MORNINGTON PENINSULA V I C TORIA • AU S TRALIA seaside camping Right beside the sparkling sea, Just over the road from friendly villages 1000+ beachfront caravan and camp sites www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org Right beside the sparkling sea, Just over the road from friendly villages The Mornington Peninsula has some of Victoria’s most beautiful beaches, with white sandy bays, shallow waters for kids, top fishing spots and lots of aquatic activities. Best of all, three of these beaches are renowned in the caravan and camping world for their foreshore camping reserves and a wonderful sense of family and community spirit that goes back more than 70 years. The views of the water just a few metres away at Rosebud, Rye and Sorrento are million dollar – but the camping rates are very reasonable. The facilities are excellent (just bring your own tent or caravan), and right over the road are coastal villages with supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, sports and fishing gear suppliers and more. The reserves are very well managed and maintained by the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, so you’re assured of quality camping. And if you come off-peak, you can book great-value camping packages. Making the most of your visit To plan your stay, check www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org and order a copy of the Official Visitor Guide, call into the Mornington Peninsula Visitor Information Centre at 359B Point Nepean Road Dromana, Victoria For more information call 1800 804 009 or 03 5987 3078 Foreshore camping locations Rosebud RYE sorrento The largest of our three camping reserves, Rosebud’s camping sites stretch 10km along the sparkling water to the seaside village of McCrae. Facilities include shower and toilet blocks, grassy areas shaded by large trees, kids’ play areas, barbecues, boat launching ramps close by and the extensive shopping of Rosebud just over the road. There are 812 camping sites. Just a little further along the coast, the Rye reserve has a prime position along 2km of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, with 174 sites. Facilities include shower and toilet blocks, grassy areas shaded by large trees, kids’ play areas, barbecues, boat launching ramps close by and Rye village just over the road. Sorrento is recommended if you like a smaller camping ground, as it’s just 1km in length along the beach with 147 sites. The sophisticated village of Sorrento is only a short drive away, as is the Sorrento to Queenscliff ferry which crosses Port Phillip Bay to the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road. Camping facilities include shower and toilet blocks, grassy areas shaded by large trees and MELBOURNE boat launching ramps close by. e urn lbo Me To 13km of camping along beautiful bay beaches Mornington Peninsula Foreshore Camping Seaford Cranbourne Langwarrin AUSTRALIA Mount Eliza Baxter Moorooduc MELBOURNE Queenscliff Mount Martha PORT PHILLIP Point Nepean MELBOURNE Tuerong Dromana Sorrento Bittern McCrae Rosebud Blairgowrie Arthurs Seat Rye Tootgarook Balnarring Red Hill Fingal BASS STRAIT FRENCH ISLAND Crib Point Merricks Main Ridge Somers Boneo Cape Schanck Point Leo Shoreham Cowes PHILLIP ISLAND Rosebud Rye 812 Sites 85 Sites WESTERN PO Tyabb Safety Beach Portsea Flinders 5 1 Sites Pearcedale Mornington VICTORIA MORNINGTON PENINSULA 96 Sites This way to Yarra Valley Dandenong R Frankston PORT PHILLIP Sorrento Dandenong 89 Sites Sorrento West Seaside Camping Sorrento East Seaside Camping Rye West Seaside Camping Rye East Seaside Camping Rosebud Seaside Camping www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org Camping Information The best times to book for good weather and low prices are early Spring/Summer (November to mid December) and late Summer/Autumn (February to the end of April). You can drive from top to toe of the Peninsula in about 30 minutes, and from coast to coast in about 10 minutes. So all these attractions are within very easy reach. Beaches Fishing You’re camping right beside the best of them, but if you’d like a change of sea air, just drive to the Bass Strait coastline or the Western Port Bay beaches. Beach horse riding can be booked along the Bass Strait coastline. They always seem to be biting! Bring your own boat, bring your tackle and fish off the piers at Rosebud, Rye, Sorrento and Dromana, or book a fishing trip. markets Food and Wine Some of Australia’s finest wines are produced right here. There are more than 50 cellar doors, many winery restaurants, great cafes right along the coast and lots of food producers dotted throughout the Hinterland. Market shopping unearths all sorts of treasures… new and vintage clothing, kids’ wares, art and craft, fresh local fruit and vegetables and artisan gourmet produce. Try Red Hill Market (first Saturday of the month, September to May) and Mornington Racecourse Market (second Sunday, year round). Water sports You name it, it’s probably here. Swimming with dolphins and seals, sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, bay cruises, snorkelling, scuba diving and more. And if it’s warm water you like, try relaxing in our naturally heated mineral water springs. Parks, Gardens and wildlife There are peaceful bush walks through our national parks and state reserves, and through gorgeous gardens featuring historic mansions, massed roses, hills of lavender, woodlands and water features. You can see kangaroos and wallabies in the wild, or visit our wildlife sanctuary and handfeed the cute wallabies. Golf We have 15 clubs with 19 links, parkland and resort courses, ranging from social to championship. www.visitmorningtonpeninsula.org Foreshore Camping site Maps The maps on the following pages illustrate the location of the campsites at each of the three foreshore reserves.
