CAS COOVADIA MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE BANKING ASSOCIATION SOUTH AFRICA Coovadia is the Banking Association of SA’s managing director. He is the chairman of the National Business Initiative and treasurer of the African Union for Housing Finance. He also serves on the board of the Centre for Development and Enterprise. Coovadia is the first deputy president of the International Union for Housing Finance and served as its president for five years. He is a member of the University of Witwatersrand’s council and is also on the board of the Nepad Business Foundation and Business Unity SA. He is also the chairman of the Johannesburg Development Agency. ANDILE NGCABA EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN OF DIMENSION DATA MIDDLE EAST & AFRICA Andile Ngcaba is the Executive Chairman of Dimension Data Middle East & Africa (DDMEA) and also the founder and Chairman of Convergence Partners Investments. Professor Ngcaba has actively been involved in public policy development at National, Continental and Global levels through his activities on various bodies including the ITU, ICANN and the African Union. He continues to serve in an advisory capacity to a number of national, regional and international policymaking bodies in the technology and science sectors. His latest venture is the establishment of The Cortex Hub in East London, South Africa which will be competing globally in producing IT entrepreneurs who are able to develop local and global solutions. The hub took in the first contingent in January 2015. He serves on the boards of a number of the Convergence Partners’ portfolio companies including Seacom and New Dawn Satellite Company, Africa’s first private communication satellite service. MONDLI GUNGUBELE EKURHULENI EXECUTIVE MAYOR Mr Mondli Gungubele has extensive experience in the public sector and is a product of the trade union movement. He has a B Com (Law) Degree. He also holds a National Diploma in Nursing and has various certificate courses. Gungubele became actively involved in worker struggles in 1973. In 1982, he became a member of the National Union of Mine Workers (NUM). It was during this time that he sharpened his political and negotiation skills. Mr Gungubele became a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature after the 1994 democratic breakthrough until 1997. In 1997, he took up the challenging and exciting task of Health MEC in the Gauteng Provincial Government, a position he held until 1999. In 1999, he was deployed to lead Gauteng’s Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture agenda. In 2009, Mr Gungubele was deployed to Parliament as an ANC MP. He served as the Whip of the Justice and Constitutional Development Portfolio Committee until he was redeployed to become the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in October 2010. COUNCILLOR KGOSIENTSO RAMOKGOPA EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF TSHWANE Atteridgeville-born Ramokgopa is the Executive Mayor of Tshwane and chairs the ANC in Tshwane. He has an MA in public admin from the University of Pretoria (UP), an MBL from Unisa and is writing his PhD thesis on local government finance at UP. He is the former CEO of the Metropolitan Trading Company and the Joburg Market. Under his leadership, Tshwane was adjudged the 2015 Best Metropolitan Municipality of the Year at the Govan Mbeki Human Settlement Awards and free Wi-Fi has been rolled in the city. DR KENNETH CREAMER EXECUTIVE MAYOR OF TSHWANE Kenneth Creamer has for the past 15 years taught macroeconomics in the School of Economic and Business Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has a PhD in economics and has written a number of academic articles on fiscal and monetary policy in South Africa. He also serves as CEO of Creamer Media. EDWARD CHRISTIAN KIESWETTER CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, ALEXANDRA FORBES Kieswetter’s leadership at Eskom not only contributed the world-class technical performance and complex engineering project achievements at Eskom Power stations during the 1990s and early 2000s, but also won him the title of Boss of the Year in 2000. He has obtained three master’s degrees. He cites the listing of Alexander Forbes on the JSE in 2014 as one of his biggest achievements to date. Kieswetter is a lecturer and governor at the University of Free State and the Da Vinci Institute. He served as deputy chair of the IFAC’s International Accounting Education Standard’s Board until November 2014 and has previously served on the Inter-American Tax Association, representing South Africa on tax matters. Edward is regularly invited to speak at local and international conferences. He currently chairs the UK-based actuarial firm, LCP, in which Alexander Forbes has a 60% investment. JACK VAN DER MERWE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, GAUTRAIN rElzer (Jack) van der Merwe obtained honours BSc degree in civil engineering from the University of Pretoria. In 2012, the premier appointed him as the project leader for the Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis project. He was made an honorary fellow of the South Africa Institution of Civil Engineers in February 2014. He is currently the CEO of the Gautrain Management Agency. KHUMO MOROLO DIVISIONAL EXECUTIVE: AGRO, INFRASTRUCTURE AND NEW INDUSTRIES Morolo holds IT qualifications and postgraduate degrees in engineering. She became the first woman power station manager in Africa and has served as a general manager responsible for a cluster of power stations generating 16% of South Africa’s electricity. She was also a projects general manager responsible for the construction of new power stations, which culminated with the commissioning of the first new power stations in SA since the 1980s, the open cycle gas turbines in Atlantis Cape Town and Mossel Bay. She is currently the divisional executive for the agro, infrastructure and new