Options include a 1-mile Fun Run/Walk beginning at 7:30 a.m., plus a 5K Run/Walk and a 10K Run/Walk both beginning at 8 a.m. All races begin and end on the corner of 2nd and Church streets. The 5K and 10K races are certified by USA Track & Field. A cash prize of $1,500 will be awarded to any runner who sets a new time record for the 10K, and awards are given to the top three finishers in the 5K and 10K in different age brackets. A variety of food (featuring the Vidalia Onion, of course!) will be available as well as activities for the youngsters, including a scavenger hunt. Be sure to get your copy of the “Vidalia Onion Prize Winning Recipes” cookbook. Entertainment includes music from Jerry and Terry Richardson at the pavilion plus special appearances by Yumion and Miss Vidalia Onion 2014. Sponsored by service organizations the Vidalia Woman’s Club and Vidalia Lions Club. Proceeds benefit local charities. Children wishing to ride must have their parent/guardian at the registration tent to sign the required consent form. Multi-genre singer, songwriter and musician Uncle Kracker will headline the concert. His recently released album Midnight Special, produced with Sugar Hill Records, includes the single “Nobody’s Sad on a Saturday Night,” a theme song for a weekend party, which has already hit the airwaves and is being embraced by Country radio. The bands Parmalee (“Carolina”) and Old Dominion (“Dirt On A Road”) will also be performing. Music will begin around 5 p.m. with the winner of the Battle of the Bands. The museum is best-known for its Libby Collection of Staffordshire porcelain, with over 260 pieces and 210 different patterns, and a group of 24 first-edition, hand-colored prints by John James Audubon. Altama exhibits also include a permanent collection of 18th and 19th century European prints, the Aldridge Vintage Clothing Collection, and the Victorian Parlor and Bedroom.
