ITINERARY
• Day 1 − Welcome to Shanghai
You are met upon arrival at the airport in Shanghai by a Palace Tours representative and transferred to your hotel where
you may spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing prior to the exciting journey that lies ahead!
• Day 2 − Explore "Paris of the East"
Embark on a full day tour of Shanghai, starting with a visit to the Yuyuan Garden, which is a small but beautiful garden
with 400 years of history. Browse the Chenghuangmiao Bazaar, full of local crafts, and then visit the Jade Buddha
Temple to admire the white jade Sakyamuni Buddha statues. After lunch, continue to the Shanghai Museum which has
an impressive collection of Chinese crafts, furniture, paintings and more. Your tour culminates with a stop at the Bund to
view the city skyline and its 1930's era European architecture. This evening, enjoy the amazing Shanghai Acrobatics
Show and return to your hotel for an overnight stay. (B, L, D)
• Day 3 − Welcome to the picturesque city of Guilin
Take a morning flight to Guilin where you are met upon arrival and transferred to your next hotel. The rest of the day is
yours at leisure to explore this beautiful and fascinating city. (B)
• Day 4 − A relaxing cruise on the Li River
This morning after breakfast, hop aboard the Li River Cruise for a relaxing trip on the Li River, regarded as the soul of
Guilin. Enjoy lunch on board the cruise and arrive in Yangshuo. Here you may enjoy browsing the local market on West
Street before you are transferred back to your hotel in Guilin. (B, L)
• Day 5 − The awe−inspring scenery of Guilin
Today, begin your tour of the natural wonders of Guilin first with a visit to the Elephant Trunk Hill, so named because it
bears a striking resemblance to an elephant dipping its trunk into the river. Your next stop is the Reed Flute Cave, which
was formed 600,000 years ago by a cave river and is famous for its beautiful speleothems. Visit the Fubo Hill, a landmark

of Guilin, before taking an early evening flight to Kunming. You are met upon arrival and transferred to the hotel for an
overnight stay. (B, L)
• Day 6 − Explore Shilin Stone Forest
This morning, transfer to Shilin in Yunnan province to spend the entire afternoon exploring the Stone Forest, a geopark of
karst rock formations resembling huge stalagmites. The formations, which cover a staggering area of 96,000 square
acres, are believed to be around 270 million years old. (B, L)
• Day 7 − Dali's Three Pagodas and Erhai Lake cruise
Board your early morning flight to Dali and transfer to the hotel for check−in. Later, visit the Three Pagodas which are
located at the foot of the Cangshan Mountains and collectively are some of the most famous Buddhist pagodas in all of
China. Enjoy a cruise on the beautiful alpine Erhai Lake and later, visit Dali's Old Town. (B, L, D)
• Day 8 − Travel to Lijiang via the Xizhou Bai village
This morning, begin the drive to Lijiang, visiting Xizhou Bai village en route. Here, you can see the traditional Bai
architecture and visit the local market. Arrive in Lijang where the afternoon is yours at leisure to explore the Lijiang Old
Town and observe its brilliant culture. (B)
• Day 9 − The serenity and culture of Lijiang
Embark on a half day tour beginning with a trip to the Black Dragon Pond Park followed by a chair−lift up the Jade
Dragon Snow Mountain to Yunshanping Meadow. The mountain towers at 5596 meters above sea level and remains
snow−capped year round. Enjoy an evening excursion to the Naxi Orchestra where you may appreciate the oldest and
most authentic local art. (B, L)
• Day 10 − Fly to Xi'an and spend your day at leisure
Take the morning flight to Xi'an where you are met upon arrival and transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for
individual activity. (B)
• Day 11 − Discover the Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an
This morning after breakfast, visit the famous Terracotta Warriors, an army of over 6,000 life−sized men, horses and
chariots buried as a part of Emperor Qin's tomb over 2,000 years ago. After lunch, visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum
which includes a vast collection of artifacts, some dating back over 20,000 years. In the evening, enjoy a Dumpling
Banquet and the Tang Dynasty Show, popular for its fantastic customs, pleasant music and dancing. (B, L, D)
• Day 12 − Individual exploration of Beijing
Board your mid−day flight to Beijing, where you are met upon arrival and transferred to the hotel. Spend the rest of your
day at leisure exploring this bustling town or simply relax at the hotel, enjoying the many facilities it has to offer. (B)

