Artwork by local artist, Brian Vigue. March 20 - April 22 Waterville Public Library 73 Elm Street Waterville, ME 04901 (207) 872-5433 MOJAS SPONSORED BY: PO Box 2703 Waterville, Maine 04903 HTTPS://www.fb.com/WAASMaine Our History In 1986 four local artists --Pat Binette, Marilyn Dwelley, Pauline Turner, and Peggy Stowers --founded the Waterville Area Art Society. Their mission, in part, was to stimulate the awareness of the visual arts in the Waterville area, exchange ideas, encourage beginners, steer young art students to the correct path for future development in a career in art or just for the enjoyment of art or to consider art as a second profession. The society would group area artists for an environment of creativity for Waterville and surrounding towns. The first meeting of the Waterville Area Art Society was held in September,1986 and had eighteen charter members. Presently the Society has sixty members. Membership Membership is open to any artist, non-artist or business for an annual fee of $20 ($30 family), renewable in January. To become a member of the Waterville Area Art Society, please visit our Facebook page at HTTPS://www.fb.com/WAASMaine for information. Meetings The Waterville Area Art Society meets the first Thursday of each month September- June at 6:00 PM in the Waterville Public Library Colby Room, 73 Elm Street, Waterville. WAAS Board Members Amy K. Cyrway, President Ann Rhinehardt, Vice President David Witham, Treasurer Patricia Binette, Secretary Don Abrams, Member at Large Brian Vigue, Member at Large Welcome Waterville Main Street, Waterville Area Art Society & Waterville Public Library are thrilled to co-present the 2016 Maine Open Juried Art Show at the Waterville Public Library in Downtown Waterville. Those who have been celebrating art with us over the years will recall the Waterville Art Society held its first Maine Open Juried Art Show in 1990. The purpose of the show is to promote art awareness and to provide an art competition in Central Maine. This year’s show drew registrations from 95 artists from 53 towns, with a total of 177 paintings entered. The judges chose 129 original paintings for exhibition and awarded 29 prizes totaling $2950.00. This was possible through the generosity of local sponsors. This year our sponsors are: Colby Museum of Art, FrameMakers, Kennebec Savings Bank, Kennebec Wealth Management & Maine State Credit Union. Please support these business. We hope you enjoy this year’s show. Judges Born in Waterville, Bruce Hutchison received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design in 1980.
