CHARUSAT COMET | July 2013 | Vol.: 04, Issue: 03 Page 17 CHARUSAT organized Short Term Experimental Training Program-3 (STETP-3) The third short term experimental Training Program-3 (STETP-3) was organized by Charotar University of Science & Technology (CHARUSAT), Changa, Dist. Anand, Gujarat during 6th to 11th May 2013 at the Department of Physical Sciences under P D Patel Institute of Applied Sciences. In order to pace with the vigorous developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology, it is essential to know the foundation of relevant concepts of physics and chemistry. The aim of these workshops was to reduce this knowledge gap by Hands-On experiments in Nanoscience. The first of this series workshop was held in May 2011 on basic understanding of concept of Physical Sciences under STETP - 1. Looking to the response of the participants, the second workshop on Hands-on Experiments in Nanoscience was organized during May 2012. In series of the same this year, the third Short Term Experimental Training Program (STETP-3) emphasizing “Hands-on Experiments in Nanoscience” was planned only for the 1st year B. Sc. Students from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad under the Coordination of Dr. C. K Sumesh, Dr. Bhavin Patel, Dr. Kinnari Parekh and Dr. Sachin Joshi. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B G Patel, Provost, CHARUSAT, Changa and by Prof. R V Upadhyay, Principal, P D Patel Institute of Applied Sciences. We believe that unless and until the individual ‘dirt’ his/her hands in the laboratory, it is impossible to have a feel of the subject of utmost importance. The program was planned to cover the basic concepts of physical and chemical sciences extended to synthesis of nanomaterials and its characterization using sophisticated instruments like powder XRD and UV-Visible Spectrophotometer. Total fourteen activities with three major experiments which make the individuals understand why this field is called inter-disciplinary were performed by participants. The manual for the same was prepared to impart basic required inputs for performing the experiments which are designed such that the knowledge depth increases along with the laboratory skills. More emphasis was given on the activity related to the Nanoscience and analytical techniques with brief demonstration of data analysis. STETP-3 CHARUSAT COMET | July 2013 | Vol.: 04, Issue: 03 Page 18 The participants enjoyed doing all the activities and requested to extend the training duration up to two weeks. In order to train the participants for the presentation skill, few topics related to the theme were presented by them and two Best presentations were awarded by book prize. An overwhelming appreciation was received from all the participants.
