The workshop will investigate how to use available music, from the earliest times to the present, in order to stimulate composition and improvisation. All sessions will include extensive work in improvisation. The music selected will cover a range of examples, including recently composed songs which have earned and maintained popularity amongst music lovers. Applications of the material to classroom teaching will be demonstrated and there will be plenty of opportunity for argument and debate. Treatment of dissonance pentatonic, diatonic and chromatic scales 3. Improvisations over drones other than fifths. 4.
