Lake Superior Provincial Park Lake Superior Povincial was established in 1944 along the shores of Lake Superior just south of Wawa. covering more than 160ha it is one of the largest parks in Ontario. Highway 11 starting in Beardmore where the former Lietch mine siteis located on the way to Poplar Point. Leitch was the highest grade gold mine in Canada during its operation. Northern Empire and Sand River mines also operated around Beardmore. It claims world class hiking and paddling, camping and scenerey. Agawa canyon, home to the Agawa rock pictographs, which are sacred to the Ojibwe peoples of the area. Geraldton’s Hard Rock and Bankfield mines were some of the largest gold producers in the region in the 40’s and 50’s. Remanants of old mine sites little the area starting approximately 20km west of Geraldton and ending at the head frame pictures to the left which is located right on highway 11 at the Geraldton turn off.
