CAP-IT BUILDS . . . a Project ARB Jeep TJ
GENUINE TRUCKWARE CAP-IT BUILDS . . . a Project ARB Jeep TJ Cap-it Jeep Build Out - ARB gets Cap-it® to build a Project Jeeps are a great platform to build from and we sell some of the best products in the industry for this project. On this build were going to be outfitting our Jeep with just about every conceivable ARB Product they make including Old Man Emu Suspension. As for the finishing touches we’ll throw some Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels, Bushwacker Flares, Daystar Jeep Products and much more goodies. After the Jeep is finished it will be Mason Funk travelling around our 15 locations for viewing and also be hitting the trails. Director of Special Projects Our Build starts with a 97 Jeep TJ Sport that has 240,000kms on a 80,000km rebuilt Fuel Injected 6 cylinder 5spd for just under $4000. It was a daily commuter from Vancouver to Whistler. We found out that the frame was totally rusted so we bought a better frame from the auto Wreckers After a few days of searching the local Off-Road forums to no avail, we lucked out and picked up a near new frame at a local wrecking yard for $400. This saved us a ton of work as we didn’t have to send the new frame out to get media blasted and powder coated. Now for the fun part. From ARB we’re going to be using OLD MAN EMU’s 4” Front and Rear Coils and Extended Length Nitrocharger Sport Twin Tube shocks. Old Man Emu has always been known for their 2-2½” lifts, but when it comes to the Jeep TJ & JK’s they offer a 4” application for those who want more lift. This 4” application is not a full kit, so we’re going to Daystar and some other products to make it complete. 44 CAP-IT.COM Since our 4” lift kit does not come with extended short arms, we’re going to use DAYSTAR’s Poly Flex Control Arms. These are arms are sweet. They come with grease able Spherical Ball Joints for better articulation and they’re fully rebuild able too. For around $1200 it’s a great investment for those who want the most out of their Jeep. To make additional room for our 35” tires, we’re adding a 1” body lift from DAYSTAR. This kit isn’t your normal body lift. The kit comes complete with new urethane lower body mounts and upper mounts that are 1” taller than stock. There’s no messing around with the typical plastic pucks anymore. Also another good reason for the extra 1” is for ease of cleaning the mud and dirt off between the frame and body. Here we are now on the start of the gear assembly. We are going to a 4.56 gear ratio to match up with the 35” tall tires along with all new bearings. Now it’s Paint Time !! We’ve gone Old School and painted the Jeep a 1970 Dodge Challenger Sublime Green with a 2 tone Flat Black Hood. This color is WICKED!! ..... It’s better than I thought it be and it’ll definitely turn heads when driving down the road. Besides, we gotta keep the color within the Mopar family. Check out the Cap-it Build blog for more details. 45 GENUINE TRUCKWARE Mason Funk CAP-IT BUILDS . . . a race inspired Baja Prerunner Truck Director of Special Projects So it’s time to anti-up and build a vehicle that represents how our aftermarket accessories are put to the test on the track, for us to enjoy knowing they are going to last on our daily drivers. We’ve enlisted the support from our Manufactures like, Tuff Country Suspensions, Rigid Industries, Mickey Thompson, King Shocks, Fiberwerx, TR Beadlocks and many more to kick-start this project into high gear. Original 2004 F150 We enlisted our old retired 2004 F150 with 280,000kms in which it had a blown transmission, to go under the knife. First things first, let’s get rid of the stock fender. There's about a million spot welds holding these panels on so we invested in a spot weld removal drill bit to make life much easier. On go the Fiberwerx Fenders. As you can see there's a huge difference in fender coverage. The fender descriptions say 4.5" bulge and judging by this, we can definitely see it. Cap-it Baja Prerunner Truck Build To handle the abuse we contacted King Racing out of California, gave them some specs on the truck and they took it from there. For the front suspension we’re using the 2.5” x10” Performance Race Series, 800lb rated coils with remote reservoirs. 