industries at the Industrial Development Corporation. KOKO MOTLANALO KHUMALO AFRICA RISK MANAGEMENT LEADER – EY (ERNST & YOUNG) Khumalo holds a B.Com (Acc) from the University of Limpopo and B. Compt (Hons) (Acc) from UNISA. He is a qualified Charted Accountant. Khumalo is currently a partner at Ernst & Young (EY). She is the Africa Leader for Risk Management. She serves in the Executive Committee of both South Africa and Africa Region. She reports to the Africa Chief Executive Officer and Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) Risk Management Leader. She is responsible for Enterprise Risk Management, conflict and compliance, independence, risk management in EY – Sub Saharan Africa. She is a former PwC Partner and held various positions at PwC, including being a Managing Partner of Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces. She also served in the PwC Governing Board and the Southern Africa Executive Committee, being the first female to be appointed in this role. LITHA NYHONYHA EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, REGIMENTS CAPITAL BMr Litha Nyhonyha hold Bachelor of Commerce, Certificate Theory in Accountancy from the University of Cape Town, CA (SA). Mr Nyhonyha is a passionate entrepreneur with proven expertise in establishing fast-growing businesses. Born in Langa, Litha studied accounting at the University of Cape Town. He completed his articles with Ernst & Young, serving as senior audit manager before moving into corporate finance. In 1992 he helped establish Thebe Investment Holdings, which became South Africa’s first significant BEE investment holding company. With a string of successful acquisitions under his belt, and having played a major role in growing Thebe’s net asset value from R100 000 to over R500 million, he left in 2001 to lead a restructuring, as well as the building of a financial services portfolio at Worldwide African Investments, now known as Pembani Group. At Worldwide, he successfully turned around NBC holdings – an actuarial consulting and fund administration business, returning it to profitability and regaining its former glory amongst clients. He still remains a director of Worldwide and serves on several listed company boards, including Kumba Iron Ore, Sovereign Foods and AECI. LUCI ABRAHAMS DIRECTOR LINK CENTRE, WITS UNIVERSITY Luci Abrahams is Director of the LINK Centre, a public interest research centre based at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. She is building a research programme in ‘digital knowledge economy studies’ and is knowledgeable with respect to a wide range of relevant themes, including ICT policy, regulation and management; electronic communications law, theory and practice relating to deployment of network infrastructures; broadband, NGN, NRENs and RRENs; spectrum management issues; cloud computing; monitoring, evaluation and analysis of e-services and e-government; e-services in the health sector; and knowledge management with respect to building knowledge-intensive organisations. She has published scholarly articles, public policy papers and case studies on themes including electronic governance, innovation and e-development, universities in the knowledge economy, provincial perspectives on the emerging knowledge economy, and spectrum regulation. In addition to her university work, Luci has had a public service career, the highlights of which include: Advisor to the Premier of the Gauteng Provincial Government on the emerging global city-region, a term as Commissioner with the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC) and a term as Council Member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI). MR JEFFREY THAMSANQA RADEBE MINISTER IN THE PRESIDENCY FOR PLANNING PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND EVALUATION; YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION Minister Radebe holds a B.Juris degree from the University of Zululand obtained in 1976; LLM in International Law from Leipzig University obtained in 1981 and studied at the Lenin International School, Moscow in 1985. Radebe is a Chairperson of the National Conventional Arms Control Committee, Member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991, Member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ANC since 1991, Member of the SACP Central Committee and Head of the ANC Policy Unit amongst others. After the historic democratic elections on 27 April 1994, Mr Radebe served as the Minister of Public Works of the Republic of South Africa from until June 1999. Among other achievements, Mr Radebe received an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters by the Chicago State University in 1996, and Leucospermum flower named Radebe Sunrise was bestowed in him on 23 October 2005. He was awarded Honorary Colonel by the South African Air Force, Mobile Deployment Wing in 2006. PETER MOYO CHAIRMAN OF VODACOM GROUP LIMITED Peter Moyo is Chairman of the Vodacom Group Limited. He is also Group CEO and shareholder of an investment firm, Amabubesi Group. He is also chairman of Willis SA (PTY) LTD., CSC SA (Pty) LTD., Business Against Crime South Africa as well as chairman of the Audit Committee of the Office of the Auditor General. Mr Moyo is a Non-Executive Director of Right to Care and Right to Care Health Services. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Peter served as Non-Executive Director on the board of Transnet Limited, chaired the Board of Trustees of Transnet Second Defined Benefits Fund, and also served on Transnet’s Risk Committee and the Audit Committee, which he also chaired. In addition, he previously served on the board of Telkom. Peter is a former Group CEO of Alexander Forbes and Deputy MD of Old Mutual. Before joining Old Mutual, he was a partner and served on the National Executive of accounting firm Ernst & Young. