A Message from the President
“Inspiration” – it’s all around me
each day at Oglebay Institute.
It’s on the faces of the children
engaging in creative learning,
the artists, actors and dancers
gathering at our facilities to hone
their skills, the generations of
families sharing an afternoon
on a nature walk and the
visitors enjoying our galleries
and museums to appreciate art and gain a greater
understanding of local history. These things and so much
more exemplify the essence of Oglebay Institute. I am
inspired by the knowledge that philanthropy is at the heart
of all we do, from the facilities we operate to the programs
we deliver to more than 85,000 individuals each year. This
fact drives me, and all of us at Oglebay Institute, to work
efficiently, strategically, creatively and passionately to be
good stewards of the gifts from our benefactors.
Like any organization, we must invest in our employees,
programs and facilities to ensure that we deliver quality
products. (In our case, our “products” fulfill our mission,
“To foster appreciation, expression and discovery
by engaging people of all ages and abilities through
exceptional programming in performing and visual arts,
dance, history and nature.”) As a non-profit we provide
our programs and services at a low cost or, in many cases,
at no cost at all; therefore, we rely heavily on the support
of the community to do what we do, keep costs low and
ensure that our programs are accessible to everyone
At this time of year, many of us turn our thoughts to the
things for which we are most grateful and consider yearend contributions to the non-profit organizations that
mean the most to us. I hope that Oglebay Institute comes
to mind for you, and, if so, you will consider investing in us
through a gift to our Annual Fund. I can assure you that
your gifts will be put to good use as we strive to deliver the
highest quality of arts, nature and culture programming
today and for generations to come.

Make a Difference through the
OI Annual Fund!
Each year, more than 85,000
people of all ages experience the
arts and nature through Oglebay
Institute – at the Stifel Fine
Arts Center, School of Dance,
Towngate Theatre, Schrader
Environmental Education
Center, Mansion Museum and
Glass Museum, and through
in-school programs that OI
instructors conduct in classrooms all over the Ohio Valley.
However, tickets, fees and memberships cover only 58%
of what it takes to provide the quality programs for which
OI is well known. The Oglebay Institute Annual Fund was
established in 2014 as a means of generating the additional
support that’s needed to make up the difference and keep the
Institute’s 85-year tradition strong.
We ask that you consider an end-of-year donation to the
Annual Fund to help OI continue making the arts and
nature accessible and enjoyable for Ohio Valley residents.
As an added incentive, through the state’s Neighborhood
Investment Program, OI is pleased to have available a
limited amount of tax credits for distribution to West
Virginia residents making gifts of $500 and above that are
either unrestricted or designated to benefit OI’s scholarship
program.

and honor individuals who have made a
bequest or other type of planned giving
arrangements to help ensure the future
viability of Oglebay Institute.

Adaptive Dance Workshop with Todd Rosenlieb
School of Dance
Ice Cream Social
for Seniors
Stifel Fine Arts Center
Thanks to a grant from the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, Oglebay Institute’s
School of Dance was able to host a series of workshops with adaptive dance specialist Todd
Rosenlieb. Rosenlieb has been teaching successful adaptive dance classes for children with Down
Syndrome and other physical limitations since 2010. His training allows participants to gain the
knowledge and confidence to use adaptive dance in a variety of settings, leading to more availability

how to teach inclusion-based dance. Nine area schools and agencies participated in the September

More than 100 seniors attended an Open
House/Ice Cream Social August 12 on
the lawn of the Stifel Fine Arts Center. In
addition to enjoying sweet treats, guests
listened to presentations by OI staff
members, learned about upcoming programs,
enjoyed guided tours of the Stifel Mansion
and shared their feedback regarding
programs, services and ways they would like
to engage with OI.