• Day 13 − Full day tour of Beijing's Forbidden City and Summer Palace
This morning after breakfast, embark on a full day tour of Beijing, starting with a visit to Tian’anmen Square, the
largest public square in the world. Then enter the Forbidden City, the Imperial palace for 24 emperors in Ming and Qing
Dynasties. After lunch, visit the famous Summer Palace, which contains classical Chinese gardens set against a
stunning lake and mountain landscape. The Summer Palace served as a summer retreat for the Empress Dowager CiXi.

• Day 14 − The Great Wall of China and Ming Tombs
Begin your day with a private coach tour to the amazing Great Wall at the picturesque Badaling section. The only
man−made structure that can be seen from outer space, the Great Wall runs 5,000 kms from the east to west of China.
Later this afternoon, visit the Ming Tombs and Sacred Way, where 24 Ming Emperors were buried. This evening, enjoy
delicious authentic Chinese cuisine at a Peking Duck dinner. (B, L, D)
• Day 15 − Palace of peace and harmony
Enjoy a morning tour to the Yonghe Temple, also known as the Lama Temple, which is one of the largest and most
famous Buddhist monasteries in the world. This afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven, where emperors in the Ming and
Qing dynasties worshipped for a good harvest. Enjoy the authentic local art at a Peking Opera performance later this
evening and return to your hotel your last overnight stay in Beijing. (B)
• Day 16 − Farewell, Beijing
Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your departure flight home or to your next exotic destination. (B)
DESTINATION INFORMATION
• Beijing
Beijing is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, formerly known as Peking. Beijing is China's second
largest city in terms of population, after Shanghai. It is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and
expressways passing through the city, also the focal point of many international flights to China. Beijing is recognized
as the political, educational and cultural center of the PRC. The most important tourist site of Beijing is The
Tian'anmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace), both by itself and as the main entrance to the Forbidden City. Other
world−renowned sites include the Badaling section of the Great Wall of China, the Summer Palace, and the Temple
of Heaven.

• Dali
Dali is famous for the many types of marble it produces, which are used primarily in construction and for decorative
objects. The city is now a major tourist destination, along with Lijiang, for tourists from both within and outside China.
Dali is one of Yunnan's most popular tourist destinations, both for its historic sites and the "Foreigner's Street" that
features western−style food, music, and English−speaking business owners, making it popular among both western
and Chinese tourists.
• Guillin
Its name means "forest of Sweet Osmanthus", owing to the large number of fragrant Sweet Osmanthus trees located
in the city. Its scenery is reputed by many Chinese to be the "finest under heaven". It has many attractions such as
Reed Flute Cave, Reed Flute Park, some of Guilin's best scenery The Jingjiang Princes City is a royal complex dating
from the Ming Dynasty that lies near the center of modern Guilin.
• Kunming
The capital of Yunnan Province located in the far southwestern corner of China. Its proximity to other neighboring
provinces such as Guizhou, Sichuan, and Tibet as well as its shared border with Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam make
it one of the most popular holiday destinations in China. Known as the "Spring City," Kunming boasts some of the
best weather in China with a consistently pleasant climate and some of the freshest and cleanest air of any major city
in the country. Kunming also offers excellent cuisine and shopping opportunities, and an array of historical and
cultural attractions.
• Lijiang
Lijiang City is comprised of the new town and the old town. Any traveler coming to Lijiang is almost always coming to
visit the old town. Lijiang is also home to the Jade Water Village, a Dongba cultural centre and Lashi Lake, a lake
which is a tourist attraction. The Lijiang old town has a history going back more than 800 years, which was declared a
World Heritage Site in 1998, and was once a confluence for trade along the old tea horse road. The Lijiang old town is

