Archana Bhargava: United Bank of India has appointed Archana
Bhargava as the new Chairman and Managing Director of the bank.
She had been serving as the executive director of Canara Bank.
Giorgio Napolitano: In an unprecedented development, Italian
President Giorgio Napolitano was re-elected to the country’s highest
office recently after Italy’s Electoral College failed to elect his
successor in five rounds of voting. This is the first time in the
history of the Italian Republic that a President has been elected to
two successive terms.
Enrico Letta: Italy’s President has appointed Enrico Letta as
Premier-designate, asking him to form a coalition government
representing Italy’s main parties to end two months of political
paralysis and put the country back on the path of reform and
growth. He is a longtime centre-left lawmaker and no. 2 Democratic
Party leader.
Nicolas Maduro: Nicolas Maduro has been sworn-in as the new
president of Venezuela.
Hazar Khan Khoso: Justice Hazar Khan Khoso has taken oath as
caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan to hold general election there.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had selected him for the job.
Uhuru Kenyatta: Uhuru Kenyatta has been sworn in as Kenya’s
fourth President recently. Kenyatta, one of Africa’s richest men,
won the Mar 4 polls. The 51-year-old is Kenya’s youngest
President.
PJ Kurien: Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien has been
unanimously elected as the Chairman of the prestigious Asian
Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development
(AFPPD) in Bangkok. He took over from Yasuo Fukuda, the former
Prime Minister of Japan.

CEO Krishnakumar Natarajan has taken over as the chairman of the
National Association of Software and Services Companies
(NASSCOM) for the year 2013-14.
Chitra Ramkrishna: Chitra Ramkrishna has taken over as the
Managing Director and CEO of NSE.
Aruna Bahuguna: Senior IPS officer Aruna Bahuguna has been
appointed as the new Special Director General of the country’s
largest paramilitary force CRPF. This is the first time a woman
officer is occupying the second top post in the hierarchy of the
force.
Narasimhan Ravi: The director of Kasturi and Sons Limited as
well as the former Editor of The Hindu was unanimously elected as
the president of Editors Guild of India recently.

Pervez Musharraf: Pakistan’s former military ruler Pervez
Musharraf was arrested recently and lodged in the police
headquarters, ahead of his trial by an anti-terrorism court.
Baba Kalyani: Baba Kalyani, chairman and managing director,
Bharat Forge Limited, has been nominated by the government to be
the chairman of the India-Japan Business Leader’s Forum
(IJBLF). The forum will leverage the developing trade and investment
between the two countries for greater cooperation between their
businesses.
Sudipto Sen: The chairman of the Saradha chit fund company,
which has allegedly defrauded thousands of depositors, was arrested
along with two other company officials in Kashmir Valley.
Raj K Aggarwal: Raj K Aggarwal, an Anglo-Indian pharmacist and
businessman, has been commissioned as the first Indian diplomat
in Wales at a special ceremony. India’s high commissioner to the
UK, Dr Jaimini Bhagwati presented the Commission of
Appointment as honorary consul of India in Wales at a function
held at the India House recently.
Prahlad Bramhachari: Noted Baul and folk singer Prahlad
Bramhachari died recently at the age of 73. Prahlad Bramhachari
received various awards for his contribution to popularise Bengali
folk and Baul songs.
Devanand Konwar: In Tripura, Devanand Konwar has been sworn
in as the new Governor. The chief Justice of Tripura High Court
administered him the oath of office. Devanand Konwar was earlier
the Governor of Bihar.
Rajan Bharti Mittal: Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman and
Managing Director Rajan Bharti Mittal has been appointed the
President of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) India
at the conclusion of 82nd Annual General Meeting of ICC India.
ICC India is the Indian affiliate of the Paris-based ICC, the world
business organisation with presence in over 90 countries.
