Choreography Rules:
1. Solos & Duet Time limit 3Minutes (incl. entrance/exit)
2.All competitors must possess a valid Scotdance card.
3.Open to all premier dancers,Dancer(s) may enter choreography independently of competition providing they hold a
valid Scotdance card and pay SDNB fee.
4.Content should consist primarily of Highland dance movements, with a limited influence from other dance forms.
5.Costume(s), music and props (if used) must be Celtic/Highland in nature.
6.Deductions for exceeding the time limits will be at the discretion of the judge.
7.Dancer(s) must provide music on a clearly labeled CD – only 1 track per CD.
8.Duets must consist of dancers from the same school.

points both days(excluding special dances).
Competition Rules: Please read carefully:
1.The competition will be governed by the rules of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing.
Competitors MUST SHOW a current S.O.B.H.D. registration card at the admission gate and dance registration
table.
2. There will be NO REFUNDS. Maximum 125 dancers.
3. Classes will be divided after all entries have been received. The FHDA Competition Committee reserves the
right to combine, split dependant on the number of entries.
4. Decision of the judge will be final. No persons other then members of the competition committee shall
communicate with the judge. Any complaint must be in writing with the complainant’s signature, accompanied
by $25.00 & submitted no later than 24hrs. After the event. The fee will be forfeited if the complaint is not
upheld.
5. FOLLOW THE FIRST TO ENTER LAST TO DANCE RULE
6.. Dancers must remain in appropriate costume for awards(including slippers).
7. As per SOBHD rules, there must be at least 6 competitors who have competed in their individual age
group before their aggregate points can qualify to determine the overall winner. If there are less than 6
competitors in any individual dance then points gained in that dance will not be included in the total
Aggregate points for the overall award, therefore a HA trophy will not be awarded.
8. Dancers must report promptly when called to the lineup area or risk disqualification.
9. No coaching by teachers or parents while dancers are in the lineup area or on stage.
10 Designated changing areas will be provided. There is to be no changing in public areas nor will dancers be
permitted to be in public areas wearing bra tops or sports bras with dickies.
11.. Please ensure dancers are ready to dance when they arrive in the line-up area as marshalls are not permitted
to fix costumes.
12. Absolutly no flash photography or spectators in dance tent.
13. Winners of special events or one!dance events such as a Trophy Fling,Cake Walk, or Choreography event
DO NOT qualify as an overall trophy win and will not count toward dancer of the day/weekend.
14. Dancers must fill in for reel if requested
15.IMPORTANT: No status (category) changes will be accepted the day of the competition. Status changes

16.Beginner only receive stamps for the Fling, Sword, Seann Triubhas, and Reel (no stamp for nationals)

Linda started dancing at the age of six and had the honor of training under the expert eye of Miss Elspeth
Strathern for the whole of her competitive and professional training. During her competitive career she won all
major British championship titles. Her ultimate success was achieved when she won the World Championship
title three times, Junior in 1973 and Senior in 1975 and 1977.
In the interests of Highland Dancing, Linda has travelled extensively worldwide, competing, lecturing and
judging. She is a Member of the BATD, a Fellow of the UKA and a Fellow and Examiner with the SDTA. She
also has a teaching qualification from the Royal Country Dance Society.
Linda is currently ScotDance Canada’s head delegate to the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing in
Edinburgh and serves on the Board’s Registration, Disciplinary and Quality Assurance Committees.Linda has
been involved in Highland Dancing now for over thirty years and ran her own dancing school in both Glasgow
and Beith. She is currently Principal Teacher of Pupil Support at Garnock Academy, one of the largest high
schools in the west of Scotland.
