HOW TO LOOK BUSY - Here`s the Scoop
HOW TO LOOK BUSY Generally, this will not be a concern until you are promoted to an executive position. But once you've created the illusion that you serve even the slightest purpose at your place of "business," there's no telling how far you'll go. In the real working world, productivity is all a matter of appearances. Appearance: You are furiously taking notes while conducting an important telephone marketing survey. Reality: You are pretending to take notes while talking to your friend who has called collect from Bulgaria. Appearance: You are on the phone with a client in New York and you have said, "Yes sirree! That stock is about to shoot through the roof, now's a great time to buy, I tell ya!" Reality: You are on the phone with a friend in Guam and you have said, "Yeah, this job is terrible, and my boss is such a pushy whining... Yes sirree! That stock is about to shoot through the roof, now's a great time to buy, I tell ya!" Appearance: You are at your computer writing a serious business memorandum to your department supervisor. Reality: You are at your computer telling Belinda Strahnach / Ty Domi jokes to your e-mail correspondent in Toronto. Appearance: You are urgently plugging numbers into a complicated spreadsheet. Reality: You are playing Tetris. Appearance: You are tapping away on calculator keys, helping out the accounting department. Reality: You are paying your electric bill. Appearance: You are reading the DOS manual. Reality: You are reading the TV guide you placed in the DOS manual. Page 25 Happy 5th Anniversary Here’s the Scoop! Classes are at Airdrie United Church Hall at #204 - 1st Avenue in Airdrie on Tues & Thurs nights at 7 pm. Family rates are available. Classes are taught by Sensei Tim DUNLAP (5th Degree Black Belt) For more info on schedules & class rates, please call: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson~ ∗Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken pieces of glass - the fibers catch the tiny ones you can't see! ∗If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips on. If the bike is stolen and later recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who owns the bike. ∗To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings. ∗Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and viola - static is gone. ∗Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. ∗Need organization in he bathroom: hang a shoe organizer on the back of the closet door to hold soaps, lotions, brushes, and such. ∗Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair! Page 26 By: Kyla Morris Here’s The Scoop is taking the Job Market and This & That Section a step further in offering you, our loyal readers, some valuable information on job hunting. This will continue throughout the weeks as we progress through the entire employment process ~ preparation, resumes, interviews, and landing the job! Do have a well-developed plan for making your career change. And don’t rush into a career change until you have thought it out and developed a strategy. Whether you are actively job-hunting, or considering the possibility, to be effective you should prepare yourself by understanding your motives in looking for a new position. If you are unemployed, this may seem quite simple. However if you are currently employed, the reasons may be something deeper than the obvious. Either way, understanding your motives in seeking new employment will help to prepare you for any awkward questions that will probably arise as your applications progress further. “What has made you look for employment with us at this particular time?” Could you answer that honestly to a potential employer? Could you give an answer that is truly genuine; enticing the interviewer to further your application? Some of the most commonly used answers, while all hold validity, most are just plain old excuses for not changing one’s own attitude. Is it your own insecurities that have you feeling like you will never be promoted? Are you contributing all that you can to your position now – are you willing to go above and beyond your listed job responsibilities? Is there a threat of redundancy with your current position?
