Envirochem Services Personnel Profiles Thomas (Tom ) Finnbogason, B.Sc., Founding Partner This Prarie boy from Winnipeg headed west and, well, never looked back. Tom opened the doors to Envirochem in 1984 and has since become well-known for his expertise in managing marine and freshwater issues (dredging, ocean disposal, fisheries regulations), PCB and hazard waste management, contaminated sites, permitting and environmental auditing. Outside of work, Tom is usually consumed by something to do with hockey. Contact Tom: tom@envirochem.com Paul Beauchemin, P.Eng., Partner A chemical engineer by training, Paul’s inquiring mind has led him into developing an amazing array of technical and management expertise. Paul specializes in process controls for pollution prevention, air quality and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management, permitting, development of environmental management systems (EMS), compliance and EMS auditing, electronic waste management , energy management and biomass assessments. Paul is a certified Energy Manager, GHG Verifier and EMS Lead Auditor (EMS-LA). Paul received the distinguished PNWIS Robert Stockman award for his dedication and achievements in air quality. Paul is an avid sailor and traveler in his spare time. Contact Paul: paul@envirochem.com Anthony Dickinson, M.Eng., P.Eng., Manager, Technical and Engineering Services A former forest products executive with close business ties to China, Anthony heads our Technical and Engineering Services group drawing on 14 years’ experience in environmental management. He oversees field sampling (air, water and soil); leads permit management activities including applications and reporting, NPRI, GHG calculations, carbon footprints; technical assessment of pollution control equipment; conducts EMS and compliance audits; and guides the development of Envirochem’s signature software application, eDICTS™. Andrew MacKay, M.E.S., Manager, Environmental Management Systems Andrew brings over 18 years’ experience developing and implementing EMS and auditing programs; environmental compliance auditing; site and environmental assessments; permitting; media sampling; and training. He has also acted as an “Outsourced Environmental Manager” for several companies. Andrew received his certificate for ISO 14001 Lead Auditor training and is a pending EMS Lead auditor (EMS-LA). He is a sports enthusiast and takes equal pleasure teasing his workmates. Contact Andrew: andrew@envirochem.com Tony Di Nino, M.Eng., P.Eng., Senior Environmental Engineer Tony is a senior lead environmental compliance and EMS auditor with designations including CEA and EMS (LA). He has completed over 200 compliance and /or EMS audits of pulp mills, dams, landfills, special waste storage facilities, wood preservation facilities, rendering plants, manufacturing facilities, and mines. Not only has Tony assisted industrial clients in developing and maintaining their EMS to meet ISO14001 requirements he has also conducted ISO 14001 certification audits throughout North America. He has prepared environmental risk assessment guides, environmental procedures, and spill/ fire contingency plans for industrial clients. Darryl Stowe, B.Sc., P.Chem., Residuals Manager Darryl, a local boy born and raised in North Vancouver, has over 18 years experience in the industry. As a Professional Chemist, he brings vast experience in the treatment and disposal of hazardous waste, environmental regulatory affairs, waste facility permitting, hazard assessments, hazardous building materials disposal, and environmental compliance audits. Darryl manages our Vancouver Island office in Courtenay. When he’s not up to his waist in waste, Darryl can be found on the golf course, on the ice or on the diamond. MBA, Technician Originally from Nairobi, Kenya, Job has gradually adjusted to cooler climates and a busy schedule as an Environmental Technician. Job has conducted over 50 compliance and EMS audits for heavy industry clients in forest products, oilsands, shipyards, marine transportation and manufacturing. Job is our lead field sampler for air quality, stormwater and soils. He has also contributed to numerous air dispersion models and odour studies. His technical knowledge is rounded out with a certificate as a trained EMS auditor (QMI 2007). A retired rugby “star”, Job enjoys riding his motorcycle (when it works) and playing checkers. Contact Job: job@envirochem.com Olga Petrov, M.Sc., B.Sc., EET, Air Quality Expert Our resident optimist brings tremendous depth in air quality management. Previously the Head of the Air Quality Control Department in Serbia, Yugoslavia, Olga has undertaken novel research in odour sampling and management; led ambient and indoor air sampling and related health