PRESIDENT’S REPORT
April already, what happened to
summer! The year just seems to be
flying along and not enough time in
the day to get everything done
these days. I’m still trying to get the
ground work done for my
completion of my shed before
winter. Not much happened this
month, I’ve been a bit busy of late
due to work and have not had a
chance to catch up with anyone
apart from phone calls.
The Chev Committee is still
gathering information to put
together for a layout of our next
Convention, so sorry no new news
until next month.
The Dixons Creek Run, our 1st run
for the year, would have been run
by now, so thankyou Lois for
organising that.
I attended my Brother in law
Shane’s wedding (he’s a member of
this club) and had a great day and
my little baby girl turned 18. Payden
(who’s also a member) also got the
greatest gift you could receive on
your birthday, your licence.
Yep I still remember the day I got
mine. FREEDOM and LEGAL. You
didn’t have to look over your
shoulder or start to sweat looking in
the mirror every time a cop followed
you! Drove my HK 2dr Monaro for
24hrs that day, you couldn’t get me
out of it. Young, good looking, happy
and a chick magnet, suppose not
much has changed. Anyway
congratulations to Payden for
turning 18 and getting her licence
and she’s soon going to start to save
for that 66 impala she wants
(another bloody extension to the
shed!).
Thank you to the members
having a go at writing articles and
reporting on runs for the newsletter.
It makes Gasser Steve’s job a lot
easier to fill the newsletter with
great reading and photos. Please all
give it a go or I’ll tap you on the
shoulder anyway! One thing I like to
see is our country members
contributing about story’s and runs
we would normally not hear about
and remember if you’ve got buy,
.......... Club Member Wedding
swap, or sell send Stevo an email.
Our May mystery run needs an
organiser/organisers so please
consider members as it’s normally
an easy task and turns into a great
day enjoyed by all so give Lois or
myself a call if you can do it and we
will give any assistance we can on
the run.
I would like to thank John Smith
from Pro Steer Down Under and
Tim Gearing from Green Prestige
Detailing for their great
presentations at our last meeting
as guest speakers. They both gave a
great spill of their businesses and
we had a great turnout. Once again
if anyone knows of anyone fit for
the task of guest speaker let me
know. I would like to see the club
booked every 2 to 3 months with a
speaker.
Anyway that’s about it, short
and sweet, so enjoy April everyone!
“ Drive em hard ”
Greg Rowe.
..........
Congratulations to club member Shane Tulk and his lovely bride Linda. They were married at Main Ridge
on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula & later had a great reception back at Tootgarook (near Rosebud). The
wedding party cruised in style in Shane and Linda’s 56 & my 57, which scrubbed up for the day just great.
We all had a
ball and the rain
stayed away for
the day.
I even had to
ditch the shorts
for the day and
wack on a suit
and tie. Enjoy
the honeymoon
guys and hope
you have a long
and successful
marriage.
Your favourite
brother in law,
Rowie.

Guest Speakers
At our March meeting we were lucky enough to have 2 guest speakers.
John Smith from Prosteer Downunder was first to talk about his latest Right hand drive Power steering boxes for 55 56
57 Chevs. They look great and should solve some steering issues for some of us with enough cash to convert our cars.
Steering box sells for $1,750.oo. John also has all of the other components we need to complete the job. Steering
shaft’s, pumps & brackets etc. John is also importing Guard covers with Chevy logo’s I’m sure he we sell a bundle of
those. May make great raffle prizes?
Tim Gearing from Deep Green Prestige Detailing was our second speaker. Tim is super passionate about detailing cars
and gave us a very informative talk on how he cleans cars. I for one now know how much I DON’T know about
keeping our cars detailed to such a high standard. Tim’s passion was fantastic and you would trust him with your pride
& joy. His rate seemed very reasonable. So if you need a vehicle detailed give Tim a call 0497655726 He needs about
a week lead in time.
We would like to thank John and Tim for giving up there time to come and give us a presentation on these new
products and services. It was very informative and interesting.
Cruise Reports
L.G.C. Approx. 350 cars. Nice hot weather. Always a great night. I think there were more Club members attending the
night then come to the monthly meetings.
Melbourne old school cruisers seem to be getting bigger each month. Next cruise is on March 14th at Moorabbin.
Check out their web site for more details.
Alan Newton went to Mt. Gambier for a Rod run Approx. 70 cars. A real nice old fashioned run.
They are trying to keep it that way so may cap numbers.

the
I would like to express my thanks for being considered worthy of receiving the Glenn
Rulach Memorial award. I consider it an honour to receive this award, especially as it is
first time it has been presented. I have always thought of Glenn as an icon in the club
and think this will be how he is remembered. I also am very happy that Glenn’s life
membership was passed onto, and accepted by Jules. It was great to see her at the
presentation night and she will always be very welcome at any event associated with
the club.
Thanks again. Bill.

