of Fame celebrates pets that exemplify the affection, loyalty, and value of the human-animal bond. Each year the WVMF honors this special relationship in three categories: professional, companion and hero. Inductees have contributed immensely to the lives of their owners and their communities. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a very special celebration where veterinarians and the general public come together. A great opportunity to reach a targeted audience. Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association 2016 VetMed PAC Opportunites 11 VetMed PAC Opportunities The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association Political Action Committee (PAC) was established to advocate and promote veterinary medicine, while enriching animal and human health through personal voluntary contributions in support of candidates for state public office who have demonstrated support for veterinary medicine as well as small business. As veterinarians, and those with a vested interest in veterinary medicine, our future success depends on our ability to evaluate and respond to the changing needs and expectations of the society we serve. Legislative policies shape our ability to practice veterinary medicine and impact the businesses you own and work for. Decisions increasingly influence: • Regulation and scope of practice • Animal welfare • Licensing and unlicensed practice • Public health • Business operations including employment and tax laws • Food safety The role of the WVMA in state regulatory and policy creation and monitoring is critical. The VETMED PAC enhances this advocacy by supporting candidates for state office who support veterinary issues or who are willing to listen and consider our viewpoints. The VETMED PAC will assist with educational efforts directed at policymakers on the responsibilities of veterinarians in the fields of public health, animal health and wellbeing, as well as food safety. Through VETMED PAC, veterinarians and others are able to help the candidates who impact the veterinary profession. It allows individuals to have a voice that reaches the state level. By gathering the support of many, individual voices are amplified, creating a collective force that politicians recognize and respect. Contributions to the WVMA VetMed PAC Contributions must be made on a voluntary basis from a personal account. Contributions cannot be made from corporate or business accounts. Contributions from both members and non-WVMA members are accepted. All personal voluntary contributions will be deposited in a separate PAC fund. Support the VETMED PAC. It’s your profession, your livelihood and your future. It’s your voice. AMPLIFIED.
