Upcoming Events Page 5 Workforce Development Board Executive Director Jennifer Meek Eells and U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs In a letter to OMJ Recruiting Specialist Anita Rutledge, Evelon Littleton, Human Resource Manager for Dutchman Hospitality Group, Inc, said “I just wanted to tell you how successful the job fair in Tuscarawas County was for me. I was able to set up three interviews at the fair and we’ve already hired one of those. In addition there were three to four other applicants that I was able to send to our location for interviews,” she added. According to Haer the Stark County Sheriff’s Office received 17 applications from solid candidates that they would be following up on. The sheriff’s office was at the fair to recruit dispatchers, correction officers and deputies. “This was our tenth Tuscarawas County Job Fair, and we want to thank Congressman Gibbs, the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, WJER Radio and Goodwill Industries for partnering with us. Each partner contributed greatly to the promotion and execution of this successful event,” said Jennifer Meek Eells, Executive Director of the Workforce Development Board. “WJER Radio has been a partner since our very first Tuscarawas County Job Fair, and we were pleased to have on-air personality Bill Morgan host a three-hour live broadcast from the fair,” said Monica Rose Gwin, Public Relations Specialist for OMJ Centers. In addition to circulating over 1,000 flyers, Goodwill Industries was able to secure a $250 donation from Great Clips for coupons for haircuts to help job seekers prepare for the job fair. Wendy’s also assisted in promoting the event by placing information on table tent cards in all of their area restaurants and posting it on their exterior signage. A week prior to the event OMJ hosted two “Stand Out From the Crowd” workshops that helped job seekers learn what to do before, during and after the job fair. Both sessions were well attended. The program, which is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, offers a series of eight free workshops once a week. Each workshop will last one hour, starting at 11:15 a.m. Participants of the EFNEP classes will learn the basics of making healthy food choices while being on a budget. Each week the participants will get to take home a food preparation tool to help them live a healthier lifestyle. Participants will also get the chance to make a nutritional snack during each class. The class is free and open to the public. The dates of the workshops are June 6, June 13, June 20, June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25, and August 1. If an individual attends all eight workshops, they will receive a graduation certificate. Individuals interested in attending the workshops can call OhioMeansJobs Stark County at 330-433-9675 and sign up to hold their seat. Very useful information.” Get it from...The Source Page 4 WIA Scholarship Sessions Scheduled in June T he Workforce Initiative Association will be holding scholarship information sessions in May and June. 2016 for individuals that will begin training as of August, September, or October, 2016. Residents of Stark and Tuscarawas Counties interested in attending a session should follow these guidelines: • • • • • You must be a resident of Stark or Tuscarawas Counties You must be considered a dislocated worker or a displaced homemaker; or meet income guidelines to qualify (Eligibility may be determined at a later date) You should have already made a decision as to the type of training of interest to you. (Please visit the Resource Room for career exploration information if you have not yet decided.) College students seeking a degree must be able to graduate by the end of this school year. Scholarships are not available for those just starting a degree program Please do not bring children to the session During these sessions, attendees will be given information about the WIA Scholarship Program and the application process. Those individuals who wish to be considered for the WIA Scholarship Program will be given an eligibility application at the session to complete. They also must know the family income for the previous six months. Funding is limited. Pre-registration is not required to attend.
