Retired Faculty and Staff Association Fall Newsletter - September 2015 USFSP Founding Dean Les Tuttle Shows Winning Form at USF Night at the Rays In honor of USF St. Petersburg’s 50th Year Celebration, Founding Dean Les Tuttle was invited to throw out the first at USF Night at the Rays game on July 25. He represented us well with a display of athletic prowess. TV announcers Dewayne Staats and Brian Anderson commented on Les’s fine performance during the second inning of the game. It was a fun-filled evening even though the Rays lost to Baltimore 5-1. USFSP’s 50th was a featured highlight—notice the USFSP logo on the screen in the above photo. More than 2000 USF folks attended the game. At left, Les Tuttle chats with Dick Crippen before the game. Crippen was a long-time local sports anchor in and is a special assistant to the Rays. During the 1970s, Crippen took classes at USFSP, including a Popular Culture course with English Prof. Harriet Deer. Photos courtesy of Barb Kovats Tuttle.
