Adventurers can enjoy artificial waves, two slides, “Mountain River”, massages and back-stream jets in the pools. Wooden Bridge over the River Rīva The old wooden bridge as a significant wooden object from donations was renovated in 2000 in order to preserve the evidence of the skills of carpenters and engineers to construct wooden stanchion bridges. The wooden bridge over River Rīva has a status of newly discovered cultural monuments and it is the longest wooden stanchion bridge in Latvia. Viewing tower by the Usma Lake Those who are not afraid from high, can take a look at the beautiful landscape of Usma Lake and its islands from 26.5 m high viewing tower on the Ūdru hill by the Usma Lake. 4 13 13 17 27. Moricsala Nature Reserve Moricsala Nature Reserve is founded in 1912 and it is one of the protected natural territories in the Europe. Vasenieku Natural Swamp Trail, Viewing Tower and Cycling Route in Puze In order to explore the flora and fauna and inhabitants of swamp special 4 km trail have been set up in one of the swaps of “Stiklu purvs” – “Vasenieku purvs”. Jostnieku Stone (Jostnieku dižakmens) This giant can be found in the Ziru parish in the Ventspils County. It is 2 m high, but girth – 15.6 m. 31. Vendzavu Mill Lake (Dzirnavezers) Here old wall and locks of the old mill by the lake reminds of the old mill. This is nice place for recreation by the nature. 10 11 32. Stone Hill Devil’s Foot (Akmeņkalnu velnapēda) This stone is considered oldest boundrymark of parishes Dundaga, Ance and Puze. The high of stone is 3.3 m, length – 5.7 m, width 7 m, and girth 17.3 m. It is considered as cult stone because its upper part has several dints – so called feet of devil. The stone is in a protection of the country from 1925. 33. “Devil’s Chair”(Velna krēls) or Grīžu Devil’s Bench (Grīžu velna beņķis) Gigantic stone in a shape of an enormous chair is one of the biggest and most beautiful stones in Latvia. Once it served as boundrymark between the Cournian and Liv lands and it is 3.5 m high with 17 m girth. “Devil’s Chair” is located in Tārgale parish in Ventspils County. 34.Water Tourism Route of the River Irbe The River Irbe is only 32 km long, but its unique sand coastline is almost in an absolute isolation from civilization and this is one of the most popular water tourism places in Latvia. Užava Lighthouse One of the most beautiful lighthouses in Latvia can be found in the scenic beach of Užava, where dune piles in some places reach 30 m high. Ventspils Skate Park Dynamic town also takes care of extreme activities loving sportsmen. This is one of the up-to-dated skate parks in the Eastern Baltic for trainings and large scale events in roller skating, velo freestyle and skate board. Nice feature for all visitors – the use of Skate Park is free of charge. During autumn and winter season indoor skate park is opened. Cycling Trails in the City of Ventspils Every self-respectful city has cycling trails. Little ones and adults can take their bicycles and have a wonderful ride along the cycling trails through all parts of the Ventspils –along the ponds with beautiful water lilies in Seaside Park, along the new route of narrow gauge train “Mazbānītis” up to the Adventure Park and then back to the heart of the town along the Saules street. If you want more winding route you can choose trails of the Riņķa and Tērauda street, but for longest ride – cycling routes of the renovated bridge of River Venta and Embūtes street. 12 11 22 12. Ventspils Cow Parade Ventspils has own symbolic animals – the cows. They are seven participants of the International Art and Patronage Project Ventspils Cow Parade 2002. On the Ostas Street Promenade you can meet “The Latvian Black” cow, on the Prāmju street in the lamp pole climbs cow “Towards the Light”, by the basketball hall pastures cow “Ms.Moo-Dunk”, at the Children’s Town everyone is pleased by the cow “Life is Beautiful”, by the Livonian Castle resides “The Sea Cow”, cow “Oil” takes care of the students of the Children’s House “Selga”, but at the Seaside Camping in the pine forest lounges “The London Cow”. Subsequently these cows were joined by giant “Travelling Cow”, “Ventspils Blue” or “Cow-Seaman” on South Pier and cow in the swings by the pier of the excursion boat “Hercogs Jēkabs”. 16. Ferry from Ventspils to Gotland and Saaremaa. On the first half of the year 2011 travellers will be able to go from the port of Ventspils to the port city of Gotland – Slite and to the capital of the Saaremaa – Kuressaare. This is possible in the framework of the project “The Union of Gothland-VentspilsSaaremaa for a long-term development”. This project envisages economical development of mentioned regions, providing accessibility and attraction with the help of ferry line. 12 16 14 5 4 8 11. South Pier Promenade and Viewing Tower of the Port of Ventspils Ventspils' South Pier is perfect place where to go for a long walks during every part of the day and every season. The end of the pier, where the green eye of the lighthouse looks through the gates of the sea, is ideal for watching sunsets, the calling of huge vessels at the port and the might of the stormy sea. You can have a look at the town from the bird’s eye view from the 19 meters high viewing tower. For this purpose special spyglass on the platform of the tower can be used. 15. Olympic Centre ‘Ventspils’ This is one of the most popular places of the town and it has become an impressive and active cult place pleasing professional sportsmen and active, healthy lifestyle leading inhabitants. Beach Waterpark Beach Waterpark is one of the favorite relaxation areas in the town during hot and not so hot summer days. Here you can use fun water attractions, gain beautiful, natural tanning while listening to the rumble of the sea. The Beach Waterpark offers 3 different swimming pools with warm pleasant water, various water slides, saunas and bubble baths, as well as especially for kind designed water apparatuses. Excursion Boat “Hercogs Jēkabs” This diligent excursion boat takes town’s visitors and inhabitants to a trip in the mouth of the River Venta up to the gates of the sea several times a day. Trips are available form May to October and lasts almost an hour. Tourists can take a look at the Old town, harbour and big vessels. Mini Zoo in Usma Parish Those who want to rest from daily routine and see four-legged friends is welcomed in the Mini Zoo where dwell Shetland ponies, bobak marmots, Peruvian mini pigs and other exotic animals. Particularly proud farmers are about Bird garden where Jacobin pigeons, peacocks, pheasants and other exotic birds live. Ventspils Adventure Park All leisure activities loving visitors are welcomed in the Ventspils Adventure Park. In summer park offers rope tracks “Cat’s Path” (Kaķa taka) and “Little Bear” (Lācēns), paint ball ground, a summer sledding track, forest cycling trail, inflatable attractions for children, mountain scooters and boards, bungee jumping, classical trampolines, electrical bulls, dizzy kicking swings, rides with rope, rent of electromobiles and other fun activities. There are also picnic areas, cafeteria, spyglass for viewing the scenery and possibility to rent bicycles. In wintertime skiing hill “Lembergs’ Trilby” (Lemberga hūte) with Snowboard Park, cross-country skiing track and sledding track works in the Adventure Park. Horse Riding Sports Club “Demora” Horse Riding Club offers horse rides, rides in carriages and sledges, and it also participates in festivities and offers professional services to the enthusiasts of horse riding. Usma Lake with Sailboat Harbour Usma Lake is popular place for recreation, fishing and sailing and here is located the only inland water sailboat harbour in Latvia. The Usma Lake is proud for the largest lake island in Latvia - Viskūžu Island. 7. Children’s Park “Fantasy” and Forest Path (Meža taka) On the right coast of the River Venta children are pleased with interesting playground attractions in the Children’s Park “Fantasy”, and just like in the Children’s Town, fun and interesting events for children are held on Sundays. The Blue Cow in the farm “Zītari” It is easy to find farm “Zītari” if you look closely to the road and look for the sign ‘Zītari’ in the steep coast line of Jūrkalne. This is the place where you can find the Blue Cow, taste delicious milk and await beautiful sunset on the mighty steep coastline. 6. Children’s Town More than 40 different playground devices are placed in the Children’s Town for children from little age up to the teen years. Here you can have little snack in the café “Pepija”, discover new cities on the big globe and attend events for children on Sundays. Steep Coastline of Jūrkalne This is one of the scenic seashores of the Baltic Sea in Latvia with impressive steep coastline 20 metres high. Here also you can find memorial tablet “Sail of Hope” dedicated to refugees who fled to Sweden during World War II as well as a symbolic stone marking the final western point of Latvia on the 57°00' parallel. Flower Clock and Flower Sculptures of Ventspils The flowers of Ventpils are one of the brightest testimony of the beauty of Ventspils. Here flower clock counts minutes and seconds in its flower clock-face and informs the inhabitants and visitors of the town about the time. Also here you can meet sporting bobsledders from the “Bobsleigh team” (Bobsleja komanda), colorful flowerbed “Ladybirds” (Mārītes) residing by the River Venta on the Osta street promenade. In the Children’s Town you can chat with the cheerful “Duck family” (Pīļu ģimene) and hear the story of flower fishes from the “Underwater world” (Zemūdens pasaule). Steep Coastline of Staldzene Favourite place for long walks for inhabitants of Ventpils and its visitors who love not only the chic of the city, but also wild sea coastline, pine forest and air smelling by smoked fish. 3. Reņķa Garden Wonderful summer open-air parties, centenarian trees and fountain heading towards the skies are not the only values of this park. Here you can find different sculptural objects for fun and pleasure, open-air fitness equipment for leisure activities loving visitors as well as resting benches alongside the paths. Deer Garden of Ventspils The Deer Garden by the Būšnieku Lake is home for red deer, roes and a crowd of wild boars and visitors can take a look at them from the 6.5 metres high observation tower. Ventspils Blue Flag Beach and Surfers Beach The beach of Ventspils is a quality easy to get used to with its white sand, children’s attractions, sporting areas, swimming possibilities in the Baltic Sea and relaxation and sunbathing in the wide dunes. There is separate area for surfers and the Blue Flag certificate assures that beach meets all international quality standards. 