(734) 737-9879 Certainly the northern Michigan sights are overwhelmingly beautiful – pristine lakeshores, national parks abound with vibrant colors. But have you ever stopped to listen to the unique sounds – the call of falcons; the breeze through undisturbed, natural terrains; the surf rolling into shore? Gerald Hug wants to help you hear those sounds. He’s not a salesperson looking to sell the latest product; he’s an audiologist excited to go to work everyday. “I don’t have a job – it’s more of a hobby. It’s fun to help improve someone’s quality of life.” After taking his first audiology college course, Hug was hooked. He’s still educating himself (receiving his doctorate next year) so his patients are guaranteed the latest medical advancements. Hug’s philosophy is simple: if your quality of life is impacted by hearing loss, treat the loss. Great strides in technology have resulted in cosmetically appealing aids that process softer sounds louder, and louder sounds softer – something your grandfather’s hearing aid couldn’t do. ● Visit HUG Center for Hearing. You’ll hear what you should hear – including those rhythmic, soothing sounds of the Lake Michigan shores. In 2003 that dream became a reality, and Teri continues her 30-year tradition of hand selecting every piece: “I like working with unique designers. I like hand-finished pieces, fine craftsmanship, the richer color of 18K gold.” “Teri has an eye for quality and design like no one else,” Matt boasts. Entering DJ, you’re not only awed by beautiful things, you’re immediately eased by an inviting atmosphere. Customers are welcomed as special guests by the Allens, Teri’s brother, Nick, and their staff. While all of the DJ collections are uniquely beautiful – from platinum bridal to exotic color sapphires – what’s most eye-popping are their rare diamonds. According to Matt, “Our signature rounds are cut/polished to the highest world standards. The difference is measurable: we use ‘Isee2’ technology to calculate brilliance, scintillation, and symmetry.” Loyal customers are invited to special events, like Ladies Glamour Night and the popular Men’s Panic Party complete with pizza, beer, and free gift wrapping the week before Christmas. Stop in ... treat yourself! Dearborn Jewelers (734) 737-9525 ● Dearborn Jewelers features colorful “rainbow” sapphires like these, intensely brilliant Lucere diamonds, and natural, fancy-colored diamonds by Uneek. Parker Whitaker, a muscle/pain therapist here in Plymouth, wasn’t. “Parker immediately treated me for a pinched nerve using muscle-release technique (MRT). I walked out of his clinic without pain and went from running 3 miles to 26 within a couple of months.” With a background in clinical massage and extensive MRT training, Whitaker is helping people live pain-free. His clients range from 80-somethings to Ironman tri-athletes, and the less time he spends with them, the happier he is. “That may seem counter-intuitive to running a business,” says Whitaker, “but my goal is to see people as few times as possible. If I can help someone in one session – which happens frequently – then I consider myself successful.” MRT originated in Europe, and is medically proven to increase athletic performance and improve injury-healing time. Along with hands-on therapy, best described as uncomfortable, but never painful, stretching, Whitaker educates his patients on how to remain pain-free. That’s how Meggan was able to finish her first Ironman: “Knowing how to stretch myself is a big plus. Parker’s my savior.” Whitaker Therapy, 585 Forest #3 (734) 459-4538 sideways... For More Information on Downtown Events Visit www.downtownplymouth.org Variety is “Spice” for Executive Chef There’s a playful twinkle in Chef John Schofer’s eye reserved for lovers of authentic Irish fare - with a culinary twist. “The great thing about being a chef at Sean O‘Callaghan’s (SO’Cs) is that each day is a little different. Using only fresh seasonal ingredients, I create new dishes every week. As corny as it sounds, variety is the ‘spice’ of life for me,” says John, a 7-year certified American Culinary Federation Chef with 17 years’ experience. After cooking up delights in Chicago and Indiana, John returned home to Livonia and Dearborn Inn’s kitchen before joining SO’Cs 4 years ago. If this Irish Public House’s décor, malt whiskey & Guinness don’t make you wish your last name began with “O,” the bangers & mash and Irish Breakfast certainly will. “We import cheeses, mustards, meats, and fish from the Emerald Isle,” claims John. “I feature seafood because I can do so much with it: coconut battered shrimp, orange-roughy fish ‘n chips, seared rare Ahi Tuna.” And if not everyone in your party is an Irish-food enthusiast, other savory choices like pan-roasted double-cut pork chops in a red wine/gorgonzola reduction, mouth-watering shaved prime rib sandwiches, burgers, and grilled chicken are sure to be a hit. Muscle/pain therapist, Parker Whitaker, says that’s all it’ll take to increase your metabolism and burn more fat. Whitaker should know, having served as a “test” client for the range-of-motion (ROM) machine, he was blown away. “I heard about ROM and thought it was too good to be true. I was training 10 hrs/wk when the opportunity to test ROM arose. It was truly a life-changing experience.” Whitaker used the machine 4 minutes a day, continued his typical nutrition plan, and cut his body fat 3% in 2 weeks. By 9 months, he’d added 12 lbs. of muscle. Not everyone may see these results, but Whitaker says all his clients feel energized within 7 days. So what’s different? With ROM, you stretch, get resistance and work out anaerobically. Those 4 minutes are so intense, your body’s metabolism spikes for 20 hours (compared to a measly 2 hours after only cardio). Barbra Wells tried ROM only to prove it was a waste of time. “The idea of working out 4 minutes/day and obtaining any fitness benefit seemed ridiculous. But, my first ROM workout was so humbling that I went back for more. I’m now able to endure longer stints of interval and cross-training. I love it.” Skeptical?
