RMS Titanic
1912 - 2012
In April 1912, RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on
her maiden voyage from Southampton, England,
to New York City, resulting in the deaths of 1,517
people.
The liner, the largest passenger steamship in the
world at the time, was owned by the White Star
Line and had been constructed at the Harland
and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, UK.
Titanic was designed by experienced engineers,
using some of the most advanced technologies
and extensive safety features of the time and was
believed to be unsinkable.
Her length overall was 269.1m, the moulded
breadth 28m, the tonnage 46,328GRT, and the
height, from the water line to the boat deck, 18m.
She was equipped with two reciprocating fourcylinder, triple-expansion steam engines and one
low-pressure Parsons turbine, each driving a
propeller.
There were 29 boilers fired by 159 coal burning
furnaces and the liner had a top speed of 23
knots (43 km/h).
RMS Titanic left Southampton on 10 April and
after stops at Cherbourg and Queenstown
proceeded to set a course to New York. There
were 2,240 people on board.

Kevin Walsh was born in Castleford, in the heart
of the industrial West Riding of Yorkshire, the
same town which produced the world-famous
sculptor Henry Moore.
After studying illustration at the Wakefield College
of Art, Kevin developed an early reputation,
initially for his aircraft paintings.
In recent years, he has become increasingly
known for a much wider variety of subject matter.
Landscapes, city life and transport in bygone
days all figure prominently among his works.
He travels many miles for research and spends
countless hours sketching, before committing the
final composition to canvas. Accurate technical
and historical detail, combined with an ability to
capture the warmth and atmosphere of times
gone by are the hallmarks of this remarkably
accomplished artist.
Kevin’s original oil paintings are represented in
many important collections worldwide.

Born and brought up in Giggleswick, a village in
England’s Yorkshire Dales, Carol Lawson relates
that her mother told her that from the moment she
could hold a pencil, she has never stopped drawing.
Living in the country, she always loved to draw and
paint from nature: flowers, animals, birds - and had
a particular interest in fairy tales, which she read
constantly.
The artist attended Art College at Brighton University,
where she gained a degree in Art and Design. From
there she began work as a free-lance illustrator and
publishing. During the 1980’s she produced work
for the Franklin Mint, illustrating Grimm’s fairy tales for
their second edition of porcelain collector plates.
At the same time, she continued to work in
publishing, illustrating a book of classic fairy tales and
also writing and illustrating her own children’s books.
She wrote and illustrated the “Upstairs Downstairs
Bears” books, with the characters based on teddy
bears from her own (over 200!) collection.

become collectors pieces, Steve has managed
to adapt well to the changing needs of illustration
especially with the introduction of digital techniques
ten years or so ago.
He is a fine example of someone who has gone
on from that period to become a well-established,
internationally known, award winning illustrator.
Steve’s work features everything from traditional village
scenes and cottages to fantasy images.

from the eighties and nineties, many of which have

Jan van Haasteren was born in 1936 in Schiedam
near Rotterdam, Holland. In 1962 he started work
doing advertising/illustration and went on to work for
Toonder Animation Studios.
Among the many figures he used to draw was
Disney’s Hiawatha. After 5 years he left to become
a freelance illustrator, creating a comic strip called
‘Baron van Tast’ which became fairly well known.
Shortly after he received his first poster commission
from Heineken to design the interior of a pub for their
Lemon Genever.
This was the start of a long list of posters, which
he does for clients all over the world. He has made
Olympic Games posters for Philips, a series of
interiors of crazy factories for Colt International, posters
for banks and insurance companies, etc. Comic strips
and posters are his favourite works. He now creates a
lot of puzzle illustrations exclusively for Jumbo, which
find their way into homes in many countries.

Sharie Hatchett Bohlmann is a veteran of the
collectible art world. Her works which portray scenes
reminiscent of her world travels recognise the desire
that all people share to enjoy soothing landscapes
and magic memories. Purposely distinctive for their
lack of people, her art invites the viewer to become
part of the scene and to reflect upon the magic of the
moment.
Sharie’s works are widely sought after and have
graced the walls of the White House, since the time of
President Lyndon and Ladybird Johnson’s residency.
She has been collected by every Presidential Family
since that time. Bohlmann private collectors include
Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Julio Iglesis,
Donald Trump and U.S. Embassies worldwide.
Her works have also been produced and distributed
worldwide, in a huge variety of formats including
lithographs, puzzles, menus, book covers, calendars,
wine labels, note cards, mugs and ceramic tiles.

The award winning artist Corinne Hartley studied at
the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and the
Pasadena School of Fine Arts. For thirty years she was
a commercial fashion illustrator for the major department
stores in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills California. She
has been a professional painter for over 50 years and a
painting teacher for over 40 years.
Since her days as a fashion illustrator, she has
committed herself to painting series of children. She’s
an astute and empathetic observer of children’s
antics and youthful exuberance. Her children series of
paintings became very popular and her images have
been licensed all over the world. The beauty of life
and the joy of living is what Corinne Hartley intends to
express on her canvases. Her goal is to provide the art
lover with a superb example of how much beauty there
is in a moment and in the cherished details of daily life.
She continues to reappraise her artwork, remains open
to special moments of transformation, and thereby
frequently recaptures for lovers of her work those
timeless moments we recognize as real.