risk assessment; selection and engineering controls’ effectiveness testing; dispersion modelling and pollution prevention planning. Olga is also a highly regarded and enthusiastic instructor in Chemical Sciences Technology at BCIT. Not one to rest, Olga also completed her M.Sc. at Royal Roads with a focus on sustainability. Eng., P.Eng., HSE Specialist Mark brings a unique “blend” to Envirochem clients as a former industry HSE Manager and current vinter based on Vancouver Island. As a previous HSE Manager, Mark has proven “hands on experience” to set department plans; assess regulatory compliance status and implement performance improvement actions; lead corporate HSE benchmarking; design and implement audit protocols; and perform technical environmental integrity audits. He has also developed Job Safety Assessments/ Job Hazard Assessments (JSA/JHA) and is familiar with the Work Safe BC CORE program. Contact Mark: markh@envirochem.com. Martin Tampier, M.Eng., Renewable Energy Specialist Mr. Tampier is a Canadian renewable energy expert with multilingual capabilities. He has authored numerous leading edge studies including renewable energy policy (“Promoting Green Power in Canada”); biomass support policies in North America; and optimal uses for bugwood (BC Ministry of Forests and Range). Martin has become a widely recognized expert for his practical insights on the advantages and disadvantages of different biomass use options. Cheryl Campbell, M.A.Sc., Management Systems Specialist Cheryl brings over 14 years’ experience that includes developing, implementing and evaluating EHS, Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS), Quality Management Systems (QMS), energy management systems, electronics recycling systems and workplace training in various business sectors. She is an Environmental Professional – Compliance Auditor EP(CEA), and Environmental Management System Lead Auditor EMS(LA). Jason Seeley, B.Sc., Environmental Engineer (EIT) Jason has been with Envirochem for over three years since graduating from UBC with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Jason has become our resident carbon footprint specialist while conducting odour management studies and hazardous building material management and disposal. Andriana Beauchemin, BA, LEED & Sustainability Specialist Andriana offers Envirochem clients practical and innovative approaches to Sustainability through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and is a LEED for Homes specialist. She has been engaged in LEED-guided assignments for residential and commercial sites including waste management of Little Mountain (Vancouver, BC) low rise building demolition. Anthony Dickinson directs our highly innovative group of programmers and application managers. Our software specialists work closely with the environmental service personnel to ensure Envirochem applications address real world needs. Anthony Dickinson, P.Eng., Director, Software Development and Installations Wearing his second hat, Anthony has directed program design and installation for over eight years. Over this period, Envirochem’s signature program eDICTSTM has been installed by a wide spectrum of industry to improve environmental performance and, in many cases, obtain certifications (ISO 14001) and industry awards. J. “Junior” Duzic, Lead Programmer Inspired by innovation, Junior has assimilated ideas from Envirochem field staff with leading edge programming to generate applications trusted by a wide array of industrial sectors. He re-wrote our signature software program eDICTSTM from the dark ages of software (DAO to .net environment) to the extremely customizable and user friendly version in use today. He redesigned the basic structure of eDICTS to allow the software to connect to multiple databases and database types (i.e. MS Access, SQL, Oracle). Contact Junior at: response@envirochem.com. Bill Howells, Contract Systems Manager and Installer From Yemen to BC, Bill has worked in many diverse cultures and IT scenarios. He has set up and installed UNIX, Novell and Microsoft systems, networks, and workstations. Most recently with Envirochem, Bill installed a customized version of Envirochem’s DICTS TM software for dispatching and HR installed an upgraded operating system to improve IT efficiency. He strengthens our SQL programming skills and will be invaluable in setting up new installs in the variety of network environments that exist today. Dave will work with Jaromir to develop custom reports as required by clients. Shwetank QA/QC Tester As part of our commitment to continual improvement, Shwetank systematically tests each module of Envirochem’s signature application, eDICTSTM, to ensure that all the features function as they were designed to.
