Best of the Berkshires
Best of the Berkshires Remember the Bekshires in 1997? Bob Dylan and Ani DiFranco were playing Tanglewood; cell phones worked in two square feet of the county; at Tripod, in the old cable mill building, a group of Williams alums were generating the closest thing to Facebook that then existed — and Best of the Berkshires came into the light. Two hundred readers responded to our first poll. Fifteen years later, in this contest alone, you have sent in 17,334 ballots. You cut them out of spring Eagle newspapers and filled in their answers by hand, and we collected them by the boxful — one per reader. Here, then, are the places that earned the most votes, from the people who took the time to tell us what they enjoy. If you are on this list, we congratulate you heartily. And if you are not, we hope you will get in touch — tell us about what you do — so that Congratulations 2012 Raffle Winners! FIRST PRIZE- Winner of $250 Valerie Schwarz of North Adams SECOND PRIZE– Winner of $150 Peter Barosso of Pittsfield Eagle file THIRD PRIZE– Winner of $100 Best of the Berkshires salutes our readers’ poll winners! we and our readers can find you. So thank you to every reader who took the time to answer — thank you to the Eagle ad staff for coordinating the contest — thank you (with garlands of roses) to Emerald Lapier from the Transcript, who took the time to count the respons- es — and thank you to everyone who takes the risk, and works the long hours, to fill this county with all the vintage glass and drill bits, riding stables and roofers, cafés and crafts and all the rest that make “the best” so hard to choose. — Kate Abbott, Berkshires Week Christopher & Hayden Gillooly of North Adams * Winners were entered into a raffle for participation in the Best of the Berkshires contest.
