As we dug deeper, we were surprised by the amount of claw meat and rich flavor of the broth. The dish couldn’t get much better ... which was noted after a few rounds of double dipping. “Delicious!” Appetizer Winner: Amici’s Cucina’s Summer Fruit Sacchettis A unique dish that included cheese filled pasta purses served with oranges and fresh blueberries. It was served with a simple sauce, but full of color and flavor. This dish could have been served as a light dessert. “An overall nice presentation.” If this was your first time trying a sacchetti, we bet you’ll try it again! Honorable mention to MaineGeneral Medical Center for the creamy haddock chowder and well executed Strawberry Salad composed of local greens, pecans, chunks of cheese and tossed with a light poppy seed dressing. Sandwich Winner: Inland Hospital’s Lobster Reuben This creative sandwich was served on toasted rye bread with a generous amount of lobster meat, a tasty cabbage slaw and melted swiss cheese. For only $5, this sandwich was a steal … it even came with kettle chips. Entrée Winner: MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Grilled Turkey & Local Veggie Kebob The Kebob was grilled to perfection accompanied by a very flavorful yogurt sauce for dipping or drizzling. The veggies spoke for themselves and added a variety of colors to the plate. All of this was plated atop of brown rice pilaf making for a great presentation that represents quality local food. Honorable mention to Pete’s Pig Southern BBQ for their incredible sampler platter. Both the ribs and pulled pork sandwich were to die for…. definitely top notch BBQ. Dessert Winner: Mainely Brews Black Raspberry Parfait On a warm summer day what more could you ask for? This dessert was layered with color and flavor. It was smooth and refreshing. The fruit was an added bonus some of it even chocolate dipped. Booth Decoration Winner: Mainely Brews It was clear that this vendor made an effort to dress up its space. Mainely Brews’ booth had white linen tablecloths, fresh flowers in large planters, and decorative décor hanging from the tent. All of the staff looked professional outfitted in matching shirts. You also couldn’t miss the lobster balloons used to attract patrons to order that lobster roll for dinner. Care & Comfort began providing professional services from a one room office in Waterville with a staff of two. Founded by Susan D. Giguere, today it has five offices statewide, including its headquarters in Waterville. Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area (HVWA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1980 that serves 27 communities in central Maine.
