He introduced a substantially enhanced and varied menu, much to the satisfaction of the students and staff. Though produce and dairy prices have increased 25% this year, he has kept the prices the same as last year. The cafeteria caters to some two dozen vegans (who knew?), athlete-sized appetites, and the health conscious. Salads disappear at a rate of 100-150 a day, and come in all ranges: $3.00 to $5.00. Vazzy says lunches average from $3.00 to $6.00, with most lunches running $5.00, including the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. This year, the cafeteria will be offering “half-portions” for the calorie and cash conscious. They will also be bundling some lunches for economy sake, but quality food, variety, and students first are the goals. Helping Heroes. Mr Rodgers, Theology, has formed a new club activity aimed at supporting alumni currently serving in Southwest Asia. The students will be collecting non-perishables (energy bars, granola bars, beef jerky, etc.), personal care items, and miscellaneous goods (newspaper clippings from back home, sports magazines, Frisbees, footballs, etc.) and will send them along to military personnel and their families. Helping Heroes will work in conjunction with the ‘Letters of Love’ club in writing letters to parents and family members of alumni serving in Southwest Asia. Their first assignment is to send packages to Ryan Guere (alumnus of St Joe’s) and his military unit. His unit is currently serving in Kunar, Afghanistan, and consists of four platoons of about 30-35 soldiers in each. First meeting is Thursday in room 308 after school. Let us know of any alums you know of in the region.
