Virginia Commonwealth University, centered in the city of Richmond, enrolled 30,300 undergraduate, graduate and health professional students on its two campuses during the 2007 fall term. The Medical College of Virginia Campus is located near the government and financial centers of Richmond, while the Monroe Park Campus is situated two miles west of the Fan District. The Fan, which is said to have the largest intact community of Victorian structures in the nation, is also well known for its variety of shops and cafes. VCU’s highly regarded School of the Arts ranks among the top three art schools in the United States. VCU is also composed of the College of Humanities and Sciences, which includes the School of Mass Communications, and the Schools of Allied Health Professions, the Arts, Business, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Social Work. VCU offers 57 baccalaureate degrees, 66 master’s degrees and 26 doctoral degrees, as well as first professional degrees in dentistry, pharmacy and medicine. Richmond, the capital of Virginia since 1779 and home to more than 200,000 people, is located in central Virginia on both sides of the James River. Local sports attractions include: VCU Athletics, AAA baseball with the Richmond Braves, SPHL hockey with the Richmond Renegades, USL-Second Division soccer with the Richmond Kickers and NASCAR and IndyCar racing at Richmond International Raceway. Richmonders also enjoy the many performing theater companies and a variety of concerts that come to the area. Located at 1200 West Broad Street, the 7,500-seat Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center is the home for VCU men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. This first-class facility is only part of VCU’s effort to give the northern edge of the academic campus a facelift, making VCU a more visible part of Richmond. 3 VCU Athletic Department Directory - Area Code (804) Norwood Teague Jeff Cupps DeTrease Harrison Andrew Hartley Pat Stauffer Mike Ellis Justin Harris Tim Lampe Keith Rafter Nate Doughty Chris Kowalczyk Beverly Hopcroft Director of Athletics Senior Associate Athletic Director Assistant Athletic Director for Fiscal Affairs Asst.