46 As for controlling the compression travel we’re adding 2.5”x4” Bump Stops stroked to 3” with a 1” internal spacer. This will provide a very smooth compression stop. For the rears we went for the OE Performance Series piggyback shocks. Since we’re keeping the rear suspension stock, we’ve kept the shock travel the same length. We’ll also add some rear bumps stops to it as well to cushion the compression travel. CAP-IT.COM Mickey Thompson supplied us with a set of 37” Baja ATZp3 tires which our mounted on Trailready’s Beadlock wheels. To tighten up the 24 bolts to the ring, just like a tire you alternate in a criss-cross pattern which give you even pressure around the seal. We ordered up from ADD (Addictive Desert Design) a Stealth front bumper and a Race Series Tire Carrier rear bumper, all in raw steal. You can order them up in a black powder coat, but we're going to have ours painted red. Time to get our F150 looking like a true Trophy Truck. We took it down to BR Wraps in Abbotsford BC to work their magic. It Turned out great! Now we need to rip it up and see what’s it’s capable of doing. Check out our Cap-it Build Blog to see more. Build complete 47 GENUINE TRUCKWARE Mason Funk CAP-IT BUILDS . . . a Jeep Wrangler 4dr JK Director of Special Projects Our Cap-it Team is always looking for vehicles to outfit. This time we have chosen the ever so popular Jeep Wrangler JK for our next build. Why you ask… to make it unique from other Jeeps and to personalize it to our lifestyle. Accessories & Products used in this build: ARB: Diff Covers, drear slide drawer, Old Man Emu: 4” lift kit, OR-FAB: Front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, rocker armour Mickey Thompson: 37x12.5x20 ATZp3 tires MHT Wheel: 20x10 Adrenaline wheels Bushwacker: Flat Fenders Westin: T-Maxx 9500 winch Additional accessories: GOBI roof rack, LED Lighting, cosmetic interior upgrades A complete teardown in removing the flares, bumpers and running boards makes it a clean slate for installing accessories. First we install the 4” OME lift kit. Next up is the OR FAB Stinger front bumper. To match we installed the rear bumper along with the rear swing away tire carrier and roto-pack fuel packs. 48 CAP-IT.COM To complete the protection, we added rocker bars along with side armour for that extreme off road look. By removing the doors and taking some of the interior trim out allow the use of c-clamps to hold the side armour for marking out the holes. Once you drill out all the holes, the install kit supplies you with crush nuts in which you bolt the armour to due to the double wall in the body. As for the front fender, it’s a single panel so all you have to do is loosen it off so you’re able get your hand in there to tighten up the hardware. For added looks we painted the out lip of the MHT wheels and interior accent pieces to match the Jeep. This really takes on a whole new look in personalizing. We turn our attention to the interior. As you know there isn’t much for securing belongings or gear. So we installed a Outback 2 drawer system from ARB. Full roller bearings for ease of use and stops the drawers from rattling around. Large lockable handle with marine style carpet lines the galvanized construction. As you can see our Jeep JK project is coming along great. We’re still in the works in adding more accessories. Check out our Cap-it Build Blog to see more. 49 GENUINE TRUCKWARE CAP-IT BUILDS . . . a 1923 T Bucket Hot Rod Hank Funk Founder & Chairman Cap-it T Bucket Build The whole idea behind the project was to build the ‘23 T bucket as a pick-up truck promoting Cap-it, and its “Genuine Truckware” accessories. It will be available to franchisees show & shine events, parades and car shows. We’re building a true Ford - Ford everything. Ford 9” rear end, Ford axles, spindles and brakes, Ford body and pick-up box, Ford gauges and Ford engine. It appeared to me that every T Bucket out there had a small block Chevy in it - not that I care, but in my mind a 1923 Ford T- Bucket is a Ford. What’s a Chevy engine doing in a Ford anyway? Why go to all the work and not do it right. Seeing that T buckets became so popular in the late 60’s I decided to put in a late 60’s Ford engine – a mustang 351 Cleveland – very rare indeed - parts like pistons have to be machined – you don’t buy them off the shelf, most Cleveland parts cost many more times than other engines but it’s reminiscent to those hot muscle cars of late 60’s. It was introduced in 1969 as Ford’s new performance engine and was built through the end of 1974 model year. It incorporated elements learned on the 385 big-block series and the Boss 302, particularly the poly-angle combustion chambers with canted valves and thin-wall casting technology. Inside the block are large main bearings for durability with 4 bolt mains. Reduced demand for large engines due to fuel economy regulations led to the abandonment of the Cleveland production line. Time to mount the big boots: 31 X 18 Mickey Thomson Tires on rear 26 X 8 Mickey Thomson Tires on front Power Train Specifications We want to be able to have enough horse power to spin those 18” soft wide tires without too much effort. After all an engine looking as powerful as this one has got to do something other than to look good. 50 • • • • • • • • • 1969 - 351 Cleveland Ford 10:7:1 Compression ratio Race Cam 2 – 4 barrel Edelbrock 500 CFM carbs Weiand Dragster Tunnel Ram Edelbrock – water pump Polished valve covers MSD Distributor MSD Blaster Coil • • • • • • MSD Plug wires Mastertorque starter Chrome alternator March Billet brackets & pulleys A comfortable 400 horsepower engine Ford C4 automatic transmission with a (2500 – 2800) torque converter • 4:56 gears CAP-IT.COM Cap-it 1923 T Bucket Hot Rod 51
