After the State first announced plans for a new bridge in 1999 there
were 11 years of dysfunction
× Spent $88 million taxpayer dollars
× 430 meetings
× 150 concepts
× Never made it past the planning phase
In 18 months, under Governor Cuomo,
the project moved from dysfunction to construction
 New plan fast-tracked: October 2011
 Design-build law signed: December 2011
 DEIS published: January 2012
 Project labor agreement reached: June 2012
 Bridge proposals submitted: July 2012
 FEIS approved: September 2012
 Mass Transit Task Force created: December 2012
 Notice to proceed issued: January 2013
 Permanent pile construction: October 2013
 $1.6B TIFIA loan signed: December 2013
THE NEW NY BRIDGE
 Best proposal price for toll payers: $3.142 billion
 Shortest construction time: 5 Years, 2.5 months
 Least dredging: approx. 951,000 cubic yards
 Will not need major structural repairs for 100 years
 Reduces congestion with 8 traffic lanes, express
bus lanes, emergency lanes, EZ Pass upgrades
 Includes a bike / pedestrian path
 Built ready for future bus rapid transit and rail
 Total project cost: approx. $3.9 billion
