This month’s fair has 413 exhibitor booths, representing more than a 20% increase over the previous show. “For the three-day event, we have arranged a large number activities. It will be a fun show with a carnival-like atmosphere where friends and families can have a good time, while getting the best holiday deals,” says Steven Lek, executive director of the show organizer, National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS). “NATAS Holidays has been a recognized brand in Singapore since 1987,” says Lek, adding that the NATAS Holidays travel fair is an important event for Singaporeans planning their holidays. Singapore’s outbound travel market has been performing well, thanks in part to a rising Singapore dollar and increased air services to Singapore, says Lek. Keeping travellers safe and healthy At this year’s show, for the first time, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) will be raising travelling public’s awareness for travel-related vaccinations and health matters. This is part of a broader initiative by NATAS and TTSH to educate about essential travel health matters and to help travellers be prepared, safe and well for their trips. Adjunct Associate Professor Lim Poh Lian, Head and Senior Consultant of the Travellers’ Health and Vaccination Clinic, TTSH said “Most travellers don’t usually think they will fall ill while travelling, but this does happen occasionally. With good travel medical advice, travellers can travel safely and with a peace of mind.” “With emerging diseases or unfamiliar health risks, certain locations present challenges. It is important to get sound travel advice and there are a number of travel related vaccinepreventable diseases. Ideally, travellers should get vaccinated 4-6 weeks before departure,” added A/Prof Lim. “Travellers need to know how to protect themselves and their families against these diseases. It is also one’s social responsibility to not bring back diseases that spread to others. Travel allows us to enjoy other cultures and has the potential to broaden our horizons. With good travel medicine advice and appropriate vaccinations, we hope everyone will travel well and return home with wonderful memories,”said A/Prof Lim who also heads the TTSH Infectious Diseases Department that plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Singapore’s public health. TTSH will have on-site nurses on duty to provide any short travel and vaccination advices about their travel from 6 – 930pm on Friday (31 July), 2- 6 pm on both Saturday & Sunday (1 – 2 August).
