If I had to describe the time I have worked and lived at GLA in one word I would say - BLESSED! I have been beyond blessed to have been a part of the God's Littlest Angels staff here in Haiti for the past three and a half years. I am moving back to Wisconsin to finish the master's of social work degree that I started before moving to Haiti in June 2010. There is no doubt that Haiti and GLA will forever be a part of my life and my testimony. Serving as the Update Coordinator has given me the privilege of being a part of each child's life by documenting their growth and development to share with forever families. It has been an honor to be a small part of each adoption journey throughout my time here. Organizing and coordinating the school sponsorship program has also been a very fulfilling part of my job that I have learned so much from. I would like to extend a giant THANK YOU to everyone I have worked with and met during my time at GLA. Each co-worker, family, volunteer, and child has blessed my life in a specific way and for that I am forever grateful.! (A Word from Dixie: We are so sad for Susie to leave GLA and return to the States. We do not want her to go! But we are so very thankful that God sent her to GLA just when we needed her most! Susie has reorganized the sponsorship program and made it into a program we can be proud of! Thank you Susie for your sacrifice and We Welcome our New Update Coordinator, Tiffany Akeo! ! HI! My name is Tiffany Akeo and I am beyond excited that God has chosen to bring me here to serve at GLA! I joined the GLA family this past August, as the Update Coordinator. I have loved every minute of capturing the lives of these little angels on camera, getting to know their personalities, and coordinating the school sponsorship program. I am from Michigan, and have a Master's Degree in Social Work. I look forward to being in touch with you as adoptive families, and school sponsorship program sponsors! ! (A Word from Dixie: The mission is a place of good-byes and hellos. With the sadness of telling Susie good-bye, we have had the joy of getting to meet and know Tiffany. God is so good that He sends people our way who loves the children and the work we are doing at GLA. Please join us in praying for Tiffany and Susie as they start new chapters in their lives.)! God’s Ways are so PERFECT! He knows our needs before we even ask! “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” - Luke 2:14 NIV! ! USA Adoption News! !The new adoption law should be in effect by the time this newsletter is sent. We have waited about 6 years since Haiti started talking about writing a new adoption law. With the new law, Haitian Social Services has also developed new policies of how children will be matched with families. Haitian Social Services, along with the creches and orphanage directors, will decide what proposals to make. We feel very positive about the changes and how in the long run they are best for the children and adoptions in Haiti.! ! The new law has taken out the restriction on the number of children a family can have and still be able to adopt. Before this law, a family had to have special permission from the office of the President before they were allowed to adopt. That permission will no longer be needed. ! ! The law says: A couple who have been married at least 5 years and at least one of the couple are 30 years old can adopt. Neither of the couple can be over 50 years old at the time of matching. Singles at least 35 years old can adopt. Priority matching will be given to married couples. Once a match is given, the couple/single must come to Haiti for 2 weeks for a bonding period with their child.! ! The Toddler Houses are mainly finished except for a few items that need to be done such as windows put in and some finish work in the bathrooms.! !Our Haitian mason team has worked hard to get the large cistern finished and the school house for the children built. I said it almost looks like a mini Fort Jacques in our own yard! There will be a second story put on the school but it will be made out of treated wood and a team of carpenters will come to raise the walls in February 2014. ! ! Help us reach our goal of moving the Toddler House to ! Fort Jacques by the summer of 2014 by giving a donation to the building fund!
