Trail & Map Information Online Resources This map is intended as a general orientation and route guide only. Mileage is approximate. Boaters are advised to use highway, county, or topographic maps for more detailed information. Altamaha River Partnership www.altamahariver.org River conditions and and currents vary according to weather and season, and tidal effects are felt in the lower portions of the Altamaha as you approach the coast. Windy conditions can affect canoes and kayaks on wider sections of the river. Always check current and weather conditions before you begin your trip. Local outfitters and visitor centers can also give you valuable information. Paddlers are urged to use discretion and caution! Under average conditions you should allow at least one hour of flatwater paddling to cover two - three miles of river; driving and shuttling time is extra. • • • • • Carry plenty of drinking water, snacks and a map.