2. Seaside Park (Jūrmalas parks) with Anchor and Jungle Trail Everyone is welcomed to enjoy romantic picnic by the ponds with beautiful water lilies or slowly wonder along the Anchor Trail with more than 100 exhibits in the Seaside Park. And there is no better places where to get know the laws of the jungle than in the Jungle Trail while climbing from one plank to another surrounded by the peculiar wooden sculptures. Ovīšu Lighthouse The Ovīšu Lighthouse is high and snow-white, but invisible behind the tops of the pine trees. It is built in 1814 and it is the oldest nautical building in Latvia. Enclosures for Wild Livestock in parishes Krievrags and Bērzciems In the framework of introduction of project of Nature protection, 140 ha of coastal meadows were renovated in the Engure Lake Nature Park. The Maritime Meadow About 51 ha maritime meadow is rare considering conditions in Latvia and unique protected biotope of the Gulf of Riga in the coastline of Courland. Mērsrags Foreland This foreland is 18 ha wide dry land bulge on the western coast of the Gulf of Rīga. Historic Trail of the Hill Bašķiņkalns The owners of country house ‘Kalnmalas’ offer to visit archaeological monument – hill fort of Bašķiņalns. Meadow Golf, Paintball and Boat Rides in River Roja There are six golf bunkers in green lawn, rent of golf inventory available, services of professional trainer and local instructor, seasonal membership cards and competitions. Nature Monument ‘Kaltenes Kalvas’ About 1.5 km from the beach of Kaltene in the wood there are huge stones which in Latvian are called ‘Kalvas’. It is protected nature monument of national importance. There are no similar formations anywhere in Latvia. Natural scientists believe that they formed thousand years ago when Baltic Ice Lake receded. Visitors can choose two hiking routes in order to explore this unique formation – 800 m and 1.5 km long. It has also niches and springs and together it stretches 400 m and reaches almost 6 m in high. Nature Trail ‘The White Dune of Pūrciems’ The 900 m trail is located on the coast of the River Pilsupe. Orchid (‘Orchidaceae’) Trail The flood-land meadows, the grassy bogs, and the damp forests of the Lake Engure Nature Park can boast with the versatility of the orchid species – in the area of Engure, there are 22 of the 32 orchid species growing in Latvia. Sightseeing tower on the hill Kamparkalns and skiing trails The hill Kamparkalns is located 174 m above sea level, but the sightseeing tower is 28 m high. In wintertime there are two alighted skiing tracks available for visitors, but a guest house is opened all year long. Cape Kolka (Kolkasrags) and Pine Nature Trail Cape Kolka is a narrow earth cape where two seas meet – Irbe Strait (Irbes jūras šaurums) of the Baltic Sea or the Big Sea (Dižjūra) and the Gulf of Rīga or the Little Sea (Mazjūra). Nearby 1.2 km long Pine trees nature trail is located and here you can explore the change of dunes thought the years. Slītere Lighthouse Slītere Lighthouse is built in 1849 and it is the second oldest nautical building in Latvia. Now it is opened for visitors. Ēvaži Steep and Nature Trail You have to hike along 300 m long trail by the highway Rīga-Kolka at the very border of Slītere National Park in order to see 8-15 m high Ēvaži Steep of the coastline of the Gulf of Riga. The routes ‘Liv Villages’ ( ) and ‘Slītere Circle’ ( ) in a length of 28 and 50 km suitable for active tourists who are interested in coastal landscapes and the culture of the Liv people. The route ‘Kolkasrags Circle’ meant for hikers who want a bit more than just a stroll from the car park to a popular destination. In the route ‘Along the seashore and coast’ ( ) every hiker can plan a route that is in line with his or her abilities and interests, because the territory of the Slītere National Park has a sandy beach that is around 40 kilometres long and is appropriate for short hikes or ones that take several days. 55. The route ‘Learn about Mazirbe’ is meant for active hikers. It covers Mazirbe and its surroundings. Pedvāle Open-Air Art Museum The museum is a cultural monument of national importance and is a part of the specially protected cultural historical territory – the Abava Valley. The Open Air Art Museum was first created by the one of the most popular sculptors of Latvia – Ojārs Arvīds Feldbergs who in this way was able to realize his idea about land art park also in Latvia. More courage and adventurous tourists can try cableways across the River Abava. Here are enclosures for wild livestock, it is possible to rent boats for a trip in the River Abava and try wine of Sabile in the cosy wine cellar. Waterfall Virsaiši and Nature Trail This waterfall was nominated as the object of geology of 2010. It is located on the right bank of River Virbupe, near the ‘Virsaiši’ house and here also is 1 km long nature trail. It starts just behind the seed-plot ‘Mazsili’ by the road Stende – Sabile. Along the trail it is possible to enjoy not only 1.7 m high waterfall, but also untouched nature on the coasts of little spring which is real paradise for beavers. Recreation in ‘Godeļpols’: rope track, quadracycles, water skiing and winter recreation Rope track ‘Godeļpols’ is set up in trees and on the ground offering leisure activities for kids and adults.
