March 2016 Brian Boyd, Principal We have many wonderful opportunities and activities planned for Mill Road Elementary School during the month of March. Today at recess, students will meet some of the players from the Harlem Wizards that will be playing against the Mill Road Elementary School Staff on April 3rd at Bard College. Come School—Grades 3-5 watch the Wizards dunk on teachers during Mill Road Mill Road News March Newslet ter this fun PTA event. Starting this week, our students will participate in March Multiplication Madness!! Mrs. Longendyke will be coordinating the event and tracking the progress. Each week they will be assessed on their multiplication facts 1-12 starting this week!! Study those math facts!!! Also note, tomorrow (Wednesday, 3/2) is Read Across America Day. Students are encouraged to dress like their favorite book characters and enjoy some quality reading. On March 15th we will host our annual Author’s Tea at Mill Road. Local authors and illustrators come in to speak with our students about the writing process. More details for this event will be distributed in the coming week. Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet We are excited to announce that our school’s production of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet will take place on two consecutive weekends in April. Details for the show and ticket purchasing are below. Come support and be entertained by our student performers. The show runs Saturday, April 9th at 11am, and Saturday, April 16th at 11am at the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck on Route 308. The show is sponsored jointly by the PTA and PTSA and features 35 5th-7th graders in a modern take on the Bard's classic love story. Tickets cost $7 each for children (up to age 12), and $9 each for adults (we have no student/senior discounts), and the seats are reserved. The theater is waiving their $2/ea. processing fee so you can't order tickets on the website, only directly through the box office. To purchase tickets you should call or visit the box office (845-876-3080) TUESDAY-FRIDAY FROM 12:00-5:00PM OR SATURDAY FROM 1:00-5:00PM. These are the only hours/days during which the box office is open for business. COME JOIN US!!! On Sunday, April 3 at 3:00 (doors open at 2pm), the Harlem Wizards will play the Mill Road Elementary School Staff at Stevenson Gym at Bard College. Order forms are being sent home this week. The PTA will be selling tickets on 3/9 at K-2 parent pick up. You can also order online at: www.harlemwizards.com Last Chance for Yearbooks Yearbooks were on sale in February. If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook, make sure you get your money in right away. We are putting orders in now. Price is $15 each.
