WEEK 4
FRIDAY, 27TH SEPTEMBER 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week started off with a blanket of doom, horror, disbelief and sadness on
the senseless killing and destruction at Westgate. We have all been affected in
one way or the other. In one way or the other, we shall pull through together and
shall be hopeful and not allow ourselves to be divided by such devastating
adversities. As a nation we continue to stand proud. We are one!
At school the older children have asked questions and have been curious trying
to make sense of this disaster. Explanations have been provided to them. We
shall continue to address this with the children as they bring it up in their conversations. A minute of silence was observed today during assembly to pay respect to all those who were and are affected by the tragic attack and to
acknowledge all the brave men and women who have worked tirelessly during this
crisis. On Monday, we will have a special time of remembrance with the older
children. We will light candles and make origami doves.

Movie Morning for our EYFS children took place on Thursday. They were

FS 1&2 children had a fantastic day out today at Mt. Kenya Orphanage. Scouts

“Watch your Tongue” was the performance the Year 3 class put together for our
Family Assembly this morning. We were reminded that the old adage ’sticks and
stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me’ , is so not true and we
need to always be mindful of what we say to each other. See the poem they
have put together; overleaf.

FS1 and FS2 Trip to the Animal Orphanage
Excitement filled the children in FS1 and FS2 as they got onto the bus after the Friday assembly. They were heading to the Mount Kenya Animal Orphanage at Fairmount Hotel. As the
wheels on the bus went round and round the children nearly busted with anticipation.
The children had a little snack in the beautiful cool gardens by some ponds. Then the adventure started. They strolled through a blossoming vegetable garden specifically planted for the
animals. Then into the Orphanage …
They were welcomed by a Caracal (lynx) who gave us a leisurely stare as the children stared
back in awe! A chilled out Bushbuck allowed the children to come and say hello and pet it.
James the guide gave an introduction and took the children round to see more animals.

 Ms. Ngugi mentions Matilda for enthusiastically doing all the activities set out for her.
 Sikina is mentioned by Ms. Kabata for having good concentration skills in and out of class.
 Mrs. Mathu mentions Gabriel for tidying up the sandpit. Sebastian and Angus are mentioned for making
new friends from other classes.
 Flynn is mentioned by Mrs. Bebbington for finding something not his (100/-) and handing it in to his

FINA L NOTE
Our hardcore sporting area is progressing really well and we will be making use of this
facility very soon.
A reminder that our Parent Forum Meeting will be taking place on Thursday, 10th October
at 12:00. Please send your agenda items for discussion.
For purposes of health and safety, we advice that children wear a swimming cap during
swimming lessons. Also, children who do not respect safety rules around the swimming area
will be asked to sit aside in these lessons.