famous for its orderly system of waterways and bridges. It has been called the "Venice of the East".
• Shanghai
Situated on the banks of the Yangtze River Delta in East China, is the largest city of the PRC and the ninth largest in
the world. Widely regarded as the citadel of China's modern economy, Shanghai also is one of the world's busiest
ports, and became the largest cargo port in the world in 2005. Shanghai once became the third largest financial
centre in the world, ranking after London and New York City. The tallest structure in China, the Oriental Pearl Tower,
is located in Shanghai. The Jin Mao tower located nearby is mainland China's tallest skyscraper, and ranks fifth in the
world.
• Xi'an
As one of the most important cities in Chinese history, Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. The
city is best known for being the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and for the location of the Terracotta Army from Qin
Dynasty. The city has more than 3,100 years of history; it was called Chang'an in ancient times. Since 1990s, as part
of the economic revival of interior China, in addition to a history of manufacturing and solid industrial establishments,
Xi'an has become an important cultural, industrial and educational center of the northwest, with facilities for research
and development, national security and China's space exploration program.
• Xizhou Bai Village
Xizhou Bai Minority Village a photogenic village 20km north of Dali, where Bai minority people are living and where
you can get some ideas of the Bai’s flair for architecture and elegant living.
• Yangshuo

Yangshuo is a small town in Guilin, and the seat of Yangshuo County. Surrounded by towering karst peaks, bordered
on one side by the Li River, it is easily accessible by bus or by boat from nearby Guilin. Over the years, it has become
extremely popular with foreign backpackers as a place to unwind. Nowadays, it is rare to visit this city without finding
throngs of local and foreign tourists.

Silk Road on Wheels (Eastbound)
Retracing one of the most important trading routes of ancient civilization, this remarkable rail tour on board the Golden
Eagle train and later the Shangri−La Express follows in the footsteps of such legendary figures as Alexander the Great
and Marco Polo.
Crossing both Russia and China as well as some of the remotest former Soviet republics – Kazakstan, Turkmenistan
and Uzbekistan – your journey takes in some of the most magnificent yet seldom−visited sights from the ancient world.
Your Eastbound journey starts in Russia’s capital, Moscow, where you will have plenty of time to explore. Continue
onwards to Volgograd – better known as Stalingrad – where the Soviets turned the course of the Second World War,
before heading to far remoter places that owe their importance to a time much further back in history.
Journey through the Kara Kum desert followed by visits to the amazing 2,500 year−old cities of Khiva and Bukhara –
considered so important by UNESCO that it supported their restoration – as well as Samarkand, the ‘Rome of the
East’. Much admired by Alexander the Great, Samarkand is home to Registan Square, a spectacular open space

Tangula Northern Route: Beijing to Lhasa (Westbound)

What are the passport and visa requirements for entry into China?
A passport that retains its validity for 6 months beyond your departure date from China is required. Please check the visa
requirements with your local Chinese embassy.
What is the range of temperatures in China?
In most areas of China:
Spring is 15−25 degrees Celsius
Summer is 30−37 degrees Celsius
Fall is 15−25 degrees Celsius
Winter is −10−10 degrees Celsius
But in the far south of China, such as Hong Kong and Sanya, winter time is still around 20−30 degrees Celsius. In very
north of China, such as Harbin, winter time is −25 −15 degrees Celsius.

