Leadership Development
Greetings,
Welcome to the Texas DECA State Career Development
Conference in Dallas! Your 68th Texas DECA State Action
Team congratulates you for your hard work and preparation for
competition. It takes immense dedication to compete with other
qualified members from throughout the state, and I encourage
you to continue the positive momentum this week as you aim
to earn a place on stage Friday.
Your experiences these next few days will be revered long
past your high school career, as the lessons learned and skills
developed at State CDC will prepare you for future endeavors.
Whether you are meeting with State Officer candidates or
competing for a chance to meet Mickey Mouse in Orlando,
this is the perfect opportunity for you to expand your horizons,
expand your network, enhance your business etiquette, and
excel in competition by making the most of this conference.
As members from every part of the Lone Star State congregate for this one conference, I encourage
you to step out of your comfort zone to meet other members. The Texas DECA member in the hotel
room across the hall may be a future roommate, friend, or business partner. #TexasDECAis full of
innovative and passionate leaders, so try to connect with as many members as possible.
You’re going to want to capture the memories you make at this conference! Photograph, tweet, and post
your best Texas DECA experiences at this conference using this year’s state theme, #TexasDECAis.
Simply add an adjective after the hashtag and you are sharing your experiences with members and
friends back at home. For examples on how to use the hashtag, be sure to follow @TexasDECA on all
social media platforms - your post might even be retweeted or reposted by Texas DECA! Whether it is
a post-competition victory dance or a picture of the Opening Session, use social media to show friends
at home what a positive and powerful experience DECA can be.
Ultimately, this conference could not be a success without the dedication and countless hours of effort
given by our advisors and other volunteers. Texas DECA owes its success to everyone who continues
to work towards improving our organization. Always be courteous towards an advisor and be sure to
thank them for their service.
The State Officer Team is honored to welcome such hardworking and enthusiastic members.
#TexasDECAis energized for the 2015 State Career Development Conference. Enjoy your experience
and we hope to see you in Orlando!
In Leadership,
Empowerment

General Conference Info
CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES – All General Sessions
and Conference Activities will be held at the
Sheraton Hotel. Refer to the schedule portion of this
program for times and locations.
REGISTRATION – All students and adult delegates
must register for the conference. The chapter
advisor must register their chapter delegates.
NAME BADGE – Your conference name badge
is your passport to all activities and functions of
the conference. All registered delegates must
wear their name badge at all times except in their
hotel sleeping rooms. This also includes during
competition unless you are advised not to do so by
your Event Director. Uniformed and plain-clothed
security personnel have been instructed to detain
any person who is not wearing a CDC name badge.
This policy is for the protection and safety of
delegates. As an added security measure, visatype
wrist bands will be issued and required to be worn
at all times.
LOST & FOUND – If any delegate should find or
lose any personal property items, please report it
to the Registration Desk at the Skybridge
Registration Office.
CONFERENCE DRESS CODE & CONDUCT – Please
become familiar with the dress regulations printed
in this program reviewed during the opening
session of the conference. Your advisor has most
likely shared these with you since they were printed
in the Conference Information Kit that was posted
on the Texas DECA web site. Some 300 Dallas,
and surrounding area business and professional
persons are serving as judges, and they will base the
opinions of DECA by what they see. This includes
appropriate dress attire to the DECA socials.
TRANSPORTATION SERVICE – Conference
transportation will not be provided this year. All
DECA events will be in the Sheraton Hotel.
ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING – The Annual
Business Meeting will be held Friday, February 27,
2015, in the Sheraton Hotel Lone Star Ball Room.
Voting Delegates will need to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for
roll call and seating. During this important meeting,
all voting delegates will be seated in a reserved
section. The yellow Voting Delegate Ribbon and
your name badge will designate your admission to
the reserved seating. Other delegates and advisors
will be seated in another section of the Lone Star
Ball Room. The official dress code applies to this
meeting. Ballots will be distributed at “Roll Call”
prior to the Business Session. No additional ballots
will be distributed.
OFFICER CANDIDATES CAMPAIGNING – Officer
Candidates and their campaign staffs will be
distributing campaign literature and related items.
None of these materials may be attached to the
walls, posts, doors, windows or other parts of the
hotels or convention center. Only delegates who
submitted the required forms and assurances to the
State DECA Advisor by the deadline are eligible to
be candidates. All of the required forms were in the
State Information Kits. Budgets must be turned in
during registration. Candidates will be disqualified if
any rules and regulations are violated. This includes
removal of materials two hours prior to the business
session.
CURFEWS & CONFERENCE RULES – The curfew
is 11 p.m. every night. Uniformed and plain-clothed
security personnel, chapter advisors, and the state
conference staff will strictly enforce these curfews.
Curfew means, “in your hotel room with the
door shut and reasonably quiet.” NO TOBACCO
PRODUCTS, DRUGS, ALCOHOL or WEAPONS are
allowed. Any violation of these rules and any other
conference rule will be grounds for disqualification
and removal from the conference.
CONFERENCE HEADQUARTERS – Sheraton Hotel

Ball Room.

#TexasDECAis
Thanks! From Texas DECA
Some people have a way of giving us a much needed lift. They make our lives
brighter but we don’t always get the chance to tell them. The event directors, assistants, office staff, and DECA staff make this conference possible. The service that
is rendered throughout the year and through this conference is truly appreciated.
They demonstrate the purpose in this world, which is not to “have and to hold” but
“to give and to serve.”
DECA
Truly Appreciates…