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and also has the following qualifications under his belt: B.Compt, B. Compt Honours from the University of South Africa (Unisa), Advanced Management Programme from Harvard Business School and a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Witwatersrand. PHILIP HARRISON CHAIR, SOUTH AFRICAN RESEARCH IN DEVELOPMENT PLANNING AND MODELING, UNIVERSITY OF WITWATERSRAND Prof. Philip Harrison is the South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning funded by the National Research Foundation and hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand. He served as a member of the National Planning Commission in the Office of the President from 2010 to 2015. Previously, Prof. Harrison was Executive Director in Development Planning and Urban Management at the City of Johannesburg for 4 years from 2006 to 2010. Prior to that, he held a number of academic positions at the Universities of the Witwatersrand and Natal, including Professor and Chair of Urban and Regional Planning at Wits from 2001 to 2006. He has published widely in the fields of city planning and regional and urban development. His most recent publication is the jointly edited book Changing Space, Changing City: Johannesburg after Apartheid. RAVI NAIDOO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, CITY OF JOHANNESBURG RRavi Naidoo is the Executive Director in Economic Development in the City of Johannesburg. He has worked in the development field for 24 years and holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University. He has previously worked as Director of NALEDI and Group Executive for the DBSA. Some of his notable achievements include his role in pension fund amendment (1995), restructuring the UIF (1996), restructuring the social security system (2000), revised film and TV incentives (2006), convening the national Heath Roadmap (2008), and establishing the national Green Fund (2012). SAM TSIMA PRESIDENT & CHAIRPERSON: COMETSA GOC INTERNATIONAL (PTY) LTD Sam Tsima is an Executive Business Coach, and the President and Chairperson of Cometsa Group of Companies International (Pty) Ltd. He is also Non-Executive Director of South Africa – German Training Services (SAGTS), Project Consultant of Dr Richard Maponya Institute for Skills and Entrepreneurship Development. Sam is a former Programme Manager of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE), Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), University of Pretoria. Prior to joining Cometsa Group in July 2009, Sam was Regional Human Resources Director: Sub-Sahara Africa at Motorola SA (Pty) Ltd where he was reporting into the Middle East Africa Region in Dubai. He is the former Manager of the Centre of Expertise-Group Diversity Management at Sasol Group, responsible for Employment Equity, Global Diversity & Inclusion, Black Economic Empowerment (from HR perspective) and Accelerated Leadership Development Programme (ALDP). Sam also worked and received corporate training in Germany between 1988 to 1992. MOLEFE SETH PHALATSE CHAIRMAN, RITZ PUMPS SOUTH AFRICA During Molefe Seth Phalatse’s work history that spans over 47 years, He gained valuable management experience primarily in the motor industry. Specific areas of responsibility were in production, human resources, corporate affairs, and the sales and marketing divisions. In this period he began his working career as a clerk and worked his way into management, and in the last nine years he served as an executive Director in the main board of BMW South Africa. Phalatse holds a Diploma in Labour Relations from the University of South Africa and Executive Programme in Marketing Management from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. Over the last four decades of his working life he developed excellent strategic and operational skills predominantly in the manufacturing sector. His core managerial competencies are specifically in the marketing, sales and corporate affairs areas SHEILA HENRIETTA VALERIE GALLOWAY Group Chief Executive Officer, Utho Capital (PTY) Ltd BL (Hons) and LLM Sheila is a qualified lawyer with a Masters in Law with over 25 years of experience in investment banking having worked for Merrill Lynch, Standard Chartered Bank, Royal Dominon Bank and ABC Bank. She is a seasoned banker and entrepreneur. Sheila is a founder of the Utho Group of companies which was established in 1999. Utho Capital is a leading infrastructure and PPP specialist firm undertaking major infrastructure projects across SADC. Sheila heads the Africa Infrastructure division of the firm and advices various Governments across the continent. STEVE LEWIS Managing Executive for Retail Transformation, Telkom Steve Lewis is currently the managing executive for Retail Transformation at Telkom. He oversees a number of strategic projects that are aimed at transforming Telkom. In particular he heads up the Customer Experience programme. Steve has performed in a number of roles over a long career in Telkom. These include product development and management, group strategy and technology introduction. Steve holds an M.Sc. Engineering from the University of Natal in South Africa. He is a registered professional engineer. Steve has also acquired a number of business qualifications from the Kellogg School of Management, the University of South Africa and the University of Pretoria. TASHMIA ISMAIL Lecturer, Gordon Institute of Business Science Author and academic Tashmia Ismail leads the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s Inclusive Markets Programme and is a PhD fellow at UNU Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology. She also teaches in the US and the Netherlands. She published a book, “New Markets, New Mindsets”, in 2012 and has written and published multiple articles and case studies. She has served as adviser and expert on several bodies including BOP Global Network, Business Call to Action and Business Fights Poverty and the UNDP advisory board on the report “Realising Africa’s Wealth”.
