He continued to teach at the Center every year for the next nineteen years until he passed away in 2007. This exhibition and sale of Sovek’s work at the Creative Arts Center will be on display during the month of July with an opening reception on Saturday, July 9, from 5-8 p.m. Thereafter, Charles will be represented by Gallery Antonia in Chatham where there will be an opening reception on Wednesday, August 10, from 6-8 p.m. This collection of vivid paintings in oil, acrylic, and watercolor record Charles’ extensive travels throughout the United States and Europe. Charles Sovek was an Emeritus Member of the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America, for it was painting on location that he truly loved. He was the author of six books including the popular Catching Light in Your Paintings and Oil Painting: Develop Your Natural Ability. As a contributing editor to The Artist’s Magazine, he wrote dozens of feature articles. He was also the subject of a PBS special entitled “Plein Air Painting in America” which featured Cape Cod and its role in plein air painting today. This exhibition is titled “Favorite Paintings” and are from the Sovek family collection. It is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see the work of this prolific, award-winning painter.