VHRR HISTORIC RACES – PHILLIP ISLAND
Dusted off the 57 & headed off in the dark to the
Island on a foggy Sunday morning. Ross, Tim & friend
John had stayed in Cowes so I went there first for a coffee.
When we left to go to the racetrack the old heap wouldn’t
start, yep – left the lights on! (Hey Bill, at least I didn’t
run out of petrol this time!) Jumped in with Ross in the
pickup & followed Tim, I reckon there were a few startled
koala’s & maybe even a couple of penguins when the
blown 56 cruised by! Parked near the braking area at the
end of the main straight & settled in for a good day’s
racing.
There was plenty of action and with only a few
minutes between each race it just kept on coming. I can’t
believe that there is such a strict noise curfew as the track
has been there for a loooong time – no engines before 9am
or after 5pm, 2 cars that were OK to race at suburban
Sandown recently were suddenly too noisy to race in the
wilds of Phillip Island! Greenies gone mad! On Saturday
the was a parade of Torana SLR5000’s to celebrate their
40th anniversary which finished after 5 & the couple of
race prepped ones had to be towed off the track. Anyway
we still had a great day, Sir Jack Brabham did some
parade laps, albeit the 87 year old does it these days as a
passenger & spotted Norm Beechey in the crowd. For an
old race fan it was terrific watching the Formula 5000’s
flying down into the southern loop, although not quite
with the bravado of the 70’s, and the great turnout of
Group A & C Touring cars. Fred Gibson has collected a
few his old racecars and once again the Nissans
dominated. (Pack of arseholes! Jim Richards words– not
mine.)
Got back to Cowes & the 57 battery still wouldn’t
cooperate, so after a jump start I said farewell to the
tourists & headed back to lovely Hastings-By-The-Sea
& the battery charger! Oh, & a couple of ales!

On Friday 14th March at
11.00am, Bruno & Chris Arena, Joe &
Jo Arena, David, Virginia & co,
Michael Kendal & Julia (Veronica &
girls are leaving after school), Alan
Smithson & Don, Peter & Heather
Liston met at Bunker Hill for the trip to
Echuca. We took off at great speed
towards Heathcote, but lost Alan, so we
slowed down to a more leisurely pace.
We found the boys waiting for us and
we all enjoyed pies for lunch and met
Michael Bugeja.

TOP 8 - Well Done David
At about 3.00pm, we were all
checked in to the Moama Riverside
Caravan Park and it was time to chat,
relax and clean cars. At 6.00pm we all
cruised to the Rich River Golf Club to
register and the 'sausage sizzle', steak
& onions, bratwurst, roast pork, chicken
and salad, followed by live
entertainment and catching up with
friends not seen for a while and other
club members. It was a great night
which was followed by more relaxing
back at the caravan park.
9.30am on Saturday morning saw
us off to the Sportsman’s Club to meet
up for the cruise to Deniliquin. It was an
interesting drive and on arrival at Deni
we were parked on the lawn in the
picturesque town park under large
shady trees. While the locals checked
out the cars, we checked out the local
coffee shops. By 2.00pm we were on our
way home for more relaxing and were
impressed by Alan swimming across the
river and back.

Rich River Rod Run 2014
Saturday night was the 'Dinner
and Entertainment' event. We left the
caravan park with dry but threatening
skies, but it bucketed all the way out to
the Golf Club, yet when we arrived,
only the thunder and lightning was left.
Again, the food was superb, Prawns,
Chicken, Roast Lamb, Roast Pork, Fish
and Veggies. Desert was mini lemon
meringue pies, chocolate tart, brulee
and fruit salad. Our table was one of the
last to leave the dining room as the
company and conversation was flowing
freely. Fortunately Julie & Mick Looms
were seated at a table next to the dance
floor which they shared with those of us
who wanted to have a dance. So David
& Virginia, Carol & Albert and Peter
& Heather got to rock & roll to the
three live artists, a quality list of
country rockabilly singers.
Sunday morning, we all converged on to
the Sportsman’s Club for a breakfast of
egg & bacon burgers, ham & cheese
croissants and mini muffins.
Unfortunately the day was a lot cooler
than the previous, but there was a huge
turnout and the rain held off.
Congratulations to David Desira for
being one of the top 8 entries.
By about 2.00pm we hit the road, some
for more relaxing and others, back to the
grind until next time.

Dixon’s Creek Run
Last Sunday we met at Lilydale Macca’s
to cruise to Dixon’s Creek for lunch. The
weather was great and after checking out
Tim’s ‘32 Hi-Boy roadster we all headed for
the Creek. The traffic was heavy and we were
spread out like Brown’s cows by the time we
got there, but no one got really lost!
Jeff & Kayleen (Benalla) and Tony &
Alice (Badgers Creek) were already there and
after another look at Tim’s ‘32 about 30 of us
took over the joint (although Karl couldn’t
rearrange the tables!) Drinks were had, meals
ordered – parma’s seemed to be popular.
Service wasn’t too bad for a large group,
although one meal did go missing, pesky chook
must have got away! Poor Alice, hey you could
open your own restaurant & call it..... Oh, I
think that’s already been done!
We had a good turnout of 13 cars and a
good day was had by all – see you next time.
Meet at Macca's for coffee

The ASRF ran a men’s health day, so
how do you get a bunch of us to get up close &
personal with our healthy side –put on a car
day of course! Judging by the amount of rods
& customs at Sandown – there were plenty in
the outside parking lot too – I think that the
organisers would be very happy with the
turnout. I managed to get checked for diabetes,
blood pressure & something called ‘BMI’,
apparently according to this BMI I am under
height for my weight, so this year will try and
get taller! While we were getting checked Bill
D’s wife Kerin thought she may as well get
tested, us blokes thought we had done really
well only to hear the medico tell Kerin that
“she was perfect” Ah well, but somehow I
think Bill already knew this!
Neat 55 Nomad
There was info on all
sorts of other things
that ail us, along with
some activities to keep
us occupied when we
get ‘old’. It was a
painless way to get a
bit of a check up.
There was a good roll
up of members & cars.
