Fourth Sunday of Advent
YÜÉÅ à{x wxá~ Éy YÜA ]táÉÇ
Phew, I think each year our Advent journey goes from a leisurely walk to a
marathon sprint! I hope that you have taken time to slow down a bit with the various
movies, music, prayers, etc. that this season offers. If not, there is still time to
prepare him room! It is in the busiest moments that we need to take time with him.
Mother Teresa encouraged her sisters to take an extra hour to pray if their day was
too busy….maybe we need to be mindful of that example too! It is not a pie-in-the-sky thought, but
one that our world needs….to slow down, enjoy the present, and live our lives to the fullest. That
is what this season and the upcoming Christmas Season (!), which BEGINS on Christmas Day and
runs through January 12th, is all about. I know for me, I always enjoy this weekend not because of
what is coming, but what is happening. Since I have been at Prep, I have scheduled our Box
Village on the weekend before Christmas. Box Village is a homeless initiative to help us realize
when we give up everything, even in the busiest moments; we still have so much that cannot be
taken for granted. Stop down and say hi as we will be on the lawn until noon on Sunday.
The very meaning and purpose of the Advent Wreath (or any wreath for that matter) is to
symbolize continuity, connectedness, and faithfulness. A wreath is connected and ends where it
begins. We find ourselves at the pinnacle moment of our Advent journey, ending where we began.
We began our journey hearing from St. John the Baptist reminding us to “Prepare the Way of the
Lord”, and come to this weekend with the account of his birth. What is the purpose of his Witness
in our Advent Preparations? It is the same as the meaning of the Advent Wreath….faithfulness.
“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled”,
exclaimed Elizabeth. Faithfulness requires belief, and belief commands trust, but it all starts with
the Invitation from the loving God. Advent is all about that Invitation to faithfulness in our
preparation, planning, praying, and parties. This leads us to the power of our Emmanuel who is
GOD WITH US. The challenge for us is not to lose sight of this….God IS with us, no matter
what…all he asks of us is to be faithful. Perhaps one way we can live this out is to be “Elizabeth”
to one another. Reach out to someone and ask them to come with you to the root of our faith,
Jesus, in worship especially on Christmas. Sometimes it is a simple invitation that will allow others
to let the Lord into their hearts. Reach out to that neighbor, classmate, or family member who has
no one, lost someone, or that you just have not talked to in a long time. It’s never too late to reach
out!
Speaking of worship, remember that Christmas, next to Easter is the holiest day of our year
and begins a 2 week period of joy! We begin this season at St. Jude with our Christmas Eve
Masses at 4:30 pm in both the Gym and the Church, 7pm in the Church, Midnight Mass (at
Midnight), and Christmas Day at 9 am and 10:30am. Also, to prepare our hearts, our final
opportunity for Confessions here at St. Jude’s is Tuesday, December 22nd immediately following
6:30 pm Mass. If you are unable to make Confession here, St. Peter Cathedral has Confession
every day at 4:30 pm, St. Joseph/Bread of Life Parish Penance service is on Monday, December
21st at 7 pm as well. Prepare your heart and receive his mercy!
The excitement is in the air at the School as our Students (and this big kid) are looking forward to dismissal on Wednesday. A special thank you to all that helped to make Breakfast with
Santa a success as well as our Giving Tree. Our parish will allow for 450 children to receive gifts
for Christmas! This is the time of the year to share your blessings with others. It is never too late
to make that difference in the life of someone in need.
On behalf of Father Detisch, myself, Deacon Brogdon and our wonderful Parish Staff who
work very hard for us, a blessed end of Advent and a soon-to-be Merry Christmas to all!

OLCS Shares toys and monetary
gifts with Toys for Tots
The students of Our Lady’s
Christian School collected 4 large
boxes for Toys for Tots. The school
children also
raised $280.47 to
help purchase
toys for those children in
need. It is a wonderful
way to share the kindness of the Christmas
season and make a meaningful difference.
OLCS Christmas Fair is fun for all ages…
You are never too old to enjoy the Christmas
spirit and Santa Claus. Last Friday, children were
shopping and volunteers gave
so generously of their time,
talent and treasure to make
the day special.
Laughter, face painting,
pizzelle baking and holiday cheer filled the school the
entire day.

Our annual parish collection of items for the Warming Center, sponsored by the Mental Health
Association, and for St. Patrick’s Haven, a ministry of Sisters of St. Joseph. Both of these
facilities provide shelter and services for the homeless of our community. This year’s collection will take
place on January 9th and 10th. We will also share items collected with the Veteran’s
Miracle Center.
The agencies need the following items:
soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, lotions, lip balm, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and single
serving, wrapped snacks.
Small/ sample/ travel size personal care items are preferred. ALL ITEMS MUST BE
NEW AND UNOPENED.
Towels and blankets are needed, as well as warm clothing items:
Sweatshirts, hoodies, sweatpants (size L and XL requested by St. Patrick’s Haven),
gloves, hats, scarves, t-shirts, socks, jackets and sweaters. Clothing items must be new or
gently used, clean items. Only NEW underwear items will be accepted.
The Collection will be held at all church entrances. If you have any questions, please call Mary
Cardot, 838-7256. Thank you for your continued generosity.
