The President’s File
Dear members,
Summer has gone and turned into fall, which so far, has been very nice. The year 2015
is slowly coming to a close and it’s already time to have a quick look back at some
main events of the last few months.
On April 19, our theatre section entertained us again with the comedy “E verhaengnisvolli Nacht”. A total of 170 people attended this event, which was held on a
Sunday afternoon for the first time.
On June 5, 32 members went to the Woodbine Racetrack for a luncheon and
some gambling.
On June 27 was the annual family BBQ at the Egger Farm.
August 15 was the date for the annual ‘Gruempel’ Soccer Tournament in Oakville.
On October 8, some members attended a special private screening of the documentary ‘On va marcher sur Everest (Everest, Summit of Desire)’ about Sophie Lavaud, a Swiss mountaineer who climbed Mt. Everest. This was followed by a Q&A
with Sophie.
The annual Raclette unfortunately had to be cancelled this year. Also the Zoo walk
was rained out.
The main event this year was held on July 26, when we celebrated our Swiss National Day, again at the beautiful Country Heritage Park in Milton. We were, once
again, treated by perfect weather and great attendance by many members and nonmembers of the Swiss Club (about 400 people in total).
The main entertainment this year was provided by the “Familienkapelle Knechtle”,
a quintet from Appenzell, who were on a little Canada tour. We were very glad to
have this authentic Swiss ‘Laendler’ band with us this year and I think everybody
enjoyed it.
Additional musical entertainment was provided by the ‘Trillium Alphorns’ (Eva
Hajda, Rene Waelti, Erwin Oechslin) and the Gallo Brothers. Thanks to all of you for
an entertaining afternoon.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming Vice Consul Mr. Peter Staeheli Quednau
from the Consulate General of Switzerland in Montreal and our Honorary Consul in
Toronto, Mrs. Kathy Utigard.
Trident Catering once again made sure we didn’t have to stay hungry with a fare of
traditional Swiss food. As usual, there was also coffee and Nussgipfeli. The final highlight, as every year, was our raffle, which offered great prizes, including helicopter
rides, baskets full of chocolates, army knives, gift cards, wine and many other great
prizes. Again, we extend our great thanks to all our sponsors. They play an important
role in making the festivities a success. Please see the list of this year’s sponsors in
this edition of the Tell Tale.
A big thank-you goes also to all our volunteers. Without them it would be impossible to put this event together. Thanks to each and everyone!
Looking forward:
On Sunday afternoon on November 22 we will have our Swiss Movie event again
organized by both the Women’s and Men’s sections.
You will find more information on this and any other events in this edition of the
Tell Tale and as usual, on our website www.swissclubtoronto.ca and www.facebook.
com/swissclubtoronto.
As the year draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to wish all club
members Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
Sascha Frassini, President
OPEN PRESIDENT POSITION IN 2016
As you might know, my second (two-year) term as President of the Swiss Club will
come to an end in February 2016. With that, I will have been President for four years
and I will not be putting myself up for re-election in 2016. We are therefore looking for
a president in just a few months.
For your information, a past president stays on the board as ex-officio officer for
two years to make the transition easier. If you are interested in this interesting and
rewarding position or know somebody who would be interested, please contact me
(Sascha Frassini) or any other current board member. All the contact information can
be found beside this note.

PAST EVENTS
PAST EVENTS
The September visit to the Magnotta Winery was not a big
success as many members where on vacation, were otherwise occupied or were just not interested. Oh well, you can’t win them all.
July 26: Swiss National Day
A great success once again. The band from Switzerland
contributed to a special atmosphere at our national celebration. All the guests had a good time on this beautiful
sunny day.
On Thursday, October 22, we had Lunch at Gabriel’s
Café in Aurora, a cozy Swiss Restaurant. The address is 15218
Yonge St., just a few stores south of Wellington St., on the west
side of Yonge St.
UPCOMING EVENTS
On Sunday, November 22 at 2:30 pm, we will have our
Swiss Movie Matinee, again in the large Hall of the Hillcrest
Library. PLEASE NOTE: It is on a Sunday this year!
The library is located on Leslie St. at Clansman Blvd, just south of
the Galati supermarket, about 750m north of Finch Ave. There is a
stop of the #51 Leslie Bus at that corner and a 75m walk to the library. As in past years, the ladies will supply cakes and coffee, and
we will look after the “electronics”! There will be lots of space to
display the Women’s Section bake sale. Note: This event is open to all
Swiss Club Members.
On Friday, December 4, starting at about 11:30 am, we will
have our Christmas Lunch at The Musket Restaurant,
40 Advane Rd. in Etobicoke. For those who are unable to come to this
lunch, we will not forget you; I will arrange an evening Christmas dinner
downtown. I will advise where and when later.
On Thursday, January 21, 2016 starting at about 11:45 am, we
will have Lunch at The Musket Restaurant, followed by our
Annual General Meeting. More details on this to follow later.
ONGOING
Come and join us every Monday morning from about 10:15
till noon for coffee (or whatever) at the Bakery Garden
Restaurant (near Loblaws) inside the Bayview Village Shopping
Centre, Bayview at Sheppard.
September 10: Potluck Luncheon
The weather was great and of course Julianna was spoiling
us again. All kinds of goodies were brought for us to taste,
and a variety of sweets that we all enjoyed. Thank you very
much Julianna for hosting again, all I can say you are a pro
of a hostess.
October 20: Anniversary Luncheon
Our anniversary luncheon at the Old Mill Restaurant. Celebrating 71 years of the Swiss Club Women’s Section and
hopefully many more to come.
UPCOMING EVENTS
November 22: Swiss Movie Matinee
and Bake Sale

On the long weekend of Labor Day, we
had our annual trophy presentation. Once
again, the weather was beautiful, we had
good food and a lot of fun. I want to thank
all the bowlers for participating and I’m
looking forward to the start of a new season on the 25th of October at the Parkway
Mall. We were 13 players and we always
invite new bowlers to spend a good time
with us. We play once a month and we
have dinner at one of the player’s home.