What kind of clothing should I wear for touring?
Casual attire with comfortable walking shoes is fine for touring China. We suggest that you bring one suit of formal
clothing for the formal dinner and performance, if this is included in your itinerary.
Do you have a list of recommended places to dine at, and the type of fare that is served?
There are many restaurants we can recommend on each stop. Your tour guide can give several good suggestions
according to your specific tastes and budget.
What is the type of transportation utilized for sightseeing tours?
All transport is by private air−conditioned vehicle. We use a car if the group size is 1−2 passengers, a van for 3−5
passengers, and different buses for groups more than 6 passengers.
If I arrive early, are there any activities available for me that I wouldn’t see on the regular sightseeing starting
the following day?
If you wish, we can arrange additional activities which are not included in the program, at an additional cost. Our local
guide can give you a recommendation, and the price will vary depending on what is included in the optional tour and how
many clients will join it.
Can I take pictures of people and monuments? Is there a camera fee?
Most of the monuments and sights allow for picture taking without a camera fee. The guide will warn you in advance if
there are any restrictions for taking pictures. Before taking pictures of people, it is advised to ask for their permission.
Will I be able to communicate with the locals using the English language?
Many of the younger locals in China can speak simple English, but not the ones in middle age and elder age, especially in
smaller cities.
Where can I exchange currency?
We suggest that currency exchange be done in the hotel with a travelers check, because the exchange rate is the same
as with the bank. Exchanging in the hotel is safer and more convenient, but in Hong Kong, it is recommended to go to the
Exchange Bureau instead.
Is tipping a common practice in China? Who do I tip?
Tipping is a source of income for the tour industry staff. In China, it is customary to tip the guide, driver and bellboy.
If I bring my children, is there a child care service that is offered?

Unfortunately, we do not offer a child care service; however we can request a baby cot from the hotel if there is any, and
request the proper type of car. Please inquire about our child policy and child rates at the time of booking.
What kind of hotels do you use?
We use the best properties available in each location. Please see the "Accommodation" tab for this tour in order to see
the list of hotels used.
Can accommodations be made for those passengers with physical challenges (i.e. who require a wheelchair)?
Yes, most of the hotels can offer a wheelchair for the handicapped, often times at an extra charge. Some hotels have
handicap−accessible rooms.
What airlines do you use for domestic flights?
For the domestic flights, we use Air China, China Eastern Airline, China Southern Airline, Hainan Airline, Xiamen Airline
etc, which are owned by the Chinese government and are reputed for their efficiency and safety.
Are doctors available at all times?
In most of the cities and on the Yangtze Cruise, a doctor and hospital are available in close proximity. But in some remote
areas, such as the Silk Road, Tibet or Zhongdian, we can not guarantee that there will be available facilities or doctors.
Do I need to have any vaccinations to be able to take this tour?
There are no special regulations in China that require vaccinations, but it is highly recommended that you consult with
your medical practitioner before taking the tour.

Our office is located on the north side of Route 206 in Princeton, New Jersey. We are in the Research Park office
complex, directly opposite from the Princeton Airport.
From points North:
Via Route 1: Take Route 1 South towards Trenton. After you pass Forrestal Village Campus, you will begin to see signs
for “Downtown Princeton & Shoppingâ€. Turn right on Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for
approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn right on Stockton Street (Route 206 North) & follow
for approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Wall Street.

Via Route 287: Take Route 287 South towards Somerville. Take exit 17 for Route 206 South (Somerville). You will pass
through a traffic circle – follow signs for Route 206 South. Follow Route 206 South for approximately 12 miles. Turn left

Via the Garden State Parkway: Take the Parkway North/South to exit 98 for Route 138 West toward Trenton. Route 138
West becomes Route 195 West. Follow 195 West for approximately 17 miles. Merge onto Route 295 North toward
Trenton. Follow directions below.
Via Route 95/ 295: Take Route 95 North until it becomes Route 295 North toward Trenton. Take exit 67A and merge
onto Route 1 North. Follow Route 1 North for approximately 5 miles. Take the exit for Washington Road. Turn right on
Washington Road. Follow Washington Road for approximately 1.5 miles. Turn left on Nassau Street (Route 27). Turn

By train:
Princeton Junction is the main train station along the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Visitors can
take a cab from here to Princeton or transfer to a one−car train to Princeton called the "Dinky". The train ride takes about
5 minutes, and drops you at University Place across from McCarter Theatre. If you choose this option, be sure to
purchase a rail ticket to “Princeton†for presentation upon boarding the Dinky.
Our office is a 10−minute cab ride from Princeton station (approx. 4.5 miles).
By bus:
Several buses arrive and depart daily from Princeton Research Park (i.e., New Jersey Transit’s 605 Montgomery
Line). From the bus station, walk into the Research Park office complex. We are located at #20 Wall Street.
