We suggest that you find time during your cruise to spend at least one night at the idyllic Ibo Island Lodge (on this itinerary just in case). 7 Night Luxury Mozambique Yacht Safari (Including St Lazarus Banks ) Day 1: Ibo to Matemo. After a filling breakfast at Ibo Island Lodge, guests board. Listen to the necessaryon-board yacht and safety briefing, then set sail north for about 90 minutes to the islands of Matemo and Rolas. We like to throw a few lures during this part of the sailing safari to see if we can hook a Big One for our main course for the evening dinner! We also like to stop for a while on the way if the weather is good to enjoy the secret sandbank beach between Ibo Island and Matemo. Divers and snorkelers can explore the interesting wreck there. Lunch at Matemo Island if all goes according to plan. This beautiful island remains undeveloped except for the lodge on the northern point (closed as of April . go ashore and explore the island. Day 2: Mogundula. After a wonderful morning spent at Matemo, we then set sail to cover the 9 NM to the privately-owned Mogundula Island in about 2-3 hours. This small, uninhabited island is fringed by coral reefs and boasts rich bird life. Turtles are often found nesting on one beach there during the breeding season. Laze away the day on the leeward side of the island in the sheltered lagoon where you can enjoy one of the best beaches in the Archipelago. Guests are welcome to explore the island. Gather around the beach fire in the evening and enjoy sun downers and a traditional African beach braai (BBQ). Soak up another Stay the night here. Our Lagoon 52 luxury yacht will anchor off shore but guests can feel free to spend the rest of the day trying out the various water sports and activities available, or Day 3: Medjumbe Island. After a delicious fresh breakfast, we will set sail for our next destination, Medjumbe Island, 14 NM north and about a 2-3 hour sail. We will stop at the beautiful bay and beaches of Pangane. Jump off your luxury yacht and enjoy as many water sports and activities as you want to. From Pangane, we head straight to Medjumbe Island, fishing rods manned in case we get something fresh for dinner. Arrive at Medjumbe, a small tropical desert and explore maybe sip a cocktail at the luxury night here. We will leave in the dead of night, at 2am, for Metundo, 40 NM and 6 - 7hours away. Get there in time for a fresh breakfast. Day 4: 50 NM Medjumbe Island to St Lazarus Banks. around Medjumbe and its smaller sister island Dejumbe! In the evening after dinner we will set sail for St Lazarus Banks and cruise overnight to this amazing landmark of the Quirimbas. We want to be at the banks before sunrise. At this prime offshore fishing destination, we will spend all day fishing and diving, St Lazarus Banks. Day 6: St Lazarus Banks. Perhaps that elusive fish you never caught yesterday will allow you to catch it today so spend this day fishing and fishing again! Hooking a game fish is set off, sails in the wind, back to Matemo Island, taking about 8 hours, during the dead of night. Overnight: Soft sail to Matemo Island Day 7: 50 NM St Lazarus Banks to Matemo Island. With an early arrival at Matemo, you will have time to explore the island further, to fish off the shore and to swim and even dive. For those who are now addicted to hooking huge game fish, there is the opportunity to head back to St Lazarus Banks for the day. Spend your last night on board your luxury yacht at Matemo Island. Overnight: Matemo Island. Day 8: 8 NM Matemo to Ibo Island. This is an early start, before breakfast we set sail for the last 8NM back to Ibo Island. Enjoy breakfast on board the moving yacht, looking for marine life as you tuck into fresh food. Dock at Ibo by 9 am, just Pemba. End of cruise. It is important to note that this example itinerary can be reversed: first head out to St Lazarus Banks then work all the way down via Medjumbe and back to Ibo, depending on the weather of course. All safaris are dependent on the weather at the time and on the personal desires of the clients chosen activities and interests. We recommend that you spend your first night at Ibo Island Lodge for a taste of luxury and awesome service. Day 1: 8 NM cruise Ibo to Matemo. Embark after a fresh breakfast at Ibo. Listen to an on-board yacht and safety briefing before setting sail northwards, taking about 90 minutes to reach the islands of Matemo and Rolas. As we cruise, we encourage guests to throw a line to try and catch some fresh all tide and weather dependent. Some guests might like to dive and snorkel the interesting wreck there. We hope to arrive at Matemo Island for lunch. This beautiful, undeveloped bit of floating land is also home to a small fishing village and a lodge (closed as of April 2015). Overnight: Matemo or Rolas Island. Day 2: 9 NM cruise Matemo to Mogundula. Enjoy a glorious morning on and around Matemo having fun in the sun, then head north for about 9 NM to the privately-owned Mogundula Island. This tiny, uninhabited island is fringed by coral reefs and hosts a huge variety of bird life. With luck you will see the turtles nesting in the sand during breeding season. Relax all day on the hidden lagoon and stunning beach on the leeward side of the island. Take part in some of the activities such as snorkelling and walking around the island. Be back by evening for the fire on the beach sundowners, a traditional BBQ and a spectacular sunset what could be more romantic than that? Overnight: Mogundula Island. Day 3: 14 NM Mogundula to Medjumbe Island. Sailing the 14 NM to Medjumbe Island will take about 2-3 hours so we will leave after a hearty breakfast and find our way north, stopping to explore the magnificent bay and beaches of Pangane. Try a new water sport today before the luxury yacht cruises over flat azure waters to Medjumbe Island guests are again encouraged to throw a line to catch fresh fish for dinner. When we arrive at Medjumbe you will enjoy lunch and have the entire afternoon to explore the island, fish, dive and snorkel. If you feel like it, sip a cocktail at the beach bar of the luxury island resort or try some of the island activities. Overnight: Medjumbe Island. Day 4: Metundo Island. What a privilege to be able to spend an entire day discovering the small islands and coral reefs around Vamizi Island! Get ready to set sail after a fresh seafood dinner, sailing south the 60 NM to Macaloe Island, taking about 8 hours through the night. Overnight: Cruise to Macaloe Island. Day 7: Macaloe and Rolas Island. Arriving sometime in the morning at Macaloe, guests have time to enjoy a full day in this tropical paradise, relaxing, swimming, walking, diving and fishing. We need two hours to cruise the 10 NM to Rolas Island before sunset so we aim to leave Macaloe Island late afternoon. Spend your last night on board your luxury floating home at Rolas Island.
